Both are quite similar in terms of size, but Barner's selection is a bit more well organized and curated, and also includes a fantastic selection of gifts, like art prints, handmade journals, and even quirky enamel pins! I loved the "Bookstore Cat" one, and wanted to get it, but had already shelled out some money for a pin at Rock Candy Vintage up the street. Ah, well! Next time! Barner Books came to us on a recommendation from fellow Hudson Valley Yelper Bill Z. (be sure to read his awesome review, as well!), and I am so glad we got a chance to stop in before they closed up shop for the day. My boyfriend and I had an abbreviated visit, but it was a lovely one nonetheless, and of course, whet our appetite for future returns! We even got the chance to meet the owner, who was gracious and chatty, and let us browse past closing time. I can't recommend this store enough - it is definitely on our list from now on for must-visits in New Paltz!

Kira is a fabulous guide without being too in the way-a fine balance that is not easy to strike. We recently cross recommended books to each other because the Experience there is about being a reader. Kira provides opportunities for her customers and we in turn are able to make purchases and sometimes have conversations which make for quite a Meaningful experience. The most recent recommendation was Little by Edward Carey. Kira was so thoughtful in hearing my interests and hope for a "good read" - she made a great suggestion to "not read the back cover summary " and went so for as to cover it (quite neatly). For this I am grateful as the summary would not have inspired me as much as the book itself did and it may have deterred my buying it. This book engaged me in a way I did it anticipate - a must read. There is not algorithm for this online - I am an exclusive bookstore shopper and will return again and again to Merritt Bookstore when I am in the area. Thank you Kira!

The book club, greeting cards and other carefully thought out products are on hand so you can treat yourself while you shop for the perfect book or build a gift basket for a gift. Another fantastic aspect of the store is the Antique Shop that shares the space. One never knows what kinds of treasures lurk on the shelves.......estate jewelry, art glass, furniture, paintings, vintage knick knacks, country furnishings and eclectic whatnots. A real destination to spend an hour, two or more whenever you're in Pawling.

This business has an old-school feel for sure, looking at the decor and taking in the original structure all around, is fun to look at. I'm sure there have been some touches here and there. Another feel for sure is, that it's nothing like B&N's and a libery, you'll see. The selections for the most part including the antiques had quite a variety and interesting ones. Anyone who's a geek in all of this, expect to be in the Cove for a long time. Service was very decent, along with one worker saying hello and how are you doing? It's rare to see that nowadays, and needs to become a big trend once again. When I'm in Pawling again, I'll be sure to make this stop again.

Glad to see Barnes & Noble hanging in there…read more Most locations have the same layout and mostly the same selections, so this one was no different. Store is clean, spacious, and well stocked. If you frequent this business, you already know what's in here from the children's area to the 'cafe' area and all in between. There is a nice Harry Potter area for fans to enjoy and the children's area is stocked well. I didn't have any employee interactions, which was fine as I didn't need assistance as I was just browsing. Prices are what they are. Located in the Cortlandt Town Center, they have their own parking area (though you can walk from any area in the Center), so you don't need to deal with the madness or some of the bad drivers in the main lot. Say what you will about Barnes & Noble - and I've said it myself - the business is not perfect and has its flaws, but it's still nice to have a place where you can hold a book and browse books the way you want to in the world of digital phasing out some physical forms of media (which I'm not a fan of - whether books or movies).
