Brand new beach bum is clean and inviting. Rooms can use a regular chair instead of a plastic bench it will be easier for clients to sit and get dressed rooms also missing a waste paper basket which makes it a bit inconvenient to take your garbage with you to the front of salon after a session. The experience coming to this location was wonderful. They reopened with brand new equipment and everything has been redone. Store is super pristine. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. I feel like you have to be a rocket scientist to work at a tanning salon. Seriously the job is NOT difficult but the staff here for some reason thinks their job is like surgery. Place is some what clean. I feel the bulbs do not get changed at all. That just goes to show owners are cheap and just want your money to keep rolling in. Lotion prices are outrageous- $7 for a packet that is .83 cost... come on! Beds are old and dusty. Fans broken- bulbs always out...Avoid at all cost! read more

I have been coming to this Beach Bum location for well over 10 years. I have watched many young staff come and go. Change is good....sadly the tanning beds have not changed at all in the last ten years. Yesterday I bought a 10-Tan Titanium package for $169 and then I asked for a packet of lotion and all together I paid $198. Seems like the lotion was terribly overpriced. Most Beach Bums have tanning machines for every level Bronze, Platinum, Titanium & Diamond packages. This location doesn't have a single Diamond & Platinum level tanning machine. They do have a Silver package but that's not even on an option on the main website. I buy the Titanium and they are the same exact beds that were there ten years ago. Doesn't exactly seem fair. I don't care how much I have to pay to tan but I want the best and newest machines on the market. I also don't want to get ripped off for the lotion.....especially when if I try a little packet of something and LOVE it, I will always buy the full bottle......but I won't buy it there ever again. The carpeting needs an upgrade not just the placement over the bad spots with a throw rug, the furniture is disgusting and the chocolate, mustard and dark terra cotta walls are dingy and depressing. The toilet paper holder hasn't functioned properly for the last five years. Last year I showed up and no one was there, no sign in the window. So I went shopping and came back after lunch.....same thing. I called and nothing. I left a voicemail....nothing. I even reached out to the Beach Bum headquarters to no avail. They didn't even offer me a free tan or a packet of lotion when I complained in person to the owner. I think the owner is a really nice person and I love to support local businesses but there are cleaner, newer and cheaper places to tan very close by. For my convenience, I will probably always come to this place but I'm not by any means satisfied with how there hasn't been an update in years. Old, dirty, depressing and sad. Sadly I think they have just given up and aren't re-investing in the business which is why 10 years later and they still have the same machines. read more

Every December I travel to eith the DR, Jamaica or Mexico and before I go I get my sun base at Beach bum . They are conveniently located on central park avenue. First off I know tanning is bad for you but came to even out a natural tan for an event. I haven't been tanning in forever so I asked the staff for advice on how to get the best results and what I was going for. She was very helpful and knowledgable. By the time of the even I had the exact results I wanted! The place is always clean, staff friendly and the hours are great (late nights). Sometimes you have to wait 15-30 minutes but there is a Dunkin donuts next door! :) They also offer spray tan, which I never got here. My friend did get it and the results were very good (also a safer alternative to UV Rays) I only did not get this because I was peeling and was advised it would peel off and make me look worse then my current peeling was. If your looking for a tanning salon. I definitely recommend this one! read more

I used this location in the past. Walked in because the place is close to my house and didn't want to take a ride to a place I usually go to. The girl in the front gave me a 4-5 page paperwork to fill out just to catch a quick tan. No thanks I'm not applying for a mortgage just trying to tan. I guess business is so good that they are willing to lose customers just like that cuz when I asked her if I can just take without doing all that she said no. Recently it looks like there has been a management change. I was told my sessions would expire at the end of this month and ended up losing on out 4 of them because of "miscommunication". I said ok and opted for one single session. After being told there was a 30 min wait I was told that the stand up was just as strong, not true. Beds are dirty, stand up has paper and scraps at the bottom. I really used to love this location but it's gotten pretty bad this summer. Won't be returning. read more

Everything is broken, will not adjust your package if the machine you paid for is broken. You can get heatstroke instead because the fans don't work nor does the water sprayer. Manager does not show her face there, will not talk to customers. Come in, girls have a puss on there face won't even greet you- instead ignore you and make you wait while they're on their personal phone calls. Stand ups are filthy. If you purchase a titanium package. There are only two beds for that level, one completely broken and one with no fan or water. They will not tell you this. The thing is, this location is privately owned. So the owner can completely abandon it and the girls can BS you, take your money and you have no recourse with corporate. This is a review more so about an employee, not the actual establishment bc Beach Bum is great. But there is a girl there that is extremely rude & nasty. Tanning bed 7 had issues with it shutting off constantly along with the top of the bed being held up by the room door & she continued to send people into it. The machine turned off & wouldn't turn back on. We let her know & she stormed into the room while saying, 'I'm not going to fucking show them how to fix the bed, when they are supposed to be trained already'. She press buttons, the tanning bed goes on. She comes back out, resets the time. When I go back in the bed won't turn back on, we tell her & she reiterates in a nasty attitude 'yes it does, you have to press the button!' I had to press down hard on the button located on the wall & it didnt work. I then hit the button in the machine (red button) & it to worked. The whole time we were waiting she was complaining that she wasn't suppose to be working. I get it, you're having a bad day. I have those but by no means at all should you treat your customers & coworker in such a matter. That gives Beach Bum an extremely bad look especially since every other employee there has a better attitude & is likeable. I just left Beach Bum. I'm thinking her name was 'Yanny' or 'Yari', I overheard her on the phone. idk but she needs to be taught manners. I went on Monday May 21st 2018 from the times of 325pm to 4pm. read more

