One of the sweetest cat cafes I've ever been to!!! Nearly all of the cats are super friendly. You are alerted in the instructions that the cats with collars tend to swipe, but their aggression seems to be towards their fellow cats. Just don't get caught in the cross fire! Aside from that, I don't think I've ever been to a cat cafe where the cats almost immediately warm up to you They just want some lovin' and attention. My boyfriend and I loved our time here. I fell in love with Meow Meow (as pictured here) and Skywalker seemed to favor my partner the most It was so sweet! The merch they have the front is quite adorable too! The only complaint is that despite being kept in the other room, the smell from the litter boxes is pretty potent. I have a cat at home and I understand it can be hard to upkeep... let alone the probably the 10+ cats they have here. But the smell was the only downside to our visit! Such a cute and fun cat cafe! My partner and I stumbled upon this little cat cafe when walking around downtown Beacon. We were surprised by the prices of the lattes since the sizes are very generous (compared to the city), and not to mention, very tasty as well! There are about one dozen cats housed in the room next door with glass windows so you can watch them if you don't want to pay to play with them. I love that all the cats are adoptable, and that they have a safe and clean space to roam. Definitely come and support the furry little animals and small business! read more

Save your time and money. I brought my mom here for her birthday and we were so excited, only to leave completely disappointed. We booked an hour, but due to getting caught in a downpour and then struggling to find parking, we arrived late and only had 30 minutes left. The two girls at the front desk were immediately rude, even after we explained the situation. The coffee was terrible, the cats barely interacted, and as soon as our time was up, we were told to leave. I politely mentioned that my mom was still in the restroom, and instead of showing patience, they responded rudely and told me I still needed to step outside, despite the next group not even being in the room yet. When I asked if we could at least be refunded for the half hour we didn't get, they dismissively said no. The whole experience was unpleasant, unwelcoming, and not worth the price. I've been to both locations multiple times, and always have a good experience. However during my most recent visit to the New Paltz location, there were two young children, one of which was bothering a few cats, and ended up getting scratched. The child was screaming at the top of her lungs, it really was ear piercing. All of the cats and other patrons were quite tense. One of the employees came in, I thought to tell the parent to remove the kid from the room, but instead she consoles the kid and then thanks her for being "so brave" and gives her a sticker. There should be some age limit or behavior restriction for the guests and cats sake. Cute cat cafe with a good number of well socialized cats. It's $7 for 30 min of kitty time, you can buy beverages at the counter and take them into the cat area, just have to wash hands upon entry and follow their list of rules in regards to interactions with the cats. Cats! They had 9 cats of varying ages and breeds on the Saturday afternoon I was there. They were mostly sleeping at the time, but were still so cute! There were a few just starting to nod off that still let us pet them, once they fell asleep it was nice to admire them from close by. The cat cafe can be rented out in advance by the hour for groups. When I was there a group came in with a pre-booking. The staff at the counter was very friendly and informed me of the shortened time available to spend with the cats--less than the 30 min slot--and also slightly discounted the rate to accommodate. I went in and she said $7.50 for half an hour. I left because I thought it's not for me I'm doing it. It's for them. I mean petting the cats is for the good of the cats and the gal at the desk didn't tell me why I should pay 750 so I left as I say then I went back and I said "what's the $7.50 for?" And she said "that's to pet the cats for half an hour." I said well I don't wanna stay for half an hour. What if I give you a five dollar donation and stay for five minutes and she said no. so as I was leaving I said that's really stupid, I want to make a donation. and she said "bitch" .... so I don't think those poor cats are gonna be getting as much attention as they might She had a really bad attitude and was nasty given the slightest opportunity Just because I disagreed with her. read more

I mean, what's better than cats and coffee? What a memorable place to visit in Beacon, NY. When you walk into this small cafe, you can order your coffee(there are plenty of options). Then you can book either 30 minutes or 60 minute sessions in the little cat playground area where you can also sip on your coffee and pet cats. When we visited we were able to get in without a reservation, but make a reservation online if you want to be safe. There was about 10 cats when we visited. It's awesome seeing all the different personalities. The employee did a great job of introducing each one and giving us some info on each. What can i say? My two babies are a gift from Beans! Jess, the owner, is amazing. She is knowledgeable from coffee to cats! I always go to beans when I'm in beacon for a coffee!! I also have donated cat treats /food/toys here (asking first to make sure it's okay of course). I love the vibe and the fun of playing with cats! I suggest to rent the space as opposed to being a walk in, as there could be a wait. I also suggest bringing quarters for treats!! And