Well, I had a weekday afternoon off of work, so I made the most of that afternoon by stopping by Marina Cafe to try a drink. Marina Cafe is located on Main St close to the Seal Beach pier. When I was driving down on Main St, I was surprised to see a handful of empty parking stalls, which allow for up to 2 hours of free parking there. I found a spot just a few doors north of the cafe. There are a few signs in front of the cafe that don't necessarily say Marina Cafe, so one could easily miss it while walking on the west side of Main St. Just know that it's next to Cold Stone Creamery, which is closest to the pier. Marina Cafe is a pretty small cafe. So small that inside, there's only one table for two between the two front doors. However, there are a couple of tables outside: one that seats two, and one that seats four. When i arrived, there wasn't anybody inside to greet me. I studied the menu for a little while before Emma came out to assist me. I asked her a handful of questions about the menu like which drinks were caffeinated and which drinks were on the non-sweeter side. She mentioned that she was willing to make certain drinks less sweet, like a smoothie. The Large is only $1 more than a Medium, or 50 cents more if you take into consideration my Fivestars reward, and when I saw the cup sizes on the front counter, I discerned that the Large would be the better buy. Which smoothie did I get? The Cookies & Cream, which would have been around $8 if not for Fivestars, and it could have been made less sweet like I alluded to in the previous paragraph. Before I could even ask how long the wait would be, Emma said it'd be just a few minutes. It was about five minutes before she had my drink ready on the pickup counter, and that even included her ringing up another customer and making their drink as well; our drinks were ready at the exact same time. The Cookies & Cream Smoothie had cookie crumbles on top, but I was given a regular straw instead of a boba straw. A few of the crumbles were pretty large and couldn't fit inside the straw, so I had to scoop them up like a spoon. There wasn't a whole lot of cookies & cream flavor in the smoothie, though I can't say I was expecting there to be since I did mention to her I wanted something less sweeter than the norm. Didn't think Cookies & Cream could be *that* bland, but nevertheless, it did the trick for me after working more hours than usual. Location was great too. Since it was so close to the Seal Beach pier, I got to walk on the pier while sipping on the smoothie, though I spent about 15 minutes inside the cafe enjoying the soft and slow music, which eased up some of the tension that had been building up in me. There was a bit of a language barrier between me and Emma. Otherwise, decent service overall. I appreciate how helpful she was and how she made a conscientious effort to make my smoothie as sugar free as can be. They have a handful of portraits on the wall showing photos of their menu offerings. So maybe if you have absolutely no idea what you want, one idea is to point randomly on the wall! lol Even though I didn't enjoy the smoothie as much as I hoped, I'll happily give 4 stars for Emma's helpful service as well as the relaxing atmosphere both inside and at the nearby pier. I doubt I'd pay full price, but if I get another Fivestars reward in the near future, I'll definitely consider a return visit.
