I originally purchased a Living Social deal and took the Bead It class. I didn't use the coupon from the class for future purchases right away and it expired. I returned to the store to eventually buy beads to start my first project a few months later and spent over $200 buying tools, beads and supplies. As soon as I got home I noticed I had an email from Bead It for a 25% off sale they were having the next day. I immediately called the shop and asked if I could use the coupon or return my merchandise and re-purchase it. I received a call back stating that all sales are final and that I wouldn't be able to use the coupon, unless I wanted to come back to shop and buy additional beads/supplies. As a marketing professional myself I value customer service greatly for my company and try to bend over backwards to make sure we always have a great outcome from a customer inquiry. Especially since it's more expensive to find a new customer then retain an existing one. I feel that this was a bad experience for a new customer and hopefully this review will help. This place is dangerously fun! The staff is educated and upon checking out make sure that you have everything you need for a certain project (beading= do you have jump rings? Metal work= do you have flux?). It's a super helpful element, since the shop is beautifully distracting in so many ways and causes your imagination to be thrown off focus. For small Miyuki beads (what I use the most of), their stock is smaller, but they have key colors and with the space they have they have much more than would seem possible. For accent stones, jewels, beads, etc they cannot be surpassed. Go check them out! You'll leave with what you need and a little bit more. Highly recommend. Mahalo! read more

Expensive, bad customer service. I went in looking for things to make a bead/leather wrap bracelet with and when i told the sales woman (she may have been the manager) what I wanted to make, she looked at me like I was crazy. When I found what I was looking for and bought everything, a foot of brass bead chain, 6 inches of red rhinestone chain, and some hemp came out to $25. I paid $14 for the rhinestone chain. Are you kidding? I had no idea it was that expensive and the price wasn't visible on the spool so I was tricked. Do the math, it comes out to more than 2$ PER INCH. Now, I have no problem spending money, but when i'm spending it someplace where the staff is rude and condescending, then I have a problem. If you're looking to buy rhinestone chains or brass bead chains, or anything craft related, I'd suggest looking online at Ornamenta. WAY CHEAPER. I could have gotten a foot of it for 7.50. Double the amount for half the price, I'm not good with math so do it yourselves. Bottom line, Bead-It is a rip off, and I'd like to give the lady that was so rude a nice verbal smack down. This place is okay. It's a small business so things are pretty pricey and the bead selection (both loose and strands) is limited, especially for what you can get from vendors on Etsy or at other stores. Even so, it is nice to actually see the beads you're getting in person (as opposed to trying to judge by photos on Etsy) and (for me) not having to drive 20 minutes to the next closest store. I understand that buying from a small business will usually mean paying a little more. That said, I have come to expect that if I'm paying nearly double what I would pay elsewhere, service should be excellent. Overall, customer service Bead It can really range depending on who's there--sometimes it can take awhile to get helped (or acknowledged) if they are busy chatting with a regular or working on their own project at the counter and sometimes the employees are unfriendly. I think if Bead It could step up its customer service game, I could upgrade this to a 4-star review. Unfortunately, even while understanding that small businesses must charge more and have less variety to stay afloat, the high prices and limited selection would prevent this from becoming a 5-star review. read more

The earring basics class I had here with the instructor Pam was actually really good and enjoyable. The instructor was very warm, patient, and knowledgeable. I will take more classes here as long as it is taught by her. I gave this store only two starts because when I went back to shop in it I received not so great service from one of the sales people, Jasmine. I was new to jewelry making, so I had a few questions, to make sure I was purchasing the right supplies for my project. She gave me such an attitude and was very rude to me. At first I thought maybe she was just busy or in a bad mood, but after looking at other yelp reviews, it seems that others have had similar experiences. I've been meaning to get into a new hobby, so instead of trying to teach myself wire wrapping, I decided to sign up for the wire basics class here. The fee was $40 and included all of the materials to make a wire-beaded bracelet. We were provided with printed instructions on the materials used, as well as tips on different types of wire. The printed packet also included step-by-step instructions w/ photos on how to make the bracelet. I originally felt nervous since I went alone and did not sign up with a friend. However, the other students were nice, friendly, and helped me to not feel bad for being lost during some steps. The instructor (Cathy) was VERY nice and patient with everyone. She also gave up trouble-shooting tips and info on what to do if X happens. She also made it a point to make sure we understood the steps and specifically said, "I want to show you so that when you go home you won't get stuck if this happens." I definitely feel that the class was worth $40, especially because the materials were provided and Bead It also provided tools for use. The included wire for the bracelet wasn't junky wire, but actually sterling silver. I believe the beads were also semi-precious stones, but if not, at least of quality material (they were NOT plastic beads). If you sign up for a class, Bead It gives you a coupon for 20% off items in their store for (I think) a month or two. The class was very fun for me and I will definitely be signing up for more in the next few months! read more