most importantly all these cats are up for adoption! Being an adopter I've worked with Stacy from HVARS (where the cats are first brought after rescue and vetted) and she is just as amazing. She answers any and all questions/concerns about your new fur baby. This is a business based on playing with cats and drinking coffee. I've seen reviews here saying go to the shelter to play with cats for free.. this is a profitable, woman owned and local business. It is honestly my dream to open up a cat cafe and I was so happy to have stumbled upon Beans during a day trip to Beacon. When I saw their storefront as we were driving down Main Street I screamed "cat cafe!" and my husband couldn't park the car fast enough. There was plenty of street parking at around 10AM on a Sunday. I was glad that walk-ins were accepted as we didn't have a reservation. We started by ordering drinks and food - my pumpkin chai latte was so yummy! It was a very reasonable $7 per person to spend 30 minutes with the kitties and the time goes really fast! We were let into the cat room by the staff and were asked to wash our hands and follow the rules. The main rule, as with any cat cafe I've been to, was do not pick up the cats. The cats themselves are so fun and sweet. They each have such personality - some of them really wanted to play and snuggle while others were content to snooze the entire time we were there. We spent a lot of time with Pixie, who likes to try and steal your food, Ninja, who was very playful, and Brownie, who seemed to be the youngest kitten in the cafe and really stole the show. Brownie was very snuggly and loved getting our attention. I'm not sure if we maybe missed the signage somewhere but we weren't aware that the cats were available for adoption until the very end when we were leaving and one of the employees told us that the rest of Brownie's litter had all been adopted out. I know that this is the goal of most cat cafes but wasn't sure if this was a resident cat situation. In our case I'm kind of glad we didn't know as we might have seriously considered taking Brownie home with us. Broke my heart a little when we left and Brownie was sat at the window watching us leave, but we already have two cats and aren't ready for another. I'm confident Brownie will find a home quickly and then the other cats will have their chance to shine. All of this to say, maybe Beans can make the information about adoption more prevalent! The cat room itself is narrow but the cats all seem happy and well cared for. There are plenty of high shelves and cat trees for them to jump on, and cozy hiding places for when they want their privacy. Cats- I loved all of the cats in this cafe! They were all very friendly and approachable, and ultimately there was no problem interacting with them at all. I understand that cats love to lounge around and sleep, but I personally had no problem just enjoying the space and being in the presence of these gentle felines. Just beware that there is a good chance many of them might be napping while your there- but that shouldn't stop your fun. There were also plenty of cats wanting to play around, so I always felt entertained. Another thing to look out for is they don't allow you to pick up the cats- I completely understand this rule and had no issue with it, but it's just something to keep note of. Drinks- I actually didn't try any of the drinks but I wanted to note that their menu looked super interesting! I saw some cookie butter chai latte, it seemed super delicious! They had a very long special menu full of fun flavors, and I was so pleasantly surprised with all the cool menu items that the shop had to offer. I can't say much on the taste itself since I didn't order anything, but it all looked like it was worth a try! Service- This is where I have some hesitance. The cafe was slightly busy when I walked in, which is understandable and out of anybody's control. I do wish they limited the amount of people that could enter because the space is quite small.. but overall it was enjoyable. The woman who worked up front seemed a little stern and unwelcoming. Can I give 0 stars??? I was so excited to visit here since I'm a huge cat lady!! It wasn't a good experience. It's definitely a cute idea though. First when we walked in the lady seemed annoyed that we were there. Almost like we were bothering her. There was only 3 options of pastries to choose from too. They charge to visit with the cats and you can only go with 2 people at a time. You only have a certain amount of time to visit with the cats and if you want to give a treat to the cat you have to pay per cat treat. The employee came in about 10 minutes later and said we were stressing the cat out and to go to the other side of the room. I've had cats my whole life, worked at a animal clinic and volunteered at numerous shelters. I know firsthand how to treat a cat and know if a cat is stressed or not. The cats all were super happy and loving the attention we were giving and playing with them. Only one cat hid and we didn't go by him so WE DIDN"T STRESS HIM OUT. I think the employee was just having a bad day because like I said earlier she seemed annoyed when we walked in. I suggest going to your local shelter where you're not timed and you can spend as long as you want there, you don't have to pay to visit with them, pay extra to give them cat treats, and you actually feel welcomed. read more

