Master bedroom at the Beach House. Bonus, dogs allowed $10 per dog.

We actually rented the three bedroom house that they have available through VRBO. The location of both the house and the resort are fabulous! The house is located just feet away from the water. The dining room table is located directly in front of large windows looking directly out on the water. Since we were practicing careful social distancing we ate all our meals at this table with its serene view and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. There is no dishwasher here though so all dishes had to be washed by hand. We were very appreciative that they had coffee and salt and pepper stocked for us. The resort itself is located only steps away from Potawatomi State Park. This is an absolute state treasure. Even though we were there in December, we had a peaceful and restorative hike with our dog through the park.

View of the bay and boats!

Fish boils, cheese curds, and kayaks, oh my! My friends and I visited Beach Harbor for several days this summer, never having been to Sturgeon Bay before. From the waitresses at Waterfront Mary's to the boat boys on the dock, everyone at Beach Harbor was accommodating and helpful! A few highlights: - FREE boat rentals! We kayaked and paddle boarded. It was never a hassle to get paddles or access to any of the boats. They have several of everything so there was never a wait to get on the water. (They also have charter boats and jetski's for a fee- totally worth it though). -FISH BOIL. I've never been to a fish boil before but from what I've heard, the one at Beach Harbor is the best in Sturgeon Bay. I don't want to ruin the experience if you've never done it before but I'll say the fish was delicious and the whole process was a lot of fun to be a part of. -Get the Munchy Basket (mozz sticks, cheese curds, fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, jalapeno poppers) and I'd also suggest the mango daiquiri... yum! - The view is incredible and made our trip that much more memorable. Beach harbor is a perfect getaway! Recommend recommend recommend!

Our new favorite spot in Door County, wonderful rooms, great staff and reasonable prices. Let the crowds go to the north end of Door County, I'll stay here with the private beach, live music by Scotty Cash, and nice little restaurant next door. Great staff, Great location, Great vibe. Highly recommended .

A "delicious" breakfast in the "arcade". You can also see milk sitting in a dish filled with water.

When we first walked into our room. It smelled of nasty moldy water. Our mini fridge was warm and didn't cool our food. The couch isn't fit for sitting it is very short and isn't comfortable to sit on whatsoever. Our bed had a weird black stain on the comforter at the foot of the bed. Every pillow and blanket had hairs all over them before our family even sat on the bed. In the shower again there were hairs all over. The water pressure in the shower is so off. First it's pouring out water next you barely get a drop. Located in the hallway are several dehumidifiers. So even they know how bad the smell is and how much moisture there is in this hotel. The furniture in the room looks as if you got a piece from garage sale and was beating it with a hammer. One plus to the bedroom was that there were a lot of blankets to keep you warm. Well hairy blankets if you will. Here is a picture of the breakfast frozen waffles and pancakes you heat up in a toaster. There is a table cloth covered over a pool table for the "breakfast table." Our view was a natural, amazing view of the highway. All in all I would NEVER stay here again. Not even for free.

So simple and delicious, with lemon wedges and tons of melted butter for your enjoyment :)

I went to Wisconsin for the first time and Beach Harbor Resort only enhanced my trip. The rooms were simple and clean. The service was spectacular from the rooms down to the front desk and to the restaurant, Waterfront Mary's. I saw the owners several times, who personally checked on tables and chatted with customers, which gave the eating and living experiences a nice, personal feel to it. On the subject of Waterfront Mary's, the food is amazing. Going to WI I already expected to eat fried food, a lot of it, and WF did not disapoint with the Munchie's Basket, full of every fried thing you could imagine; chicken, ravioli, mozzarella, jalapenos, fries, onions, and of course, cheese curds. I got one of these everyday although I probably could have gone with two a day. Their fish&chips is to die for and Jon's (the owner) Arrmazing chili was unbelievable. Lucky for me, I stayed over the weekend so I was able to experience the fish boil. It requires reservations and is $16.95 per person but you get to watch a little show, hear a story, and sit out at tables on the lawn. Honestly, if that happened at a waterfront anywhere in the DMV like the National Harbor or Baltimore or something it would have been $50 a person. It was SO worth it and the portions were (almost too) generous! Drinks were super cheap as well and came out super quick so I never had to be empty-handed on the beach ;) On the beach, there were free kayaks and paddleboards and sailboats open to all Beach Harbor customers, and life jackets hung up on a wall of the building. The only activity I paid for was jet-skiing but it was so worth it--did that everyday right before my Munchie's Basket! At night, the view is almost more magnificent than in the day because the moon rises right over the water and I watched it from the bonfire out on the lawn, where I roasted marshmallows and made s'mores while someone with a guitar took requests and serenaded the guests! Overall--amazing experience and I am DYING to get back over there and have some curds on the beach!

