Great experience at Beach Bum Tanning, Bayside. Had been years since last time I tanned, found all the staff to be incredibly welcoming, helpful, kind and informative. Pricing is fair; I wanted a few sessions for an upcoming event, and wasn't put off by the cost of paying for individual visits versus buying a package. No sales pressure. I chose stand-up tanning and never made an appointment, just popped in when I could. A booth was always available, each time I was warmly welcomed and they reminded me of protective eyewear and lotion. Fingerprint recognition used to sign in. Supplies are available for purchase if you forget them. The place is clean and well maintained, and the staff is well trained. Recommend, and will visit again the next time I need a tan refresh. read more

This location has literary gone to shit... there is no structure to this place. Thank god for the renovations that make this place look somewhat decent now instead of the cracked floors with dust balls and cockroach traps behind each bed with roaches stuck to them. The girl in the front was sweet but she has absolutely no idea what she was doing and had to call management every 5 seconds. Workers should be throughally trained especially if shes working alone this holiday season. She wasn't aware of the specials going on & I had to explain them to her and she looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about, so they should also be updated of specials and how to put them in the computer as well. I came here yesterday to take advantage of some Black Friday specials willing to drop $300+ for packages and gift cards due to the email promotion. I ended walking out with a $100 gift card to give away and no packages for myself. The reason why I didn't buy any packages was because the girl wanted to sell me 8 sessions & give me an expiration of February 2020 as per management.... that's 8 sessions expiring 2 months. I'm not tanning 8 times within the next two months. I explained to the girl since i get laser treatments done on my face and body throughout the year, I would like to do what I normally do and extend the expiration. I explained to the girl that I always buy sessions and management approves as long as I don't get the free tanning Sunday. I gave this salon another chance and they have definitely won me back. A few years ago I didn't have such a pleasant experience but now they upped their game. Adriana airbrushed me and was such a pleasant woman to work with. She knew I was cold and lowered the air conditioning for me since I had to get undressed. She knew my shade and airbrushed me so perfectly. She even cleaned my nails after she finished. She has awesome customer service skills and should be recognized for her hard work. read more

This Beach Bum Tanning salon is probably an outlier in terms of appearance compared to other locations. It has a very run-down storefront, so much where you might mistake it as being closed like I did. I visited twice in the past few months and the service both times wasn't exactly much to my liking. I had one of those "Free tanning" cards they gave out at one of the Bell Blvd fairs a couple months back. On one side it offered a free airbrush tanning and on the other side, a free tanning bed session. I first came in to use the airbrush tanning and was told I'd have to still pay $20 because the card only covers $40 for the tan? So, that means that the entire tan is worth $60?! Not sure if they were lying because I later found out on the website that an airbrush tan is only $40. Although disappointed, I still took it. I was really hoping not to look like an oompa loompa and told them to do their best with determining the right color for me. Halfway through the session the lady asked if I wanted to use the rest of the bottle. She told me to look in the mirror and judge for myself. Mind you, that room is VERY dark. Theres no way on earth to possibly determine what you actually look like. My tan looked alright and I decided to use up the rest of the bottle to get my money's worth and have a little bit of extra color. I feel like the spray painter should have the expertise to tell you when enough is enough though. My color wasn't orange thank God, but the airbrush tanning was definitely overdone. I should have stopped earlier for sure. The next several days I noticed how blotchy my skin tone was. It was quite embarrassing. Not sure how experienced the girl I had was (pretty sure she wasn't too far off from a teenager) and if the outcome would have been much better at a different location. But I wasn't satisfied. They gave the coupon card back to me and told me I could return to use the other side and it'd be free of charge. A few months later I did just that. The manager told me I wouldn't be able to because I had already redeemed my "free" airbrush tanning session. I told her I last came a few months back and told her exactly what I'd been told. She told me again I couldn't. I said that I'd pay the money but that I felt I was being cheated from what I was previously told. She then told me she would honor the card so long as I purchase a lotion that's at least $6. I agreed. She then told me she was out of those lotions and the only one that was available was the $10 lotion. Of course they were lol. I still agreed because at this point I was like whatever, I don't care. Another girl with blonde hair led me into the room and spoke a mile a minute explaining everything. Mind you while she was talking, the timer on the bed had already started. It started at 8 min. When she left it was down to 7. Lets not forget I needed to apply the freakin lotion!! I tried to apply it as fast as I could but wasn't done, so I attempted to stop the timer myself but ended up starting it. I THEN had to put ALL of my clothes back on to go outside and tell them what happened. They told me to let them know whenever I was ready and they'd reset it for me. I mean, don't these people have any brains?? I have to apply the bronzer ALL over my body. That alone takes about 4 minutes and you guys gave me less than a minute. I finally started the tan. Afterwards, as I was getting dressed, I decided to read the instructions on the wall. It said to "Please wear protective eyewear which is provided at no cost". I asked them about that on my way out and they were like, "Oh you mean the winkies? Yea they're over there". Um, don't you think after I told you that this was my first tanning bed session ever that I'm pretty new to the game and maybe you should have maybe mentioned something about eyewear to me?? Not even for myself but I think that should be mentioned as a set rule to every single person who enters the tanning bed room, whether its their 1st time or 30th time. I was fuming at this point. They were like "well did you keep your eyes closed". I did. But do you know that closing your eyes alone doesn't actually protect you from UV damage? OH, and heres the kicker! This tanning bed session had done absolutely nothing to my skin. I think it might have made me 1 shade darker (basing this off a scale of 1-10, 10 being the darkest). I absolutely wasted my time and money here. No one said a single thing about my skin tone difference because, well, there was nothing to say. Even I could barely notice ANY difference. The coupon which I was told by the person at the fair was 100% free, ended up costing me $30 total, blotched skin I had to cover with makeup and another tan that did absolutely nothing to my skin tone but probably gave me some UV damage. I would be willing to try Beach Bum again but never again at this location. The people working there seem very inexperienced, unknowledgeable and very unfriendly. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. I just walked in to tan at 11:30 and waited for about four minutes because there was no one in the front and the place reeked like bud. they are advertised open until 12am. The rude child/kid who was working came out of the back and told me I can't tan after 11:30 and it's their policy. It was 11:32. They should advertise only open until 11:30 then. What horrible customer service.....A spray tan takes like 5 minutes. This is the worst place ever I will never come here again for anything and I will tell everyone I know not to. Tanning is dying out anyway so way to treat your customers like crap. Never again......I hope you go out of business. read more