ARRIVAL: My partner and I came here at 9am on a Thursday morning. We were in town visiting Beacon for just 2 days. I scheduled our appointment online, which was pretty easy and gave me a chance to look over the rules. We booked an hour and were the only ones in the cat area for the whole time. FOOD/DRINK: I got a small rose vanilla iced latte and a cherry danish. The iced latte was good and the danish was only average. They have a very limited selection and quantity of pastries. It seems like they could run out pretty easily so I wouldn't rely on getting a snack there. Also, the pastries did not seem especially fresh, above store-bought quality, but not by much. SERVICE: There was only one employee in the cafe while we were there. She was kind, helpful, and wore a mask the whole time. When we arrived, she told us the names of all the cats, showed us around, and went over the important rules. She gave us a 10 minute warning before our hour of cat time was up, which I appreciated. She also let us sit at the table outside of the cat room for a while after our time was up and answered all of our questions about the cats. ATMOSPHERE/AMBIENCE: The whole place is relatively narrow but pretty deep. The non-cat area where you order coffee is especially small like a hallway. The cat area was about twice as wide and has a window that looks out onto the street with a sill where the cats can look from. Hanging out with the cats was a great time! Our hour flew by remarkably quickly. All the cats let us pet them. I expected at least one of them to be grouchy or not want to be touched, but they were all great, even the ones that were tucked away into their little beds. There was an area w/ litter boxes that was off-limits to people where the cats could go if they didn't want attention, which I think helped. There was a chalkboard with the names, ages, and descriptions of the cats. The decorations were mostly generic cat things and other info about adopting and whatnot. There were a couple chairs for us to sit in, toys for us to use to play with the cats, and a sink for us to wash our hands with before and after petting the cats. There was also a coin operated little gumball machine full of cat treats SUGGESTIONS: It would have been nice if there were more places to sit and more comfortable seats too. Outside the cat area there was just one small table with two metal folding chairs. Inside the cat area, there were maybe two chairs, a small bench, and a couple metal stools. It was fine with just my partner and I being there, but it would have been a bit cramped if any more people had been there. The chalkboard was helpful but I thought a face-wall (with pictures of each cat above their name/age) would have been lovely! It was difficult to tell some of the cats apart based solely on their descriptions on the chalkboard. It did not impede my experience at all, but I certainly liked knowing the names of the different cats I was meeting. This was my first time at a cat-fé! I came with some friends on a Sunday around 11 a.m., and there was already a group or two ahead of us. Occupancy is limited to 8 people at the moment due to COVID precautions. We were given a time slot to come back and had no problems on re-entry. Knowing that other cat cafés can charge $30 a person for an hour, getting 30 mins for $7 a person was a steal. I also ordered a charcoal mocha, which was refreshing and perfect for the ambience. If you plan to visit, PLEASE take the time to read the rules ahead of time on their website. If you plan to bring children, be warned that kids are not allowed to harass the cats, be mean to the cats, or try to force or wake the cats to play. Kids and adults are expected to be well behaved, quiet, and respectful towards the cats or the employees will intercede. The cats and their well-being come first, not the humans who are visiting. If you can't or won't follow the rules, you'll likely be asked to leave. Reservations are recommended, though walk-ins can be accommodated if there aren't already the max limit of people in the cat area. Several options are offered for reservations, and payment is made at the time reservations are made. We were very impressed with how clean the cafe side and cat area were considering there were 11 fur babies in residence. No litter box or cat pee odor. You aren't allowed to pick the cats up (which we completely understand), but if a kitty wants to jump on your lap to play or take a nap, that's allowed. The cats are allowed to be cats and go up to visitors on their terms. Imagine a stream of strange people trying to pick you up and squeeze you or interrupting your sleep to try and carry you around - no way. The employees enforce the rules to protect the cats, and that's a great thing. As for the drinks, those were really good. The Caramel Cookie Chai Latte I had was delicious, and their brewed coffee was really good. They offer a variety of treats from a local bakery if you have the munchies. I'd love to see a greater variety of baked goods available. Merchandise such as pins, coin purses, tees, stickers, stuffed animals, and so on - all cat themed, of course - are offered for sale. Donations of food, litter, toys, and money are accepted for the cats as well. After ordering out drinks, I chatted with one of the employees who took us into the cat area. She explained the cats stay at the cafe rather than go back to the shelter each night, so the cafe is their home until they are adopted. As cats are adopted, another cat from the shelter will get a chance to come stay at the cafe where they can live outside of a cage, socialize with other cats, learn to be around people, and get the extra exposure to hopefully find a forever home. The oldest cat there today was an eleven year old female tortie, and the youngest was a four month old grey tiger/tabby. The tortie was such a lovable sweetie with bunny soft fur! I spent much of the half hour giving her lots of scritches. It's sad older cats have such a terrible time getting adopted as this girl was utterly wonderful