I went to Bead-It 4 times in the last week for their incredible trunk show! I hadn't really shopped there much before, but I couldn't resist the Chinese crystals and findings they had on sale! The women working were kind and helpful. The second day I popped in, I brought something that I had been working on and they were really enthusiastic about helping me find materials and colors that would work well for my projects. Some of their items are a bit expensive, but I find that it's all really high quality. They also offer classes at all of their locations (Kaimuki, Kailua, and Kapolei). Their classes are comprehensive and there's a class for just about any kind of jewelry making skill you could ever hope to learn! I haven't signed up for any yet but I hope to take a couple of classes soon! read more

I am a "frequent flyer" at Bead It! because I live dangerously close to this precious little shop! I have thoroughly enjoyed the classes as well as completing projects on my own time after learning the proper techniques in class. They have wonderful customer service and the teachers are excellent. Every time I swing by with questions or am in need of advice or tumbling, the employees have been extremely helpful. Time to update this review! Bead It is a jewelry/craft store that not only has beads, but chains, bangles, charms, etc! Ive been here a few times to get things for charms that I had received, and have had pretty good service every time. Located next to Sprout, across the street from the Elementary school, there are a few street parking stalls up front or in the nearby parking lot that is metered. This place is my usual go to place whenever I need a new chain or to make a bracelet, and is decently priced. I recently went since I had gotten a cute owl charm from Japan and wanted to make a leather cuff bracelet or some sort, and was lookin for supplies. Also, one of the chains that my sister had given to me (thats always hanging in my car) had broken recently, so I wanted to see if they could possibly repair it. I went in and was greeted immediately. I looked around but didnt see the leather cuff (bummer), but I liked that I wasnt hounded with questions about what I was looking for (yes yes, I am one of those shoppers!). I went up to the front counter and asked if they were able to repair my chain. A couple of the girls took a look at it and nodded, saying that it looked like a pretty easy fix. One girl took her pliers and worked on it like nothing and was done in a few minutes. She gave me the clasp in a mini zip lock just in case I wanted it. I came in a week or so ago and bought a piece of hardware for about $0.60 cents. I came in yesterday and bought a clasp and two more of the same pieces of hardware and was charged almost $9. The girl said the clasp was something like $5.50 and the hardware was the rest. I mentioned the fact the hardware was a lot more expensive and I just had boughten the same piece last week for $0.60. She didn't have an answer for me just basically said I was wrong and these are different.. that is why I went to buy the pieces because I am DYI or I would have paid my jeweler $10 to do it And then continues to say there would be another charge if they put the clasp on.... which is using a pair of pliers to open and close a ring... I understand rent has to be paid I am a business owner in Waikiki myself but this is a total rip off. I won't be back not like it matters because I only spend short change but I felt the need to write this because you shouldn't do people like that, I normally would never have even bought it but it was my husbands birthdays and I needed to fix his chain that day. read more

Annoyed with the customer service. I waited for an employee or possibly the owner to finish ringing up another customer because I was on a time crunch and had a single question. I said "Hi, I have a question" And he said "Hi, is it quick because she(another customer) came in before you." I said "Yes," he answered my question, gave me the item then proceeded to promptly walk away. The item he gave was one I would not be able to use for my project but since he had started what seems like an in depth conversation with the customer who came in before me I announced I was leaving and that the item was on the counter because it was so small I felt uncomfortable not being able to hand it back to the employee. Had he waited a few seconds before moving on I would have been able to comfortably return the item and leave. Unless I was told to pull a number in order to be help I would expect to be assisted properly regardless of who entered the store first as I had made it a point to wait and catch the employee before he went to another customer. read more

The good thing about my experience is that I received fine customer service when I went into Bead It, although I didn't need to be helped for long. After getting into a little jewelry making, I am always in need of new inspiration/beads/special pieces/whatever. Unfortunately B.I. is a business and they need to make money off of these small things. That being said, their prices are ridiculous. About 2x the price at other bead shops. I only bought a couple things here because they are close to me and it's convenient. But even then I found it to be of lesser quality. I thought I bought and paid for 28 gauge sterling silver half hard wire, 5ft would go for around $6 elsewhere but it was around $10 here. Worst of all it was horrible to work with which makes me think it wasn't sterling at all. They sell chain by the inch, not by 6 inches or a foot. So when it's $.98 for an inch of chain it doesn't sound that bad, unless you know that for the same chain at another store goes for $4.00ft. I appreciate small businesses, but overall this place is a curse inside a blessing. Blessed they are here and have certain items I need on the fly, and cursed because they are $$$$ and I don't know the quality I am getting. I highly recommend the family owned store The Bead Gallery. Decent prices and amazing collection for those who don't want jewelry that looks like it was made in your kids 2nd grade classroom. read more

