I'm writing a review for myself, and one for my sister. I have thick, curly, wavy, straight hair, seriously, all at the same time. It grows out instead of down, so it's damn near impossible for me to find somebody that can cut it right. I usually have sections that are longer or way shorter, it's a mess. Since moving here I'd gone to a couple of less expensive places for trims, and felt that my hair was better off before I got it cut there. After reading some reviews I decided to try Beach Break Salon. I don't mind spending money on my hair, but I do mind when it's not done right. I met with Rebecca and told her I didn't have a particular cut in mind, I just wanted it to be more manageable without sacrificing too much length. I lived in Dallas and had great stylists there, that I'd just let do whatever they wanted. Because they knew me, their ideas always came out great. She said she had an idea and took me back for a shampoo. When my haircut was finished, she asked how I styled it and I told her that I didnt really, I was usually wash and wear, but sometimes I straightened it, so she straightened it for me and told me that I could come in and she'd show me how to wear it curly if I wanted. She also gave me a sample of the antifrizz serum that she used. Before I got my hair cut it was a mass of tangles and curls. Afterward it literally blew in the breeze. There was movement and it was nice. Now, without going into too much detail my sister was recently in an accident where her braid got tangled to the point where it had to be cut out. She was traumatized because she hadn't had a haircut in years. She'd never dyed it. It was down to her hips almost. She wanted to wait until it was long enough to be able to donate it for a wig for cancer kids. After spending 12 hours and three bottles of conditioner trying to work this knot out she accepted that she had to get a haircut. I called the salon and explained the situation and made her the appointment for that evening. When we got there, everybody was so nice. With the situation being what it was, they were very sensitive and attentive. Rebecca offered my sister a beer to help take the edge off, and because I was there with her I got one too. After assessing the situation, Rebecca tried to save as much length as she could and did something I've never, ever experienced. She said because my sister was forced to get a haircut that she didn't want she didn't feel comfortable letting her pay full price so she only charged her for a men's haircut. I told my sister before I took her that it wasn't a very cheap place, so she was ready to pay the right amount, that wasn't an issue. But then Rebecca took it a step further. You can get bang trims between haircuts complimentary usually, at most salons. Rebecca told my sister to give it a few days, weeks, whatever, and then come in with an idea of a hairstyle that she wanted and she'd shape it and trim it to that so my sister would be happier. She took a horrible situation and made it one that is almost nice. My sister looks awesome and I love how nice they were to her. I've found my Florida salon. read more

I first found beach break after moving to Gainesville for college some years ago. I didn't know a soul in town and so I went to Beach Break because the place seemed clean, professional, and it was close enough to campus. Beach Break is the first salon I tried in Gainesville and it will most definitely be the last. I have never been disappointed in the services I've received. When I went into the salon originally I had yellow-blonde highlights with thick, horrid-looking roots. I wanted to look more natural, and I gave my stylist, Dustin Lawrence, free reign to fix my mangled mop. He color corrected my blonde and disguised my dark roots. On top of that he cut my hair without cutting off too many inches, which often happens to me. Five years since first entering the salon, I continue to be a devout guest. I currently have an undercut and Dustin is the only stylist I trust to design it. His work is very intricate and because of his immense dedication to each task he does, I constantly leave feeling wonderful. He is pleasant to work with and always smiles, no matter if I'm his first or last client of the day. The last few appointments I've had have been very fun. I have been wanting to put colors in my hair and Dustin went above and beyond my expectations. Before my first "mermaid" appointment, I went in and Dustin tested different colors on my hair to see how my hair would handle them. He wanted to ensure my hair was as healthy as possible and that the colors would be as vibrant as I was asking. On the day of the appointment, I left in awe. My hair had every color of the rainbow woven within. I got so many compliments and Dustin really made me feel like a superstar. I've also had two other stylists at the salon - Rebekah Williams and Caitlin Achord - and both of them are equally as delightful. I especially appreciate the salon owner circulating the floor while clients receive services to make sure that things are going well and according to plan. I love Beach Break from the staff to the ambiance. I always feel like an honorary guest even when I'm just going in for a basic trim. If you're new to town (or not), you shouldn't hesitate to try out Beach Break Salon. I can guarantee you won't be dissatisfied. read more