and wants little more than a sunny window to nap in and a permanent home. The baby grey tabby was napping hard and didn't do more than an ear twitch or two. There was a six year old male marmalade tabby who was made for being a lap cat. Simone, a year old white and marmalade tabby female, rewarded us with super loud purrs in exchange for ear scritches. Bradley, a marmalade kitten, was new to the cafe and was curled up in the storeroom with De'Sean (a grey tabby) and Olympia (a marmalade tabby). A pure black 18 month old female named Ruby watched us from her perch on one of the cat trees, and was more interested in grooming herself than playing with us puny humans. All of the cats there today showed signs of being well cared for: clean ears, bright eyes, super soft fur, trimmed nails, no terrible fear of people. A way to help support the cats in the cage and the shelter aside from a donation box would be good, like having a rack with shelves of items (cat food, treats, litter, toys, vet services such as vaccinations, etc.) for purchase (that the cafe had bought themselves already but could recoup the money by letting customers buy the items at the cafe for the same price). Even if it was a just a display of items the cafe and shelter needed where people took a laminated card from a stack in front If each item (dry food, litter, toy, vet service) to the checkout register to 'buy' that particular item or items for the shelter and cafe cats. Kind of like they do at grocery stores when they ask you to donate money to buy a meal for a food pantry. Customers could take a laminated card to 'buy' a bag of cat food and litter by giving the cards to the employee and adding the amount listed on each card to their cafe bill. Or the cafe and shelter could share a link for an Amazon, PetSmart, Petco, or Chewy wish list where customers could buy the requested items and they'd be shipped directly to the shelters and/or the cafe. Most people don't carry actual cash on themselves anymore, so the donations boxes in the cat area are a good idea, but not very practical. Happy to see this idea reach the Hudson Valley, and happy to see older cats have a chance like this to find a loving home for the rest of their lives. I hope Beans is here to stay! read more

Being a cat lover the idea sounds nice but the reality is completely different. My friend and I were excited to come across this shop. They charge $7 per person for 30 minutes to spend time with the cats. When we walked in we immediately noticed an odor. They quickly tell you the rules and allow you in the separate cat room. We were shocked that it reeked so bad of urine and feces. After 5 minutes we were getting ready to leave the odor was unbearable. We noticed in the back room at least 10 liter boxes with faces and urine. We understood the rules to be "you can pick up a cat if it came to you." So my friend, before leaving, picked up one of 17 cats that had jumped in to her purse. An employ immediately came in and berated her and told us to leave because the rule was not to pick up the cats. In her defense, my friend profusely apologized and let them know she meant no disrespect to their rules, that she misunderstood. Only for another employee to come in and tell my friend she was wrong. We were treated so rudely. The staff was extremely unprofessional and refused to reimburse us. It wasn't about the money, but the principal. Not sure how this place stays in business and the humane society or animal control had not shut them down for their uncleanliness. I've come here a few times and always had a pleasant experience, however today the employee was extremely rude. When she showed us in the room with the cats, she spoke extremely fast and we could hardly understand what she said. Well, my sister in law gently picked one of the cats up and the employee barged into the room and belittled and yelled at her in a condescending and extremely rude manner. My sister in law began to apologize, but the employee raised her voice and continued to berate her. It was shocking and very unprofessional! The situation could have, and should have been handled with a more mature and professional approach. We didn't hear her say to not pick up the cats, as she had spoken to us incredibly fast like she was trying to auction a car off! I wish she had emphasized the rule of no picking up cats when she led us to the room if it were such a vital rule for visitors to follow, or post a large sign where people can clearly read it. She honestly made it seem like she had picked the cat up by it's tail and was spinning it around! Honestly, it ruined our experience at the cafe and made us feel very unwelcome for the remainder of our visit. We love Beans! We visit frequently all the way from NJ because we enjoy the cat cafe (and the city of Beacon) so much. Beans is a very clean and bright place and the cats are adoptable and are very well cared for. When you walk past this place the main attraction is the array of cute kitties that are perched by the window. These cats are all up for adoption and are always super friendly. But the real surprise for me was how good the treats (for humans) are. They have yummy pastries and delicious coffee for sale. I tried their honey lavender latte and was blown away. First of all , I went to the cafe with my husband and two daughters. I reserved a time frame for one hour not knowing that I would be sharing my space with other families. I was trying to look for a kitten but I felt like it got competitive since I saw a woman looking to adopt a kitten that I was trying to look at. My entire experience was overwhelming and not enjoyable. I was afraid to pick out a kitten for fear of another family wanting the kitten first.