I usually go to a different tanning salon but the weather was really bad out today and I just happened to be in the area and decided to give Beach Bum another try, and I am glad I did! I had been there in the past but I wasn't very pleased with the service, I felt like it was a hassle for the girl behind the counter to assist me. Today completely changed my mind! I was warmly greeted by a cheerful employee named Cristina! She was so helpful and sweet that I decided to buy a package! She told me about the Titanium level and said the bulbs worked really well and that they were just newly changed which was a huge plus! I hope the next time I go back, which will be within the week, that I get the same excellent customer service, it really does make all the difference! read more

I recently went back to this location to get a base tan for an upcoming event in February. I haven't been here in over 7+ years. Salon was empty on a Saturday mid-afternoon which should have been my first indication. The front desk woman was short, direct, didn't even look at me when I was asking questions about the different beds, etc. I had to ask about lotion, she didn't offer it at any point, and I had to inquire about the eye goggles (where they were kept), she couldn't be bothered to get up and show me around or where they were, she just pointed. I'm fair skinned, so getting a base takes a little longer than most and is important. She suggested I only go in for 7 minutes the first round, which I agreed with thinking she knew what she was talking about. I opted for a stand-up bed which is what I like and was instantly disappointed. It was dirty and I walked out after my 7 minute session freezing. Never once have I left a tan session freezing. I didn't get any color, not even a little red. I bought a package of 5 sessions and I don't think I'll even go back to use them. There are a few other places in Yonkers to get a better tan, service and experience. What a shame. read more

Purchased a mystic package 2 years ago. Same day as the machine broke. No problem, I waited a week the. 2 for this machine to be back up and working. I kept calling and they told me it was still out of order. I asked to switch my package over to a regular bed or get a refund...none of the workers there have access to do that...only the owner who only comes in Thursday's but not every Thursday...blah blah blah. Never got him on the phone. Did a charge back with my cc company because no matter how many times I left a message no one ever returned my call and the employees I spoke to couldn't do anything for me or even get the owner on the phone when I was there. Anyway, I haven't been back but every once in a while when I don't want to drive to the beach him I now go to who has working machines I call to see if the mystic is working. I called today...not working. Lol...after 2 years why wouldn't they just say they no longer have tho machine? I remember a time when this location was nice, fairly clean, working machines. Not anymore. I'm surprised it is still open. It seems the owner has checked out, maybe knows it's over or has himself in such a financial situation that he can't put any money back into his business but I advise everyone to no longer purchase packages here. I'm always surprised when I pass that this place is still even open. I'm sure it's on itS last leg. It's only a matter of time before it's closed for good. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars I walked in at 8 o'clock at night for a mystic spray tan because my regular Beachbum is under renovation (The door alarm dinged and nobody came out for over five minutes) I was told the mystic machine is broken I said should I come back tomorrow the girl said don't bother it's been broken for four months. Terrible.. I usually go to the Beach Bum in Mamaroneck which was absolutely outstanding! Their staff was amazing and full of life.. unfortunately it seems to be closed down so I decided to come to this beach bum on central ave in Yonkers and what was that for! I came in and I walk towards the front desk and the employe didn't even greet me or ask me what I needed she just stared into the computer as if I wasn't there. I came in for airbrush tanning and not only was the employe rude and disgusting the spray tan booth was terrible, it didn't even spray my legs or my sides of the body. The spray tan booth in Mamaroneck had a talking voice guidance and sprayed the body 360, this booth had no guidance and only sprayed front and back and left my legs out! So when I suggested to the rude front desk girl if I can have another round of spray tan,she told me to give her a sec that she is calling her boss, she had me waiting for 10 mins because he wasn't answering and once he got back to her she tried to say that I said to her that the machine was broken making it seem to her boss as if I was making it up to get another spray tan when that's not what I said. Without keeping me posted about what her boss said she rudely walks away to god knows where and comes back to tell me 5 mins after that the machine is working I can't help you. I demanded to speak to her boss and she said you can speak to him when he comes back next week, I insisted that she called her boss so I can have a word with him and what was that for, her boss is a bigger a*shole than she was that explains her misery! I would not recommend this place at all terrible customer service. read more

I personally love this place. The staff is friendly and is quick to help you find the right lotions and which bed you want to use for the results you are looking for. Unfortunately one of the really popular beds has been out of commission and it causes a longer wait, this is not the staffs fault, plus they are 100% accommodating to put you into another bed. This is my third salon. I don't have a lot of loyalty for these places. I go with the cheapest deal. But I chose convenience over price this time, and have going to BBT for the past year. The owner is nice, but the place is a mess. Carpets are pieced together, the bathroom has toilet paper, but the paper is just hanging out there because the dispenser doesn't close. Sometimes there are paper towels to dry your hands, and other times there aren't any. The beds are old. Cracked domes in the beds, dials missing, control labels are worn off. The computer gliches can have you waiting for a long time. I can't tell the staff from the customers, which doesn't affect me unless I'm trying to give out my name. When I started going there last year, and the place looked terrible, I thought it was because there was some kind of storm damage, or rough time that the management was having with getting new beds or getting beds repaired. A few thousand dollars of investment in a clean, decent rugs, working bathroom fixtures, and a couple of new beds would make a world of difference. Unless this place cleans up its act, this summer will be my last here. It doesn't have to be this hard. It's a tanning salon that requires minimal maintenance. It's not a restaurant that has to be scrubbed clean everyday. I hope the management reads these reviews. It's a shame. read more