Unfortunately, this BEAD store is NOT the place to start if U plan to invest in a new hobby. The supplies are very expensive! I paid for a item at another store for .75 cents. When I went to BI, they sold the exact same item for $2.00. The service was terrible. After reading the negative reviews on YELP, I could only laugh b/c I totally agree with all of them. Having a lot of artistic friends, everyone too mentioned about the employees who have zero personality & zero customer service. I have over 20 years of beading experience and I just had a simple question how to question on drilling. Instead of answering a basic question, they (the employees & the boss) replied in a very sassy way, "Oh, just take a class. Here's the brochure." So I started asking general questions about what kind of tools do they use, brands, etc. They told me they, "If U want to know what we use and how we do it, U must pay for the class." No sympathy, no smile on their face to show that they even cared, nothing. Love this place. I have been taking a few classes and it really really helps you get more creative. The owner Brendan is a great teacher as i just took his class recently. He makes sure you learn and makes you practice in front of him. Gosh there is a trillion pieces of jewelry you can make, its endless! I had an employee help me create and put my necklace together. She was an older chinese lady and she will give you the utmost respect to help you. Some of the other younger girls need to learn more about customer service, know how to smile more often, and/or need an attitude check. I said some, not all. Bottom line is that the older chinese lady is very nice and has a lot of knowledge/great suggestion to help you with all of your jewelry needs. I recommend her. I love Bead it, I could be in there for hours or minutes. They have everything. But that depends on what store you go to. I was just looking around and I saw some sea glass with no holes in them I was thinking of making a necklace or something and I asked the clerk if there was any with holes or how I could do that. She said that I could take one of their classes. And that wasn't so appealing to me, because I wanted to be able to do it on my own and she said the tool that they use isn't sold at their store probably a hardware store and I'd have to do it under water. Basically a lot of work for making one necklace wasn't worth it. But they did have red coral that I loved. I went to the Kapolei store and they had sea glass with holes which rocked but she said the guy that makes them tumbles the glass so its not from the ocean he makes them look like they were... downer, but if I ever needed sea glass with holes I know to go to the Kapolei store. Also the red coral there was chunky and didn't look like coral but chunky straight beads. Bead it is great when you know what you want or just want to look around and get ideas. Great for personalize gifts for besties or loved ones. Altho some beads don't have the prices on them and that got me once because I bought this pearl and that came out to thirty bucks, that shocked me. So just fyi not all the beads are cheap under a dollar or two. Also they have classes for certain beading sessions or whatever, I always wanted to check one out but just didn't have the time plus all the cool ones are in town at the Kaimuki Bead it. read more

Beware! Don't shop here! Bead it means Beat it! Last week I purchased seed beads here. I must have bought 9 or 10 tubes, about 1/3 of them on sale, 2/3 at regular price, for a total of 43.00. None were labeled with a color description, just a number, and some tubes were not in the correct places, so it was time consuming to pick colors and also get them back in proper places, as none of the slots were labeled. At home, I realized that I had a duplicate color, so I returned this past Saturday to exchange it for a different color and also buy some more tubes. The tube I wanted to exchange was a full price tube, and I wanted to exchange it for another full price tube. NO deal! ALL sales final! I wasn't asking for a refund, didn't want to exchange it for one on sale, just a no-money involved and a color swap transaction.(and I was going to spend more money!) . Basically, I politely told the clerk that their policy was a turn off, and I will never shop at that store again. Bella Beads and The Bead Gallery are very close to each other in Kalihi and have an extremely nice atmosphere with happy shoppers and students in class. Creations by You on Liliha St. was also recommended by an avid beader friend who spends thousands of dollars on beads and makes the most exquisite beaded necklaces. I wish she had warned me ahead of time about Bead it. I have read other reviews about Bead it, and it seems I am not alone in my reaction to this store. read more

First of all, this place can be intimidating for a man. But the clerk makes you feel comfortable by just giving you a tray which i must say gives you a little comfort walking amongst the regulars who know what their doing and shopping for. I was in this place just to browse what was avail and noticed that prices are reasonable. They even have proffessional jewelry tools handy for beginers, but not recommended. I am just a novice at this stuff, but really got into wirename crafting. They have everything you need from what kind to what size. This craft is adicting and you might spend an hour just figuring out what your gonna make, then next thing your eyes open and by dear God, your making something different.
