Stayed three nights at Beach Harbor Resort, and I knew I wasn't booking the Ritz. That said, I also didn't expect to spend half my weekend developing a complex relationship with the parking situation. We arrived on Friday around 5 p.m., and not a single parking spot was in sight. We ended up next door in an unpaved lot that was also packed, but with a little maneuvering (and some light praying), I managed to squeeze my car into something that vaguely resembled a space. At check-in, we asked what the parking policy was for paying guests. The front desk clerk smiled and said, "You will always have a spot." I looked at her and said, "Well... I don't now." And mentioned the joy of hauling all my stuff across two parking lots. She explained it was the Friday fish fry chaos, and that Saturdays and Sundays are just as fun with fish boils twice a day. Her advice? Come back late enough and you'll be golden. She wasn't wrong, but still. A little stressful. Now for the positives! The room had a fridge and microwave, which came in handy, and a sliding door that opened to a cute little courtyard. The beds were surprisingly comfy, and everything was clean. The room did have that slightly musty "I live near a lake" vibe, but nothing too tragic. Someone made off with our patio chairs, but at that point I was too relaxed (or maybe too tired from carrying my suitcase across the gravel lot) to care. The best part? The waterfront bar and grill on the property. Great spot to relax with a drink and enjoy the view. All in all, it was a comfortable, budget-friendly stay in a fantastic location right on the water. This place absolutely sucks. Worst motel I've ever stayed at in my life. Why? Let's do this. 1. Our room has ants--our dog's food dish was swarming with them! Also had to kill 3 earwigs, 1 centipede and 4+ spiders. Didn't realize "pet friendly" means you can bring your rare bug collection. If you come here, bring a jumbo box of live preying mantises and turn 'em loose. They will be in heaven. 2. Water pressure in the shower is virtually zero. They don't have water pipes, just a 90 year old geezer with a bagel-size prostate weakly trying to tinkle on you. If it rains during your stay, get out there and try to rinse the shampoo out of your hair. Not sure if the old man handles the showers in all rooms, or if there is a team of them. 3. The carpets are stained and disgusting. Only thing missing was a chalk outline of a dead body. Do not recwalk on them barefoot. 4. The Wi-Fi is great--if you're happy with AOL dial-up from 1998. (Good way to prevent warning reviews like this?) 5. I'm not saying the beds are awful, but I am driving straight to my chiropractor. Had more restful nights sleep camping in a rock quarry. 6. The room smells like a really bad fart. (In fairness, that might be my girlfriend's fault.) Nah, I'm not giving this dump the benefit of the doubt. You'd think with the junkyard doors (gaps big enough for bugs to march right in without ducking their heads) the stank would eventually fade. Nope. The bouquet is musty with notes of wet dog, and a hint of decomposition. That reminds me--Beach Harbor Resort (resort!) is pet-friendly! Why wouldn't it be? There's nothing a pack of hounds with dysentery could do that would make this place worse. If the Association of Incontinent Senior Dogs is looking for a venue to hold their annual conference, book now. Just make sure your shots are up to date, especially tetanus. In summary, this dump sucks so hard it pretty much ruined my life. (That's saying something, considering how bad my ex and her parents were.) Think of a haunted house, minus the charm and character. Cannot believe they charged us anything to stay here, much less $200/night. The owners of this hellhole ought to pay for therapy for my girlfriend and our kids. read more

It is a nice basic motel with a nice bar and restaurant on the property great view of the bay. The employees are very sweet and nice and took care of us. While Door County hotels are rarely fully upgraded and Beach Harbor is no different, it is a comfortable and affordable place to rest your head for a few nights in between all of the awesome Door County activities you'll be doing. It's dog friendly, it's on the water, and there is a dog friendly restaurant, kayak rental, and a small beach right there on site. The wifi is awful even with EAPs in the hallway, so prepare to bring your hotspot! Staff was nice, room was clean, and my dog enjoyed his time staying as did I! read more

