Both always taste fresh and flavorful. Comes with a bag of tortilla chips. Perfect for a light snack or lunch. Even better when you take it over to the beach literally across the street. I love checking out different poke spots. Located inside Pacific City, this place offers a nice view of the beach. There's patio seating that overlooks the ocean and additional seating right outside of the restaurant in the food hall. The ordering process is simple; if you order a poke bowl, you would fill out a piece of paper indicating your base, choice of poke, toppings, and sauce, and you hand it to the cashier. They have a display of the fish that they offer which helps if you are deciding what to choose. Service is friendly and efficient. I ordered a poke bowl with white rice, 1/4 lb of salmon, 4 toppings (crunchy chili garlic, furikake, pickled ginger, and seaweed salad), and Tommy sauce. The rice was cooked fine and wasn't mushy. However, I think that the salmon was a bit mushy and not as fresh as I hoped. 1/4 lb of salmon is pretty generous though and was a good amount of fish. The toppings were fresh--I just wished that I hadn't gotten the crunchy chili garlic. Wasn't bad, but didn't elevate my poke bowl how I wanted. Also wished that I could have chosen more toppings. The Tommy sauce is their special sauce that's like mayo and is quite flavorful. I think the tuna was around $22/lb, my order came out to be $11. The poke marinade has good flavors of chili, sesame oil, and scallions. We happened upon this place by accident. It's inside a good court but tucked away. It was actually really good! And you get a view of the beach so can't beat that. I had a salmon sandwich, which in my opinion, it was one of the best I've ever had. My husband got a wahoo fish plate and it was very good too. I told my boyfriend I wanted seafood on our way out of the land of beaches and he googled and found Bear Flag. Did I hate his choice? Not really. Will I trust him to choose again? Possibly. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lobster roll, which was what I was actually craving, but I ordered some poke, chowder, and a plate of swordfish. Overall, I felt "meh" about the whole experience. I tempered my disappointment at the lack of lobster (not their fault!) but nothing really stood out. The fish had a bit too fishy of a flavor. The chowder was mostly cream and potato. The salad was limp. The cocktail was fire though, definitely a good place to enjoy the view and sip by the fireside. Dogs ARE allowed, just on the patio, so our pooch enjoyed lapping up some water while we ate our meal that was pretty okay but nothing super great. The good: Friendly service ready for suggestions. Love this Bear Flag location. It's super chill and you can basically take your time deciding what you want to order. There are plenty of outdoor seatings to choose from, tables or fireside or bench. Inside it a bit smaller with bar sitting at the bar or the sushi bar, and just counter seatings. We got two draft beer, some tacos, and salmon/ahi poke. They are def pricey but due to the location, it wasn't a surprise. Food quality was good and I love their fish tacos, especially because it's so healthy while being delicious. Their Bear Flag fish taco is panko crust and it's very light panko and tasted like it was also grilled and not deep fried. Their grilled salmon taco is my favorite. Def recommend! read more

Like, "never touched the insides of a freezer" fresh. The texture was so tender and bouncy it practically flirted with me. It was well marinated but was missing a lil "umph." My only note would be to add a little lemon, that would've taken it from great to gourmet. The vibe was casual with a legit ocean view. Think surfers and hang tens. The poke here was decent and there's a decent amount of seating right along PCH which is nice. Bear flag is at the end of Pacific City where the food court is and is kind of tucked in the corner. Service was pretty quick despite being crowded and they validate for the Pacific City parking. We got 1 1/2 pounds of fish total for 2 people which was a little too much, especially considering it came with 3 bags of tortilla chips (1 for each 1/2 pound). How disappointing that I feel the quality of the fish has gone down for poke at this place. Unfortunately the fish doesn't taste fresh, and the way it's prepared lacked flavor. I remember when it used to be really great. Their chips and guacamole was okay. But I don't think I'll be back anymore for poke at Bear Flag. The ordering area can be chaotic and confusing. People are standing to place orders by writing on the paper what they want, but there isn't really a flow to the madness. The service was standard in that food was delivered by staff. I feel the place gets busy that not much cleaning can really get done in the outdoor seating area. The place can get busy and overwhelming with how seating is arranged as well.
