I happened to stop by this location the other day and left with a bag full of stuff. Their decor and arts section was amazing, makeup needs a little help but cleaning section was great. I have been in here twice in two days, getting ready for a few upcoming costume parties. I am going to a greek party tonight (so I was looking for gold stuff) and a 70s party on Saturday night. What surprised me is how much Hallowe'en stuff they carry. I did expect to find Hallowe'en stuff there (it is end of September) but not in the volumes. They had some pretty cool stuff! Some of my faves (even though I didn't buy everything that was a fave) at $1.25 were: - black netting made of cloth that could be used for table cloths or spider webs - a plastic picture that's a hologram. When you look at it, it looks like a person, when you move to the side it looks like some kind of ghoul - Their chocolate bars - 2 for $1 are always good for this chocoholic - Dracula posters (I'm having a halloween party with a vampire theme, so I snagged those for later.....) This store is very unassuming from the outside. It is absolutely huge. I was shocked by the size of the space and how much inventory they have. They haev lots of party supplies, so definately consider them for any of your upcoming shakers.

They are especially good at stocking items for special events like Christmas, Halloween, Easter and any other holiday events. Some items may be a little cheaply made so you have to be discriminating. Never overly crowded and lots of parking but you have to pay. The staff are fairly friendly and helpful. Also, they are very efficient. The lineups move along quite well. It's amazing how much money you can save versus buying regular retail. I mostly buy in the children's area, housewares, snacks, special events aisles when available and stationery supplies. Would recommend if you like saving money.

But to force your customers to be unpaid employees is shameful. Customer should ALWAYS have the option of using the self-checkout or not. This is the 3rd time i have been refused access to a regular till, and will not be returning. I know my lonesome protest won't impact you, but I hope others wake up amd follow suit. The research is clear on this topic amd Canadians are suffering more burnout amd stress than ever because of all the added, upon paid work they are forced to do after leaving their own job. From Rubbermaid type containers, to knick knacky kitchen items, hangers, kids books, stocking stuffers, loot bag items, office supplies, bags/tissue/wrapping/cards, hair bobbles, paper & craft supplies and of course holiday related trinkets. A one stop shop when you need to be quick. I've never been to a dollar store that wasn't crammed full of inventory/people and this one is no different. And while I am not particularly fond of smallish crammed type places...I'm a dash and grabber (get in, find it, pay for it, get out).....otherwise distractions reign supreme and I end up spending $50 in a dollar store (been there, done that). This particular store seems to be short staffed and/or have a high staff turnover as I am always seeing new faces (employees) in the store and there are always boxes and boxes of store inventory waiting to be put on the shelves. I'm not sure how they keep up but it appears they must do a huge volume. They are a friendly bunch since in the past at least one of my kids (who has been with me) has had to use the washroom and they are accommodating. It's my go to more often than not as not many places can sell you a 12 pack of 8x10 envelopes for $1. Long live dollar stores!

However, based on the current economy, not many items besides bland everyday greeting cards are a $ (but it is the thought that counts, right?). That being said, there are many products between a $.50 and 3$ that are a good buy. I personally like the smoky coloured Coca-Cola glasses and other coloured glassware from the kitchen department, micro-usb cables (when they are not out), hangars for clothes (somehow no matter many I buy, they just vanish in the closet like socks in a dryer), and office supplies (good place for pens and paper) including extension cords, small tools, and power bars. I forgot to mention one of the better places to get last minute party supplies! Cleanup on aisle 3, wait, the micro-fiber towels are not there but a couple of aisles over (huge selection in automotive). And since I need to clean up other messes, good place for Band-Aids, q-tips, toothpaste (Arm & Hammer sensitive), and other items of a hygienic nature. I like this location since it has lots o parking even on the weekend and it is larger than most including the one near Sunridge Mall and the one on Denman Street in Vancouver's West End. I usually troll once a week to see what new products they have. It is my escape; sad, I know. The friendliness and service can be hit or mess but this is Canada so this is expected. Add to that, about 25% of the time, the product is the same price or cheaper elsewhere.

There was also a very helpful staff member in the aisle.I found a discrepancy between my calculation and the amount I was being charged but the person who seemed to be the evening manager was condescending and not at all willing to hear my complaint. I estimated the total to be around $23 and I was asked to pay $30 and change. He told me I didn't know how to add so I pulled out my calculator and as I added the items on the screen, he deleted it, but I was able to finish the calculation and showed it to him. He told me he was not willing to ring my purchase through again so I left. I hope he gets some lessons in customer service. Luckily there many other dollar stores in Calgary.

This dollar store is pretty high end - they've got Ed Hardy knockoff hats that aren't too bad as replicas go. It's the kind of place that you're likely going to leave with more than you bargained for, because there's always something that's too cheap to pass up.

I like this one for all the cotchkies and random things it has. It has a great selection of kids toys, which is perfect for gifts for friends kids but also for immature joke gifts for your friends. Nerf guns are hilariously fun. They have a decent selection of electronic equipment, like computer cords and some analogue TV stuff, blank CDS and storage items. It's no future shop, but if you know what you're looking for you can save a ton of money. They also have a bigger selection of bland gift-wares than the other, including candles and canada related items, which is perfect for secret santas and travelling abroad. I recommend taking the time to go through both to scope out exactly what it is that you want.