We actually rented the three bedroom house that they have available through VRBO. The location of both the house and the resort are fabulous! The house is located just feet away from the water. The dining room table is located directly in front of large windows looking directly out on the water. Since we were practicing careful social distancing we ate all our meals at this table with its serene view and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. There is no dishwasher here though so all dishes had to be washed by hand. We were very appreciative that they had coffee and salt and pepper stocked for us. The resort itself is located only steps away from Potawatomi State Park. This is an absolute state treasure. Even though we were there in December, we had a peaceful and restorative hike with our dog through the park. read more

Fish boils, cheese curds, and kayaks, oh my! My friends and I visited Beach Harbor for several days this summer, never having been to Sturgeon Bay before. From the waitresses at Waterfront Mary's to the boat boys on the dock, everyone at Beach Harbor was accommodating and helpful! A few highlights: - FREE boat rentals! We kayaked and paddle boarded. It was never a hassle to get paddles or access to any of the boats. They have several of everything so there was never a wait to get on the water. (They also have charter boats and jetski's for a fee- totally worth it though). -FISH BOIL. I've never been to a fish boil before but from what I've heard, the one at Beach Harbor is the best in Sturgeon Bay. I don't want to ruin the experience if you've never done it before but I'll say the fish was delicious and the whole process was a lot of fun to be a part of. -Get the Munchy Basket (mozz sticks, cheese curds, fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, jalapeno poppers) and I'd also suggest the mango daiquiri... yum! - The view is incredible and made our trip that much more memorable. Just came back yesterday from a long weekend stay at BHR! We had 10 rooms booked for my Dad's birthday and everyone had the best time! The resort is very nice, the rooms are super clean and massive in size, everything is centrally located in the resort, very little walking from rooms to beach. The restaurant Waterfront Mary's was absolutely fantastic! The best food! Wing Wednesday was outstanding, the steak sandwiches were to die for on Saturday (we literally ordered 6 or 7 orders of them to share). The continental breakfast was very nice and perfect view of the water while eating out on the patio of the restaurant! Very laid back resort and everyone was extremely friendly! The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable! Kylie was amazing and very helpful as well was the other front office staff and restaurant staff and housekeeping did a very excellent job at keeping the rooms tidy and they were very sweet too! The beach was perfect for all of us, we got in the water each day and the kids loved having the huge Swan floats to climb on. You can rent boats and jet skis from the resort office too. It's not fit for a vacation. Rooms aren't fancy or clean ; had to change the bed sheets twice bec of the stains ! Bad smell in the rooms like mold, carpet is disgusting and the furniture is really old. We reserved a room for 6 people we get a tiny room with two beds and an old beat up sofa when we asked for the extra bed they wanted to charge $10 extra. Breakfast is not healthy at all all pancakes and waffles no eggs . Most people were nice except one and they all wanted to help. Scenery is great loved the lake and the boat ride . Kids were a little bored but overall it was relaxing for the adults . Owners ' dog was cute except when she pooped on the grass without any one seeing so it wasn't picked up! I am torn. I have been to Beach Harbor a few times over the past few years, usually for the Friday fish fry. It has always been very good, with many options to choose from. The service has always been friendly, and the drinks are unbelievably cheap. But, my most recent visit over the July 4th weekend left me wondering if I'll go back. Now, I understand that it was a holiday weekend, in Door County, so things were expected to be busy. When our group came in, we were able to sit right away, which was great, but we were warned that our order would take about an hour. Okay. I can deal with that. They told us in advance, and we agreed to wait. We had the fish there before and felt it was worth the wait. We ended up waiting more than an hour and a half. I did keep track. I was curious. So needless to say, we were all getting a little restless by that time...and so very hungry. All of our meals were not hot. Just warm. Not okay with that. My friend then complained that hers was too salty. I thought she was just being picky, so I tried some of hers. It was absolutely disgusting. It only tastes like salt, nothing else. I just didn't enjoy my experience at all this time. Sad to say, because I had always looked forward to coming here in the past. My experience here has been more good than bad, so take that into account. Perhaps this was just an isolated incident, on a crazy night, and the staff just couldn't handle the volume and maintain quality at the same time. When we first walked into our room. It smelled of nasty moldy water. Our mini fridge was warm and didn't cool our food. The couch isn't fit for sitting it is very short and isn't comfortable to sit on whatsoever. Our bed had a weird black stain on the comforter at the foot of the bed. Every pillow and blanket had hairs all over them before our family even sat on the bed. In the shower again there were hairs all over. The water pressure in the shower is so off. First it's pouring out water next you barely get a drop. Located in the hallway are several dehumidifiers. So even they know how bad the smell is and how much moisture there is in this hotel. The furniture in the room looks as if you got a piece from garage sale and was beating it with a hammer. One plus to the bedroom was that there were a lot of blankets to keep you warm. Well hairy blankets if you will. Here is a picture of the breakfast frozen waffles and pancakes you heat up in a toaster. There is a table cloth covered over a pool table for the "breakfast table." Our view was a natural, amazing view of the highway. All in all I would NEVER stay here again. Not even for free. read more