Went today to get my haircut after quite some time. My hair was quite long, and I wanted a serious change, since it's already really hot in Florida and it's not even April. I was searching for quite a while to make sure I am putting myself in good hands, since I had a really bad experience in a different salon a year ago, so I looked for good reviews on Yelp! I saw Beach Break salon was highly rated, and I decided to give them a try. And I don't regret it!! I came there and got offered a drink right away, which is always nice, especially with the weather here. A very nice and polite lady, Rebekah, was ready to do my hair. First, I have to say that the way she washed my hair was amazing! It was like a like a very relaxing head massage, I loved it! Before she cut my hair, I tried to explain what I wanted to get done, and we checked some pictures online to make sure we both have the same mind image, and after that she cut my hair. She was EXTREMELY detailed with it! She basically fixed every mistake she could find (after checking at least 10 times if it was how I like it). And whenever I mentioned I don't like a little piece sticking somewhere, she fixed it right away! I don't know about others there, but Rebekah really respects her client's wishes above all! She also told me that I can come for them to fix my bangs up whenever I want to FOR FREE! She also recommended me a styling product that she used on my hair and I decided to buy it. The only downside to this place is that it was a bit more pricey than I expected it to be. I paid for a wash, cut and styling $40. I am used to paying around $20-25, but I am not sorry to give a bit more, knowing my hair is in good hands!! Highly recommended!!! read more

It was my first time at Beach Break Salon, and I asked for Dustin as my colorist. I'd read many great reviews about his work online and I was excited to get my hair done. I was going in for a drastic change. My hair was dark and virgin and I wanted to go blonde. But not just any blonde, a very specific shade of Shakira blonde. I was pretty nervous about doing something so different to my hair after so much time growing it out. Dustin was simply wonderful. He was very concerned (as I was) for the integrity of my hair and gave me several coloring options to choose from, explaining the pros and cons to each look. When we finally decided what to do, he took the time to explain each step of the process and (when I asked, as I'm always curious about hair chemistry) what each step was doing to my hair. It was a long, multi-tiered process to get the vision we wanted, but the end was pure perfection: I went from dark brown hair to a lovely, multidimensional ash blonde with shadow root and lowlights, and we did several moisturizing steps in between the lifting to preserve the integrity of my hair. When he finished blowdrying, my hair was so soft and shiny, not at all how I'd imagined it'd be with all that lifting. And, as an added bonus, I really enjoyed spending time with him! Dustin is so funny and easy to talk to. Had we not met at a salon, we'd get along swimmingly. :) In short, despite it being my very first time at Beach Break, I was treated like an old friend. I got amazing service, amazing hair, and despite being a long process to get what I wanted, I had a very relaxing time. I won't be trusting my color to anyone else! I made a huge mistake and dyed my dark blonde hair an almost black shade of brown, and tried for months to get rid of it. I accepted defeat and scheduled an appointment with one of their stylists, Zoe. The day I went in I had very long coppery and patchy colored brown hair - it looked awful. I wasn't expecting a miracle, just to make the situation less unbearable. Zoe discussed at length with me what she could do to fix my hair without damaging it badly. When she began the process, she spent hours (I think it was in total a 5 hour process), wrapping my hair in foils to give it the natural blonde balayage I had before. She was incredibly friendly, thorough, and explained the whole process to me as she did it. When it was finished and I got to see it, I actually cried (of happiness)! It was so gorgeous and natural looking and had totally remedied the awful, patchy color it was before. I have never had such a positive experience at a salon and I am forever grateful to Zoe for doing such a wonderful job. Break Break Salon is awesome!!!! After reading their reviews online I decided to make an appointment and find out for myself! My stylist was Rachel and she was fantastic!!! I explained that I really wanted a style to my usual simple and plain hair- I also showed her a few pictures of a long bob style I liked. The way Rachel took the time to listen and ask questions as I rambled on about what I liked about my hair as well as what was frustrating for me I could tell she was both caring, knowledgable and a highly skilled stylist! Rachel agreed that the long bob would be cute and classy so I sat back and she got started. Once I was done I was SO pleased with my cut!!! She gave me exactly what I was looking for!!! I have recieved many compliments about my hair and LOVE my new look!!! I will definately be seeing Rachel again!!! I called Beach Break the day before and easily scheduled an appointment for the following day. I arrived promptly at my scheduled time and was greeted by name and led to my stylist. Brandi introduced herself and asked me what I had in mind. I gave her a brief description, showed her a few pictures and off we went. At every stage of the cut she asked if I liked how the cut was developing, if I wanted it shorter or more length left. Brandi was very attentive to my requests and delivered an awesome cut. I was very happy to find out that I could stop in between cuts and have my hairline and ears trimmed free since I went with a very short cut along the sides and back. Beach Break is very clean and everyone was quite friendly. Brandi spent a fair amount of time with me since this was my first cut with her. I loved my experience at the salon and the cost was very reasonable (all their prices are on their website). I will return for sure. read more

