I still cannot believe my experience with this outfit! I tried to get some information about a trip…read moreI had booked up - and paid for All I wanted to know was what time the trip was set to leave -because one place on their site stated it leaving at 9:45, and in another place it was set for 8:15 -- both departure places and date the same. I had tried on three separate occasions to reach someone by phone: a Friday(once), the following Monday (twice). After receiving no reply to my calls, and knowing absolutely nothing about the reputation of this company, I began to feel something was not right., so decided to visit their office - which turned out to be merely a post office box drop. This latter fact, while not a problem by itself, but coupled with the non-response to my calls, made me very uneasy. I returned home and tried once more to reach someone by phone. On the second try, the phone was answered . I started to explain that I had left numerous messages, but had received no response, so decided to visit the address given on their site. With that, this person immediately lost it, screaming at me for going to their "place of business". He would not let me explain why I was concerned about getting no call-back, but continued to rant across my voice, even though I shouted over his voice to try to get him to just listen to me. He just kept screaming about why had I visited their premises (mail box ). He went on and on (and on) without letting me say one word -- and by the way, I never did get the chance to ask for the information I had originally called about -- did the trip leave at 9:45 or at 8:15 ? I managed to understand over his bullying temper tantrum that he was inordinately fixated on the fact that I had visited the premises --WHY??? He carried on like this for several minutes before he hung up the phone. So, while I can say nothing about the quality of their actual trips, (because I never got the chance to sample them), if the experience I had in simply trying to talk to them, I strongly recommend that you do not contact them by phone or, God forbid, admit that you visited their premises (mail drop). If the same "prima donna" male answers you, hang up just as fast as you can :-)

Any trip you pick is a winner!! I have been sending both my son and daughter on their trips for…read morethe past five years. I also did these trips as a teenager. Such an amazing run company. The trips are well thought out and planned. Nicest staff. Not only do they kids have the time of their life, and literally get to see the world but cultivate friendships that will last a lifetime. The experiences they have stay with them forever.

If you're considering a back-end Westcoast Connection tour (where your teen joins after the trip…read morehas already started), or a WCC tour in general, I strongly encourage you to think twice and do more research. Our daughter joined the final 10 days of a 25-day Greece trip. What we weren't told was that by Day 15, the social dynamics were already firmly in place. The group had spent two weeks traveling together, creating inside jokes, friendships, matching outfits, routines, and cliques. Most of the teens were of the same faith (Jewish) and had gone to camps in previous years together and came in as huge friend groups that already seemed to share a lot of common background and references, which made it even harder for a newcomer to be included. WCC markets to this demographic and we had no clue about this. She was iced out and has never felt so isolated in her life. Most wouldn't associate with her at all. For reference, she is well traveled and was so excited to meet like minded teens. From the moment she arrived to the group she wanted to come home. They claim to be an inclusive environment where counselors help participants (solo travelers) make new friends. That was a major reason we chose them. Unfortunately, that wasn't our daughter's experience. Even after I raised my concerns before she left, I was assured they would have a get to know you activity but that never happened. She was one of only a handful of new participants joining halfway through the tour. There was no meaningful effort to integrate the new kids into an already established group. She didn't even get the chance to introduce herself when she arrived. My biggest disappointment isn't that teenagers naturally form friend groups, that's completely normal. It's that Westcoast Connection never adequately prepared us for how difficult joining a trip halfway through would be and that most kids knew each other and were the same faith. Not to mention, by day 15, the teens that started the tour are growing tired and so when fresh legs arrive all excited to go and do things, the group would rather stay at the hotel. Had we understood the reality of entering a group that had already spent two weeks bonding, we would never have enrolled her on that itinerary. Parents and teens spend thousands of dollars hoping their child will have an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, our daughter's trip was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. If Westcoast Connection continues offering mid-trip enrollment, they should either be completely transparent about the social challenges involved or have a structured integration plan that actually works. Right now, it feels like they're selling the same experience to late arrivals that the original participants receive, when in reality, they're not the same experience at all.