The rooms are always clean and ready to enjoy, every staff person we have ever encountered is helpful and polite. Waterfront Mary's has great food, the private beach is amazing. People in general are friendly, staying here is like coming to a giant family reunion, some people you know, some people you don't, but everyone is happy to see you. It is owned by a family, not a chain, and has a much better, cozier ambiance than a chain hotel. Our rooms always have a fridge and microwave, beds are comfy and clean. I went to Wisconsin for the first time and Beach Harbor Resort only enhanced my trip. The rooms were simple and clean. The service was spectacular from the rooms down to the front desk and to the restaurant, Waterfront Mary's. I saw the owners several times, who personally checked on tables and chatted with customers, which gave the eating and living experiences a nice, personal feel to it. On the subject of Waterfront Mary's, the food is amazing. Going to WI I already expected to eat fried food, a lot of it, and WF did not disapoint with the Munchie's Basket, full of every fried thing you could imagine; chicken, ravioli, mozzarella, jalapenos, fries, onions, and of course, cheese curds. I got one of these everyday although I probably could have gone with two a day. Their fish&chips is to die for and Jon's (the owner) Arrmazing chili was unbelievable. Lucky for me, I stayed over the weekend so I was able to experience the fish boil. It requires reservations and is $16.95 per person but you get to watch a little show, hear a story, and sit out at tables on the lawn. Honestly, if that happened at a waterfront anywhere in the DMV like the National Harbor or Baltimore or something it would have been $50 a person. It was SO worth it and the portions were (almost too) generous! Drinks were super cheap as well and came out super quick so I never had to be empty-handed on the beach ;) On the beach, there were free kayaks and paddleboards and sailboats open to all Beach Harbor customers, and life jackets hung up on a wall of the building. The only activity I paid for was jet-skiing but it was so worth it--did that everyday right before my Munchie's Basket! At night, the view is almost more magnificent than in the day because the moon rises right over the water and I watched it from the bonfire out on the lawn, where I roasted marshmallows and made s'mores while someone with a guitar took requests and serenaded the guests! Overall--amazing experience and I am DYING to get back over there and have some curds on the beach! read more