I've been coming here for about a year now and I LOVE it. Annie does great waxing jobs and everyone is always asking me where I get my eyebrows done and I always highly recommend her. It's hard to find someone who doesn't just wax all of your eyebrows and leave you with a skinny brow. Annie knows how to shape them very well! My hairstylist is Emily. She's done my ombré hair to chopping 8 inches off to give me a long angled bob and I've been happy with each service every time! They also take their time with everything to make sure you're 100% happy when you leave. Everyone is always so nice and they really make you feel like family. I went to see Emily from Beach Break Salon for a haircut. Not only did she take the time to listen to me so my hair looked exactly how I wanted it to, but she explained what she was doing before she did it, which made me feel more comfortable and at ease with getting my haircut. If you're like me, you have no idea how to re-create the same style you leave the salon with, but she took the time to show me how to style my hair after getting my haircut, suggested products that have done amazing things for my hair and had experience and knowledge in what she was doing. She's amazing, that salon is amazing, and now I no longer feel like my hair is a helpless disaster! read more

Alyssa is amazing. She's super sweet and understands exactly what you like and don't like done on your hair. I wear hair extensions and I like my hair done a specific way so my extensions don't feel rough or get damaged. She takes the time needed to put in the work so you can leave feeling satisfied and happy with your hair. Best hairstylist I have been to in Gainesville Florida. I am extremely picky with my hair so it was super hard to find someone who cares about my hair and also knows how to work with hair extensions. read more

I love this salon. I'm actually from germany and I'm in Gainesville for an internship. All of them are so nice and so hospitable. After my treatment I felt like a supermodel. Rebecca made my hair excactly like I wanted it. There is no comparison to a german hairstylists. It isn't even expenciv. I love my hair and it isn't damaged. I'm so satisfied. Beach Break is the only place in Gainesville I'll go for cut and color! I've been seeing Tasha for almost 6 years and never leave disappointed. She's done everything on me from highlights to balayage and dealt with my hair both long and short. My boyfriend also gets his hair cut here now after several disastrous Great Clips experiences. Kate has done an amazing job on his cut. The atmosphere is fun but relaxing and you even get to have wine/beer during your service. Highly recommend! read more

I had such a great first time! I had Kendall and she is such a funny person. She's great for more "messier" style (like a wolfcut) and she did exactly what I was hoping for, as I am a bit picky with my hair. Lastly, it was great to talk to her, as it was great to connect with someone near my age (19).