Owned by a family that couldn't be nicer or more accommodating, this is THE place to stay in Door County. You're on the edge of the peninsula and you have a gorgeous view of Potawatomi State Park and Sturgeon Bay along the lake. They have a few cottages for rent, though, since it's family owned and operated, a lot of the same families that have known these people for years continue to book it up every summer. It's definitely worth checking into, though. Each of the cottages can accommodate a different number of people, so whether you have 2 people in your group, or 7, they can find a place for you. If it's your thing, they also own 2 cottages on an island in the middle of the bay, so the only way to or from the cottage is by boat. I think that's pretty cool! Only about 20 minutes away from downtown Sturgeon Bay, it offers the perfect combination rural and small-town life. The roads leading to it are rarely traveled, so my family likes to take long bike rides along the roads and we're rarely caught around cars. It's also close to Sherwood Point Lighthouse and quite a few other rental cottages. The cottages themselves aren't air conditioned, though the weather is usually pretty cool near the lake. The only other rough condition is the spider and insect population. You're in the middle of the woods, so you have to know you're visiting their world, but I couldn't handle the amount of bug-life I had to endure. I'm kind of an indoor girl, so it's a little more than I can handle after a long period of time. Just for vacation, though, I can try and make my peace with living with the spiders. **shudder** My family and I will continue to visit Robertson's in the future, though, and it'll still be one of the highlights of the year!!

My dates were not flexible so I wanted to insure that we had a good place to stay. This had a great location and the Maple cottage appeared to have just what we were looking for. Unfortunately, in January I got an email from the property manager that the owners decided to use the place during the time that we had reserved. They did not disclose this to me at the time of the original rental. The only thing that was said was that they were holding my credit card information and I would be billed 1/2 in January and the remainder due just prior to arrival. Now we are having quite a bit of difficulty finding a rental for that same week. Had I known that this was more of a "maybe" than a reservation I would have booked something else. Just be aware if you try to book these properties in the summer or fall for the following summer, that you may lose your reservation to the owners' personal use.

This is a little-known property in Door County, WI. The property includes 3 rental options. I will…read morebriefly touch on each of the 3 options. This review is primarily for the smallest cottage, the Firefly, built in 1948 by the owner's father and grandfather which my husband and I have stayed twice (2011, 2012). For those of you who haven't visited Door County, it is the "thumb" that juts out from the mitten-shaped state of Wisconsin. A peninsula, it's chock-full of nostalgia and quintessential locales that are down right Norman Rockwell. The Firefly cottages are situated just outside the largest city in Door County, Sturgeon Bay, WI. The property is on a very private lot with beach-side cottages in a quaint spot just north of one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the peninsula. It faces the lake side of Lake Michigan so the water is colder than the bay side and referred to as "the quiet side" of the peninsula. While it is perfect for a quiet getaway, it is not directly within walking or biking distance of shops or restaurants, unless you're an avid cyclist. We have stayed at this property 2 years in a row now, both times around the 4th of July. As I mentioned, this property includes three different rental options, so you will have other renters with you on the property however it still remains very private. The newest and most modern construction rental option and also the largest is called the hideaway (https://sites.google.com/site/fireflycottages3/the-hideaway-cottage). It sits the furthest back from the shore behind the firefly cottage and has more modern amenities. I have not stayed in this particular unit. It sits behind the firefly so may have more obstructed views of the lake but is bigger, more modern, and has a cool fire pit in the yard. The larger of the cabins, the Viking (https://sites.google.com/site/fireflycottages3/the-viking), is a quintessential summer family getaway. There is a big, open great room that includes living room, dining room, kitchen. It's very well maintained by its loving owner. The house also includes a bedroom and a lofted sleeping area with two double-beds. There is also a full bath with tub so it's great for families at all stages and of all sizes. I would recommend trying to rent the Viking if you have more than 2 adults or more than 3 people. The smallest of the cottages, the Firefly is just perfect for a small family, romantic getaway for a couple, or individual reflection retreat. We have had the most lovely time both times we have stayed here. There is literally no (AT&T) cell phone service so be prepared to be totally unplugged. Took me a day or two to get used to this and I totally recommend doing it. Hey, you only get away once or twice a year. The emails can wait. And if you really need access, you can go into "town." The Firefly cottage is basically a one-room cottage with a little porch on the front (see my pics!). There is a little kitchen that we found to have everything we needed. There is a queen size bed in the main room, and a small, non-working fireplace makes the place feel even more quaint. The front porch has a couch that pulls out into a bed. We brought along an extra camping mattress and put it on top of the pullout mattress the year the boys came along with us and they seemed to sleep very comfortable - and they are big teenage boys! The beach: sandy and beautiful. We spent many days just sunbathing or playing bocce ball along the beach. It is stunning! The only downside we found is that every few years the ale wife (minnow) die off. This results in a beach littered with dead fish (yuck). We still had a great time and just had to do a little tidying of the beach. There's no way to tell when this death of thousands of fish will occur so there's no point in trying to worry about it when you make your plans. The locals don't give it much of a thought. If you are a dog lover, this is a perfect spot for you. Irene allows pets and our dog had a stellar time chasing seagulls and snapdragons the entire weekend. Love. The Firefly is more suited for an individual or romantic retreat for a couple than for a family of 4 but could work for a small family if the children are small. The shower is small so swim and enjoy!!! (drafted July 2012)
