This was such a solid steak sandwich! As a steak lover, I loved the simplicity of this sandwich because you could really just enjoy the meat. The original steak comes with a good amount of chimichurri sauce and a generous serving of steak and is served on a fluffy bread. While the sauce was too salty for my taste, it complemented the meat and bread nicely. The fries are delicious as well - a perfect balance between crispy and fluffy, which I like. Again, a little too salty, but I had no problem finishing them. The place itself is very small and only has tables outside. Since it was cold, we sat inside on a little bench-like ledge that they have, and the employees kindly let us stay and eat there for as long as we'd like. Honestly, I'd be back. I've had their steak sandwich before, and when I heard BEAR added a cheeseburger and golden fries to the menu, I knew I had to check it out. The shop itself is small, with only a bench outside if you want to sit and enjoy your food on the spot, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most popular spots in the city. They have a simple menu featuring just a few items, and the staff are a friendly bunch! There usually not a huge line as they have online orders and also once you are paid, you will be waiting outside the shop and the food will be brought out to you with a smile! The cheeseburger was incredible. The medium-rare chuck patty was so juicy and thick, packed with flavour in every bite. I'm not usually a fan of fries, but their golden fries? Crispy and fried in beef fat--they were so good I couldn't stop eating them! I even grabbed an extra burger to bring home to my mom, and she loved it just as much as I did. Had to come here after seeing some of the gram pics. Medium rare beef, lots and lots of beef. This is a small shop for pickup only and it will take approx 10 minutes for your sandwich to be ready. There are only two options on their menu, so you know they've perfected the two items. I came here on a Wednesday around noon, which is about the time that they open shop. Already, there was a gentleman waiting outside the shop for his order as well as one inside. After placing my order, a group of 3 then two other gentlemen came - needless to say, this place gets very busy, especially with its small square footage. This spot has no dine-in seating, so it is strictly takeout which you can order via walk-in or their online ordering system. Their menu is very small, with their mains being their original steak sandwich and another which is with pork shoulder. Otherwise, they serve fries (which was unavailable today due to their fryer being broken and needing to be replaced) as well as pop (in glass bottles) and today, a limited selection of Craig's cookies! I ordered their original steak which is the item I had been seeing on instagram, the sole item that lured me here. Their sandwich is kept super simple like their menu, with their medium rare flank steak (cooked to perfection, very juicy and tender), their housemade chimichurri (which was flavorful and had the most subtle kick to it), on a Papo Seco (which I learned today is a Portuguese roll, so soft!) I read some reviews saying that they felt it wasn't salty enough and I beg to differ. All in all, the flavor profile was amazing. My one star deduction is really based on $18 being a bit steep for the size of the sandwich itself. Otherwise, the service was also great and friendly. I love their cute logo, and it appears they sell merch, t-shirts for $25 which is super cute too. The online algorithm knows that well, so it bombarded with content by BEAR Steak Sandwich since months ago on TikTok, Instagram, etc. I finally had the chance to visit it today (Jan 27, 2024); the experience was mediocre. I had the steak sandwich and an order of fries. I got to say I was expecting a lot more from the steak since it's their speciality. While the cut was great, I was not too fond of how it was cooked. When I have a nice steak, I expect a juicy, rare interior and a nice crust outside. BEAR's steak sandwich did not deliver as it was a bit overcooked to my liking (medium instead of medium rare/rare). The chimichurri had a nice kick to it, but something else was lacking and made the flavour profile underwhelming. I was talking to another patron, and they told me the BEAR steak sandwich could have used a bit of salt. With an additional slice of provolone, it may just work. The fries, on the other hand, were brilliant and somehow redeemed the steak. It was perfectly fried in tallow, so every fries in the box got that excellent flavour and crips. It would have made a perfect poutine. Last but not least, it's also overpriced (I paid almost 30 dollars for a sandwich and the fries). I've followed them on IG before they had a storefront to see if I could try to get my hands on one of their delicious looking steak sandwiches. Finally, after some time they opened a storefront in Little Italy. I tried going a week or two after they opened but the lineup (even before 12pm!) was too much for me. Now, they have online pre-ordering (via Ambassador) which saves the hassle of lining up or waiting (thank goodness!). I was able to try out Bear Steak Sandwiches on a Wed for lunch. I preordered a steak sandwich for pick up the morning of. Upon arriving at the store, I did have to wait a few min for my order to be wrapped up. There were other people who were waiting (assuming they had ordered in person) for their food. Since the store is so small it is best to preorder to avoid lines or long waits! As for the steak sandwich, I had to take a bite of this delicious creation as I found a park bench a few blocks down the street. Despite it being windy and cold I took a bite of the sandwich and was met with an explosion of flavours from the flank steak (which was cooked to perfection) and the chimichurri sauce (great spice and garlic flavours!) which was held together by the Portuguese roll. The steak juices were absorbed by the bread and the steak was tender and juicy. Great sandwich but I definitely could not finish it all for lunch. Service was friendly during my short time at the store, staff greeted me and also asked for my name as I had preordered. Overall, friendly service and a great spot for steak sandwiches. Great place for a good sandwich! It's a small shop and it's take out only. When we went the fryer was down so we couldn't order fries ...which I heard from a friend are also good. We came and ordered one of each sandwich (don't worry lol it's only really 2 options- roast pork or steak) both were great! Meat was tender and moist. Bread was good to absorb. The hype is real and Bear Steak Sandwiches is the place to go. It started as a backyard pop up during Covid, making steak sandwiches to friends and family. People started clamoring for more and the once a week endeavor was not enough to appease them. They were finally able to get a physical location and it has been busy ever since. We managed to visit on NYE right after they opened around noon and there was no lineup. We bought the Original Steak Sandwich and the Roast Pork Sandwich. Those are the only two sandwiches that they offer. If you have to choose, go with their steak sandwich. It's not cheap but the portions of the steak and the chimichurri sauce makes it worthwhile. I liked the Roast Pork but I found it a bit underwhelming and the pork dried. Unfortunately, the fryer was out of service so I couldn't get their fries. The gentleman tending the order was very friendly and pleasant. The place is really small with no available seating area inside. There's a bench right outside at the front of the store that you can sit and eat. There are a few Green P and paid street parking available but it's easier to get there via public transit. read more

I was in the Chinatown neighbourhood when I realized that - with a little coordination, I could be one streetcar ride away from the Bear Steak Sandwiches spot - a place I'd bookmarked a few months back since it blew up on social media. There are only two regular items on the main sandwich menu - steak or roasted pork, and in my haste to secure the steak sandwich - I unfortunately completely forgot to ask about the special whoops. When all was said and done, I picked up my CAD18 steak sandwich takeout style and eagerly waited for my life to be transformed the entire commute home. Thankfully, Bear Steak Sandwiches did not disappoint. Was the steak sandwich a little expensive, especially in this economy? 100%. Was it still tasty? Absolutely. The steak was honestly better than steaks I've had in fancier sit-down restaurants - well-textured with none of that veiny/chewy nonsense you sometimes encounter with steak, and still with a good amount of satisfying bite. The chimichurri sauce - as other reviews have mentioned - was packed with spice and flavour. The sandwich was the perfect receptacle for the meat - on its own it probably would have been pretty unmemorable. BUT, as a receptacle for the juicy steak and flavourful chimichurri sauce - the bun helped balance the entire profile out. I don't know if I'd deliberately go out of my way to get the sandwich again, but if I'm ever in the area, I'd be more than happy to go back and try a few more things off the menu. read more

We saw this on Instagram and had to give his place a try. Came by on a Saturday afternoon and there was quite a bit of people waiting outside likely for their food. The steak sandwich is $18-$19 I believe and came medium cooked, tender with chimichurri sauce on top on a baguette like bun. - the steak was cooked nicely and was really good but the portion of the sandwich is probably like 6 inches. The pork shoulder with rapini and provolone cheese is $16 and comes with a jus to dip. I can see why this one had it b/c it needs to have some of the beef flavour juice on the sandwich. The pork is tender, but a bit dry and the rapini had a neutral taste and the provolone cheese isn't melted or anything. Overall, the steak was better!