When this place first opened it was pretty cool, run well, very efficient but as the years wen't by it just seemed like they started caring less about actually running a business and more about hanging out while they are supposed to be working. There is still one girl there that's really nice and helpful but most of the staff is busy on their phones, reading magazines, socializing with friends that come in, etc. They barely acknowledge your presence. They aren't very helpful when you ask questions either. They just try to force the highest priced packages down your throat. The prices have gone up significantly in the past few years. I don't come here very often and they frequently delete clients from their database so sometimes when I return I have to go through the whole hassle of giving them all my info all over again which is annoying. I always bring my own lotion, there was this one guy who would always ask to see my lotion and then tell me how my lotion wasn't good for my skin likely because he was making up just to get me to buy one of theirs. If there's no commision to be made the employees really just can't be bothered with you. read more

I walked in on a Saturday morning and the girl at the front desk, Dominique was friendly, professional and helpful. She put me in the Diamond bed and Brooke kindly walked me to the room and explained there would be 8 minutes to undress and get lotioned. She showed me which button to hit start the bed, which to turn the fans on. The room was a bit tight and I didn't have a lot of space to throw my coat, sweater, dress, handbag, etc. however, I found the entire experience to be quite seamless and enjoyable. read more

I have been going here for years. I happen to go 15 min before closing and I was willing to drop $250 on a package. Now I usually come late and who ever is working let's you in because they do close at 12 .1145 I was not let in for a 8 min tan. Now I know workers want to get home after work. But rejecting customers. 15 min before what your store ours say is bad biz. Well that's what happens when high school kids run a business. So I'll spend my 250 elsewhere. But I finally did and I had a great experience! The girl at the counter was super sweet and helpful. She helped me figure out what was best for me. I've have been coming to this salon for the past 3 years on and off again and I haven't had a terrible experience until yesterday. Given the summer season is on the way, I went with my sister to start up tanning again. It has been a while so we asked the associate's recommendations. She told us that we should be fine in the booth for 7 minutes, and and told us a tanning lotion for EXPERIENCED tanners would be our best option. Mind you, both my sister and I are the lightest two shades on the makeup counter and she is on medication. I am terribly BURNT now, and angry that these people didn't get enough training to cater to all skin types. Tanning is no joking matter and for me to get burnt was so insulting. I went in looking for packages and the young girl receptionist kept picking at some pimple or something on her face... The entire time we were talking... Gross. Behind me, was another girl, I assumed an employee because the store was empty so she couldn't have been waiting. She was sprawled on the couch. This is a business, not your living room. After tanning, I was getting dressed and all I hear is a girl telling the typical teenage story F*** this and F*** that, this F***ng guy... On and on and on!! Didn't the employee girl that walked me back say 'hey, FYI, we have a client in the back, watch your language.'?? I feel like if you're going to hire these many teenage kids to work, you should have a guardian on staff to ensure they're not treating your franchise like a high school courtyard. read more

