I am much more interested in a high quality massage from someone with lots of knowledge of anatomy than I am interested in going to a spa and getting "pampered". Justin gave an excellent massage, spending a lot of time on areas of my back and legs that really needed attention. After my experience and reading the reviews, I've come to the conclusion that this place is a good location for an indulgent but affordable massage. However, if you want a 5 star yelp experience, here's the secret: request Patrick. He's the best. I've probably doomed my current ease of booking future massages, as he only sees a few people a week, but he's the one to see if you want a great massage at a great price. I've had a couple of massages here and love the location (a few minutes walk from the Arlington T stop), the selection of tea (very important on my list), and the clean comfortable atmosphere. As mentioned, this is not a spa. But there is a small waiting area and they encourage you to help yourself to tea. The massage rooms are clean and relatively quiet, except for the unavoidable traffic noise that occasionally comes through. The real treat is that Patrick gave me one of the best massages I've had. He was great at explaining the procedure and asking about my expectations. He was wonderful at making sure the pressure was not too intense nor too weak. He could make conversation or supply quiet. I recently bought a deal with this place via Groupon. With it, I got three 60 min massages for a great price. So far, I've had one of those massages which was great, one of the best I've had in Boston actually. However, one of my biggest pet peeves is these guys are really difficult to get a hold of. I've tried three times to contact them over the scheduling of my second massage and have had no luck. Tonight, I plan on going there just to see if I in fact, have a massage tonight. So that's kind of a bummer. Hopefully they can get that sorted out, because otherwise they're a great place. read more

I have been to Beacon Massage multiple times, probably ten or so. I used to see Patrick (who is great at working knots and trigger points on my neck and upper back) Then I switched to Suzette because I needed prenatal massages. She is great too! True, you will not get the spa like experience... but for the value, this place is highly recommended. Very very bad customer service. They took $65 dollars from me and I still got no massage. I initially booked a massage with them, but decided to cancel. Since they never pick up their phone I decided to leave a message on their voicemail about cancelling the message within their 12 hour refund deadline. I never heard back from them and it wasn't until I found my card was still charged that I called them. Obviously they didn't pick up and they told me that they never got a call from them. Not only did I lose my money for the massage which was 50 dollars they also charged a 15 dollar fee for not showing up to the massage. When I called back to ask what happened they wouldn't even offer to reschedule the massage or help at all. They were under the assumption that it was my mistake for not knowing that my message did not go to voicemail. This is no way to do business. If you are a business your phone should be available at least in the hours that are working. I hope other people who are considering taking a massage take their business elsewhere, because the guy that owns the place (Jason) is more than happy to take your money for no service at all. read more

I had purchased through one of the discount websites a 90 minute massage. Upon arrival, the small waiting room was nice, but the woman who greeted me hardly spoke any English and was extremely difficult to understand. My massage therapist was nice, but so socially awkward, I almost just left. He completely missed the knots in my shoulders and neck even after I had pointed them out in the pre-interview. I told him where I preferred a deeper tissue massage where I preferred a more relaxing massage and he didn't listen or didn't remember anything I said. The traffic noises are A LOT louder than a previous reviewer mentions. All I heard was traffic noises the entire time, even over the music playing in the room. Also at some point in the beginning of my massage the therapist turned OFF the space heater. HELLO! It's the middle of January!! Why on earth would you turn off the space heater?! By the end of my massage, I was freezing, incredibly uncomfortable and dying to get out of there as soon as possible. It's sad, because they are so reasonably priced, but I will never go back no matter how cheap they get. It was a terrible experience and made me so uncomfortable the entire time I was there. And for those wondering why I didn't just speak up, because I have had numerous massages at many different places around Boston, it's because the therapist and te space made me so uncomfortable, I was more focused on just getting out of there as soon as possible. read more

I purchased a deal for a massage here and by no means was I expecting to be ripped off. After several weeks of back and forth trying to contact someone there and leaving messages, I received two calls back from Jason. At this point I was starting to have my doubts about even going but he was friendly and seemed very professional which got me to rethink. Finally was able to arrange an appropriate evening appointment to fit in with my work and grad school schedule (in April). It was right before final exams so I was really beginning to look forward to this massage. I show up about 10-15 minutes before my appointment and hear my massive coughing and sneezing and profusely blowing her nose. It was flu season in Boston and just getting over a cold myself I was alarmed. I even suggested a reschedule if she wasn't feeling well. She said she was okay so we proceeded to get ready for the session. Shortly thereafter, k noticed her sniffling and called off the massage. For me, my health and well being is of utmost importance and I thought an establishment in the wellness industry would be just as concerned. Sadly, I was mistaken. I left a message and requested a reschedule. I received a call back from Jason, who was completely unaccommodating and lacking concern for health of his staff and hygiene issues. He claimed that the masseuse was not ill and said she was fine. He completely dismissed my comments about the sneezing and constant sniffles and claimed its normal. Sorry but I do not agree. I've only seen people exhibit those symptoms when they are I'll or affected by allergies. Either way germs are present and I am not comfortable with someone having direct contact to my body with these symptoms, especially before important finals around the corner. Jason refused to accommodated reschedule request or give me a refund. In fact he went on about how his business pays for the space etc etc. all businesses have expenses but that doesn't give you the right to unburden your frustrations on your customers and charging for a service you DID NOT provide. Worst customer service I've never experienced, hands down! Such an awful practice with awful management. Space and noise issues aren't even as bad in comparison to management and lack of professionalism issues. read more

I cannot say this too strongly: my experience at Beacon was a disaster. The owner, Jason, is the main culprit here.( I will not name the masseuse.) First off, after clearly telling my masseuse, and writing on the form, that my left foot should not be touched because of an Achilles heal strain, she gave me brief but vigorous massage on my left heal. It didn't hurt for more than a few seconds, but by the time I walked down the street right after the massage, I realized I was limping and in some pain. The Achilles tendon was badly affected. I thought it would last a few days at most, but now it is 3 weeks later, and I've just begun a month of physical therapy. I'd pay a thousand dollars to have NOT had this damaging massage! My emails to and from Jason about this matter were at first perfectly courteous, but after he "researched" the event, (apparently seeking info from medical sources) he claimed it was inconclusive that I got my injury from the massage and that my story didn't add up. Angry, I told him a legalistic letter such as the one her wrote was not needed because I'm not suing him; and I stated my case again. He granted me a refund, yet responded with a thousand word letter that can only be called unhinged. He analized my every sentence and my choice of adjectives. He accused me of making the whole thing up to get a free massage. He went on and on saying things that were beyond strange. I had already told him that I wasn't interested in coming back for a free massage, but he ended his letter by saying that I was banned from his establishment.