Writing my first-ever Yelp review because my vacation here in August was just that GREAT. Accommodations were comfortable and clean which is all I ever ask for. The rooms are simple, but there's so much going on at Beach Harbor and in Door County that you won't be spending any time in your room except to sleep! - The view of Sturgeon Bay is SPECTACULAR. - The small beach has a volleyball court and lounge chairs for guest use, along with free paddle-boards, kayaks, and life vests! - For a small fee, you can use the jet skis and boats, with so much to see up and down the bay from a rock cliff wall to moveable bridges. - Next to Waterfront Mary's restaurant, which hosts the fun Fish Boil, along with live music and other fun activities like pool and corn-hole. - The owners personally welcomed me and were around my entire stay to make sure guests were having an enjoyable time. Additionally, they had wonderful recommendations for things to do around the area (side note: I was so surprised how much there was to do in Door County... drive-in movies, local professional theater productions, vineyards, etc.!). We really enjoyed our stay. We visited with a 7 year old child and a 6 month old puppy. This place is very dog friendly (I found it on Bring Fido) but for those who do not like dogs, it may be annoying for you because there were quite a few dogs. It is reasonably priced and you get what you pay for. It is not a 5 star luxury resort, but our room was clean and led out to the grassy area and picnic tables was great. The access to the water and the free kayaks was also a nice addition. The motel is located right near Potawatami state park so minutes from the Ice Age trail for hiking / running / cycling. It is about 7 minutes from town and Sturgeon Bay is at the very bottom of Door County so a bit of a drive to other attractions. I would have liked designated smoking areas, but again, can't complain because my dog was allowed anywhere! The staff was friendly and responsive and we would come back again for sure. read more

Positives: the room was clean, the service was friendly, the restaurant has great food, there is a really nice view. Not so positives: my husband and I were looking forward to a 4 day weekend from active duty military life and as soon as he got off work we left for Sturgeon Bay. I had called a couple days in advance to let the resort know we were coming from 10 hours away and would be arriving at about 3AM and was told no problem, the room would be unlocked and the keys would be inside. We arrived on schedule (3 AM) completely exhausted only to find our room locked. Went around back to the glass door and found it locked as well, but we could see the keys on the dresser in the room. Called the office but obviously no one was there so we had to go back into town and pay for the few hours before checkout just to have a place to sleep. When we went back to Beach Harbor in the morning and explained what happened, the girl checking us in was apologetic but made no attempt to amend the mistake. Typically after having to find another hotel at that hour because the Resort you booked locked you out, one would expect a discounted rate of stay, a free breakfast, even just a free drink. Something. No such offers were made. We were simply not charged for the night we were locked out (which we still paid for at the other hotel, so they didn't really do us any favors). About 5 minutes after checking in and getting to our room someone knocked on the door. I thought maybe it was someone from the office coming to apologize. It was actually just someone from the office asking us to move our car so a truck with a boat could back up into the courtyard. Not impressed with the customer service at all. Also had an issue with the bartenders appearing a little drunk themselves. My husband went to order a virgin daiquiri for me (pregnant) and was there for 10 minutes (not at a busy hour) because the bar tender messed it up twice--caught himself before giving it to my husband, but still. read more

I'm big on cleanliness and the rooms were very clean and they were also cleaned daily! Front desk and staff was super helpful and very down to earth and friendly... Highly recommend staying here... Staff was very friendly and helpful. We ran into a problem with our booking dates and they were able to change our reservation without any trouble. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It was convenient to have a sliding door to the courtyard where they have lounge chairs, grills and picnic tables. Kayaks and paddle boards are free to use and other watercraft are available for rent. This is not a chain hotel, it is a family run business. The room had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker which was much appreciated. Being right on the water was amazing. Nice bar and restaurant right on the property. Breakfast was not fancy, but was a nice start for the day. Definitely a great value resort would stay here again. read more

It pains me to have to give this place even one star. What a dump! The room stunk like stale smoke, the bed was so uncomfortable and don't even get me started on the pillows. The towels in the room were sprayed with some gross lemon disinfectant that left them wet with yellow spots. GROSS! The staff were so surly and rude. I can not believe this place touts itself as "family friendly." It should tout itself as "the Porky's of the Midwest" as there were enough 20 something drunk people to have you think you were at a frat party. my mom and i stayed here while visiting door county area. the resort itself is in a good location right on the lake but the hallways smelled funny and our room was a mix of mustiness and the plug in they had in wall..probably to cover up the mustiness.. the floors felt moist. maybe use a dehumidifier? seems a bit dated too but the beds were somewhat comfortable. i would stay in someplace better though. the restaurant by the resort isn't very good either. read more