URGENT: MUST READ!!!!! Was visiting my brother for the weekend that lives in Bayside, I'm originally from Suffolk and I usually go to Boca (prices are cheaper), first when I walked into the salon no one was at the front desk to greet me and secondly it SMELLED DISGUSTING AND MUSKY and not to mention the floors are cracking and the whole salon just looks run down, and not to mention I saw dead bug on the corner of the front desk floor. I was completely appalled how disgusting the condition of this salon was. Don't waste your money on this establishment and invest your money at Boca tanning that's so much nicer and cleaner (and not to mention cheaper!) I would recommend this place to anyone, and feel lucky to have found it - not only are their packages great and their equipment comfortable, but their incredible staff is what makes the experience here exceptional. To be honest, I've only interacted with Samantha, but I can only assume that the rest of the team is as amazing as her due to their inherently helpful and friendly demeanors. Samantha sets a standard for customer service that is hard to beat. First of all, she is beyond knowledgeable of every service Beach Bum offers, which makes me as a customer feel confident in my decisions. But second of all, and this has impressed me the most...she is so beautifully patient with beginners such as myself, and takes time to make sure customers understand exactly what they are getting while taking into careful consideration what they express they want. Not only is she patient, but she is so lovely in how she conveys her answers - she makes me feel so comfortable to ask questions, which is such an amazing quality in anyone, especially in a professional context. I am an anxious, nervous customer, with specific goals in mind, and I applaud anyone who tolerates my questions. But she doesn't just tolerate them - she makes me feel welcome. It's evident how hard she works, which makes it that more special to note the time she takes to make every customer feel that they can achieve their personalized tanning goals. These observations come from my experience dealing directly with her, as well as observing how she is with other customers as well. This is a terrible place. The staffs are so rude when I called and showed in the salon. I was doing the slim body wrap for an hour and the girl told me that she would come check on me in a little bit. She never showed, and I had to get up myself after the machine shut down. They scammed me out of money and lied to me multiple times. First when I signed up for a membership, $79 with a $99 sign up fee, I was told no commitment after I asked about it, which is why I signed up for it. Also told it was $79 INCLUDING TAX, and every month it actually comes out to almost $100, so lied to again there. After two months, I try to cancel and I can't because I haven't made the commitment, which I wasn't told about. So I commit to the last month. I go in two weeks before the end of the month not knowing I had to cancel a month before because no one told me that when I went to cancel the first time, so I was unable to. Cool, got another $100 out of me. So I attempt to sign the cancellation form and am told that I can't until a manager is there. So I have to go out of my way to call every day until there's a manager, go through the hell of parking on Bell Blvd, but WAIT, ITS THE SECOND OF THE MONTH, SO I CANT CANCEL UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MONTH. I was given misinformation multiple times, the staff is totally unreliable and immature, they're lounging around half the time, the headrests are filthy and caked with sweat and god knows what, the place looks like it's falling apart. I could look past that if the customer service was decent and the beds were up to par, but unfortunately they weren't. They're all desperate for sales and will shove things down your throat and lie just to make a buck. I'm not going back, and I warn everyone to really look into the packages if you're considering joining. read more

i love this salon and have come here frequently for fit wraps. The rooms are neat and clean (sanitized) after each patron. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because on a couple of visits the staff which was working played music that was very loud and expletive (towards disrespecting women, their genitals, sex, etc)! During the hour, I had to lay there and be subjected to such vulgarity, and each "song" that followed was worse than the next! I am not a prude, but after the session, I had to tell him that as a place of business, music should not be played for his personal preference, but for patrons. First of all, what keeps me coming back here are the hours!! Thank you for like practically always being open!! Second, it's got a great variety of beds and everyone who works there is very knowledgeable about the beds. Love love coming to tan in this location because the store is very clean and the employees are very sweet! However I sometimes find myself waiting for a few minutes or so for someone to come to the front desk to check me in because they are in the back and unaware that I am in the store. I like to tan quickly and sometimes there are multiple customers waiting with me. If the store had a bell of some sort I know the wait would not be nearly as long as the girls always try to please us! i have been going to Beach Bum in Bayside now for 2 years. The staff are always friendly and helpful, particularly Brooke and Dominique. They are always professional when I call for my appointments and go out of the way to accommodate me. The room where I get airbrushed is large, well ventilated and always spotless. Brooke does my airbrush and she is the best. Always thorough and makes me feel comfortable. It is convenient to both my home and my office and I never have trouble finding parking. I have been to other tanning salons on Francis Lewis Blvd. and they are dirty, the airbrush rooms are too small and the parking is miserable. I highly recommend Beach Bum in Bayside! read more
