First time coming to Beach Pit bbq and it did NOT disappoint. The well lit patio was welcoming along with Brian and Christian who greeted us. I took Christian's recommendation to try their meat sampler along with fried pickles as an appetizer. The food came out fast and fresh! Chef cooked the food to perfection.(you know it's great when you don't need sauce!) I absolutely loved both the blueberry and the jalapeño cornbread. Don't sleep on the smoked turkey either.... I had the 2 meat plate and the pulled pork and brisket was phenomenal! Corn bread was amazing! I enjoyed the bbq beans and coleslaw. Staff were friendly and food came pretty quick. Three of us shared a sampler platter that inc beef tips, smoked turkey, chicken, sausage, pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, coleslaw, beans and cornbread. At first it did not look to be enuf food, but it ended up being plenty. My faves were the ribs and sausage. The slaw was unique bc it was a vinegary slaw vs a creamy one. Marvin was the chef and made the best turkey I have ever had, it was juicy and tender and smokey, and all the other meats were the same. Christian greeted us as we were walking in and made us feel so welcomed and checked in all night making conversation that made the experience even better. The bbq sauce made it a bit better but still disappointing. The sides were very lack-luster as the potato salad tasted like it had been sitting for a couple days. The service was average, nothing special. The restaurant has outdoor seating that I have only seen empty. Not sure how they stay in business. Definitely will not try it again. Coleslaw was just cabbage and vinegar. The meat was OK... But just OK. Brisket came out chopped...?? that's like saying "we can't get a decent slice of brisket that you'd like". It wasn't bad brisket... But it was mostly ground up like it was just ready for a sandwich. Pulled pork, turkey, chicken were all "OK" and nothing special. I'm saving the blueberry cornbread for tomorrow, but it looks really good. The sliders are on your typical Hawaiian rolls. I really like that. They left the three rolls together and then inserted the meat. They left the barbecue sauce on the side. So upon arrival, I just had to open the top lid of the bread and pour barbecue sauce on top and close it down and then pull apart each little sandwich as I went. Really good. My husband and I went out for date night. It was our first time there and decided to share three meat plate. The waiter suggested the BBQ Sampler that had five meats. We weren't that hungry but we thought we could take home leftovers for our son. To our disappointment the meal was horrible. The brisket was super greasy and fatty! The chicken was all dark meat and fatty! The turkey was very dry. The ribs were also greasy and fatty. I tried to pull some of the meat off but there was too much fat. The sausage was ok. The mac and cheese was runny and unflavored and barely cooked all the way. The french fries were good. When the waiter came by to our table we informed him how horrible the food was. He offer to box up our food but couldn't pack it up. We didn't want to eat the food or bring it home to our son. We are never going back. read more

Si not bad, not great. The restaurant itself is nice, clean and has a nice ambiance. You can smell something delicious as you walk up to the restaurant so it definitely entices and excites you. The service is nice and friendly which's is always a good sign. So the food....I felt our food was warm, more towards the colder side. We didn't wait to dig in but the food just wasn't hot. It didn't take long to get our food either so not sure why the food wasn't hot. We sat inside also. We ordered pulled pork and brisket and even though it tasted fine, it was dry. The sauces/ BBQ sauces really helped but I want everything to taste good on its own and have the sauces elevate, the sauces were really just saving the food. Mac and cheese was bland, corn bread was fine and the French fries were good. Overall I can't expect to come back, my hunt for great BBQ continues. read more

It's a cute place and was recommended to me by a Costa Mesa local. I ordered the plate combo (one entree + two sides + cornbread). 1. The best that the beach pit has to offer is in the protein entrees. Best pulled pork I've had in a long time. My boyfriend ordered the brisket and this is the first restaurant he requested to go back to (he's been here before). 2. Mac and cheese is good. There wasn't too much that was significant about the flavor to me (the best Mac and cheese I've ever had was from Costco) but good Mac and cheese is usually hard to make at home and tend to be very specific to individual taste. Some like more cheese, some like different cheese. 3. Potato salad is actually potato salad. I've been to places where it's actually mashed potatoes. I didn't like the potato salad and I feel like it could have used some more seasoning. 4. Fries basket was deliciously crispy but not hard to eat. Better and more enjoyable than the two previous sides above. 5. Add their homemade barbecue sauces at your convenience. I liked that it wasn't already smothered when I ordered. read more

Dissapointing. Wife had a crav¹11qing for ribs, and Beach Put is hyper loc1¹1¹¹+1al but we had never tried it. Got1 a 1/2q rack rib plate for her and a 2 meat plate for myself. (Ordered to go) The ribs were good and that was the highlight of the meals. My 2 meat plate -- not so much. I chose Brisket and Turkey for my 2 smoked meats. Now what's the first thing you think of when you order (or even think about) brisket?? Most likely, it's long, moist slices with a nice red smoke ring just under a dark, crunchy and salty bark and maybe a thin layer of juicy flavourful fat. The brisket here is served CUT INTO TINY LITTLE CUBES , showed no inkling of a smoke ring, fat layer or a bark. i honestly had to wonder if they were serving up a regular old beef rump or shoulder roast under the guise of a "cut into pieces" brisket. It was on the DRY side as well, not much moisture present in the "cubes". Very Disappointing. Similar to the brisket -- i was expecting a nice HUNK of turkey whether it be part of a breast cut, or maybe a leg or thigh. What i got what a little pile of SLICED TURKEY, almost like sandwich meat. Again , very disappointing. The turkey meat was at least full of moisture and not dried out like the "brisket cubes" For the sides we choose mac & cheese ave potato salad. The potato salad was decent, not too over-filled with mayo and was a nice even keeled flavor. The mac and cheese though, was not so good. Very "loose", near flavorlees "cheese sauce" is what i would call its main component, and the macaroni was dense and hard , beyond "al dente" composure. I almost suspect its made with VELVEETA or "kraft singles" which we all know IS NOT REAL CHEESE , it's classified as "cheese food substance" ... after my initial taste and evaluation, i resurrected it myself in a pan with some milk, a little powdered dry mustard , a bay leaf and anout a 1/2 bag of Trader Joe's shredded 3 CHEESE blend. (That brought it back to life with real cheese flavor and texture and while simmering and blending, cooked the macaroni to a more palatable softness) Lastly the cornbread , included with each plate. You choose between jalepeno cornbread and blueberry corn bread. We choose jalapeño. It was just DRY DRY DRY and nearly microscopic pieces of jalapeño brought nothing to the table. Had to LOAD the sides of it with softened butter to be able to chew and swallow it down. Needless to say, the next time my wife has a craving for ribs, we will not be ordering from Beach Pit BBQ again. read more

First off, I just have to say--Beach Pit was incredible! Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the portion sizes were generous for the price. I just finished devouring the BBQ sampler, and I can honestly say I'll be back! Every type of meat was juicy and flavorful, with a hefty serving of each. The ribs were my favorite--they fell right off the bone and were the first to disappear. Haha! Beyond the food, I have to give a special shoutout to Bryan, one of the employees. I got my meal to go, but during the few minutes we chatted, his warm and genuinely happy demeanor made a lasting impression. These days, it's rare to meet someone in hospitality with such great energy and an instant smile--it was so refreshing! Thank you, Bryan!
