Bear Flag in Pacific city Huntington Beach is a hidden gem of a location. The view speaks for itself - the patio lines PCH with the amazing view of the ocean- I recommend timing the visit with the sunset and you won't regret it. The patio is also dog friendly- I took my 5 month old puppy (we're learning manners) and it was perfect. The sunset / golden hour visit just so happened to coincide with happy hour. I can officially recommend the house margarita (10/10) and fish tacos. Round it out with some calamari and you have yourself a perfect evening! For the non fish loving friend they do have chips and guacamole (Thank you Spenser!). I am already planning my next visit! read more

Decor with all kinds of fish, sharks, & surf boards, not only was it fitting for H.B., but we knew the seafood was going to hit. So naturally, we had to get a little of this and a little of that, and of course we all shared with each other. A poké bowl with tuna, a tempura fried sushi roll and you know we got a panko crusted fish taco with a side of white rice & black beans. Food is ordered at the counter, then you seat yourself. And because it was a beautiful day outside, we grabbed a table in their covered patio on the back deck and enjoyed the view until our food arrived. Ordered their peruvian ceviche, clam chowder, artichoke, and fish tacos for a late lunch. Everything was very delicious, giving you different textures and flavors. The ceviche was fresh, light, and paired perfectly with their tortilla chips. It didnt rely on lime only for flavor, and had a good mix of red onion, bell pepper, cucumber, and cilantro- without things overpowering. The clam chowder has a less intense heartiness, when compared to heavier chowders (could be less flour or potatoes which make soup thicker). I thought it was perfect and cohesive with their menu! The artichoke is salted, and the char added a nice smokiness with each bite. The fish tacos were also very refreshing, they were lightly seasoned and paired so well with the yummy pico de gallo The space overall is very beautiful and compliments the view of the beach nicely. Location is amazing it looks right out onto the water. I was with a friend staying at the hunting beach Hyatt so we were able to walk but it did look like parking could be tricky. It's confusing with the bar. The bartender was not friendly at all and was actually kind of rude but when we went to the counter to order they were very kind. If you have out of town guests or are already by the beach I would recommend stopping in for a quick bite. read more

Both always taste fresh and flavorful. Comes with a bag of tortilla chips. Perfect for a light snack or lunch. Even better when you take it over to the beach literally across the street. Makes for such a perfect beach day. Other items on the menu include clam chowder, tacos, burritos, sandwiches and seafood platters. I love checking out different poke spots. Located inside Pacific City, this place offers a nice view of the beach. There's patio seating that overlooks the ocean and additional seating right outside of the restaurant in the food hall. The ordering process is simple; if you order a poke bowl, you would fill out a piece of paper indicating your base, choice of poke, toppings, and sauce, and you hand it to the cashier. They have a display of the fish that they offer which helps if you are deciding what to choose. Service is friendly and efficient. I ordered a poke bowl with white rice, 1/4 lb of salmon, 4 toppings (crunchy chili garlic, furikake, pickled ginger, and seaweed salad), and Tommy sauce. The rice was cooked fine and wasn't mushy. However, I think that the salmon was a bit mushy and not as fresh as I hoped. 1/4 lb of salmon is pretty generous though and was a good amount of fish. The toppings were fresh--I just wished that I hadn't gotten the crunchy chili garlic. Wasn't bad, but didn't elevate my poke bowl how I wanted. Also wished that I could have chosen more toppings. The Tommy sauce is their special sauce that's like mayo and is quite flavorful. The poke bowl is on the pricier end, so I probably wouldn't get that if I were to come back but would probably try a burrito instead. read more

We love Bear Flag!! Even my little nephew now asks for their poki. We usually get their ahi or salmon poki. Always fresh. I just find it odd sometimes they charge you before they weigh it since it's by weight. They also have changed their chips which I preferred the old ones. However, always fresh and tasty. I've loved Bear Flag for years! I typically go to their Newport spot but recently tried out the HB location in the Pacific City mall. I got a 1/2 lb to-go order of the tuna poke which came with a free bag of tortilla chips. For the quality of fish, it's not a bad deal. I think the tuna was around $22/lb, my order came out to be $11. The poke marinade has good flavors of chili, sesame oil, and scallions. The line moves quickly, and the workers are very no-nonsense lol. It's a great meal to take to the park for a picnic! Next time, I'd love to eat at the restaurant for the oceanside view :) read more

Love this Bear Flag location. It's super chill and you can basically take your time deciding what you want to order. There are plenty of outdoor seatings to choose from, tables or fireside or bench. Inside it a bit smaller with bar sitting at the bar or the sushi bar, and just counter seatings. We got two draft beer, some tacos, and salmon/ahi poke. They are def pricey but due to the location, it wasn't a surprise. Food quality was good and I love their fish tacos, especially because it's so healthy while being delicious. I told my boyfriend I wanted seafood on our way out of the land of beaches and he googled and found Bear Flag. Did I hate his choice? Not really. Will I trust him to choose again? Possibly.