Had an amazing time at Beach Harbor Resort. The view is simply amazing. One of the best sunrises you could ask for while on vacation. It is walking distance to an amazing state park. we stayed at the cottage which is right on the water. Plenty of space for all of us to have are own area. Beach Harbor Resort was the perfect place to stay to kick off the new year! We stayed in the beach house, right on the water...literally steps away. Though it was the middle of winter, the view was incredible! I can't wait to come back and see what it's like in the summer! The beach house was perfect for our group and would be great for a family/families to get away for a bit! Plenty of room for everyone to have their own space and common areas for everyone to get together! It's such a serene location and having Waterfront Mary's right on the grounds was so handy, we didn't even have to leave the property! This place is disgusting. The pictures are not able to pick up the black mold and the stale smell of wet basement and cigarette smoke. It's a non smoking establishment.....sure it is. The bathroom in our room had dirt and hair on the floor. Also no counter. Just a sink hanging on the wall. The carpet was ripped. The bedspread was ripped and the bed lived up to the expectation the rest of this place put out. The sheets were thin, we only got three flat pillows and they don't put a whole mattress cover on the bed. Just a little pad on the top that comes right off when you climb into bed. This place is right off the water and they have boat and jet ski rentals but it was cold and rainy when we were there so we didn't get to enjoy that which is the only bonus to this place. The health department needs to come to this place. I don't get all the positive reviews and people saying their rooms were clean. Mine was, in the words of another reviewer, a crack den. My husband booked this place since he said the reviews were good. The location isn't bad but this whole place needs an overhaul. I'm amazed there were no bed bugs but I guess even bed bugs have standards. read more

Who writes these good reviews? Seriously? Their friends? We just got back from a two night stay at Beach Harbor Resort (and they use that resort term loosely) and it was disgusting. The whole complex is an overgrown biker bar and shitty crack den motel. Our room smelled like smoke and febreeze. By the second day the febreeze had worn off. The sheets are threadbare, you could see the mattress through them. There. Was. No. Showerhead. I called the office and they said that's normal because they have well water. Whatever. The towels were thin and stained with other people's makeup. There were bare wires hanging out of the wall over the bed where a switch plate cover was missing. Cigarette butts and lime wedges littered the tiny beach from the bar patrons. The only saving grace was the nice 20-something girl who manned the front desk. Kudos to you sweetie, even if your overlords are cheapskates who won't invest in shower heads. In a word, DON'T. read more

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend. The food at the bar is decent--we both had Friday night fish fry. There is a small beach with free kayak rental. My issues were with the room we rented--we had a King room without a patio. Let me first say that it was clean, and everything was in working order. When we arrived, there were caulk marks on the wall (like they were in the middle of painting?), which is odd but didn't bother me too much. The room was fine in size, and had a mini fridge and microwave, which was nice. However, it had a window unit ac which was not well sealed around the edges, and let bugs in. I killed four spiders, a mosquito, and two bees in two days. To top it off, our room wasn't serviced the first night we stayed. I went to complain, and the owner was very apologetic. She serviced our room herself and touched up the paint while we waited in the bar. At least there was good service recovery... This definitely is not the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We just spent 4 days at the Beach Harbor Resort. The hilights were the beach frontage, the pet policy, free kyaks, evening entertainment and the food was not bad. The rest was really quite dreadful! The restaurant service was so bad. It literally took well over an hour each time we ordered anything. Our blue haired waitress didn't seem to care a bit. In her defense, I'm sure she had zero training. The rooms, halls, and property were a huge mess....junk, broken chairs, old signs, and old Christmas decor littered the property. The rooms were damp, dingy, and the AC did not work properly. Dehumidifiers lined the halls. The staff was kind enough but seemingly unaware of the unappealing surroundings. We just returned from a 4 night stay. What a wonderful place! The staff are so nice and accomodating. Jenn and Jenna took good care of us. The food is great and the view is outstanding. You just cannot beat this place for the price. We definitely plan on returning to see the fall colors. Very family and pet friendly place.
