I've been a regular client at Be Pilates in West Seattle for nearly four years now, and I can testify to the superb teaching that Beth and Christopher provide consistently. I began working with them about a month after my 65th birthday (my doctor had suggested that Pilates might be a good way for me to improve and maintain my health), and this was the first time in my life that I had any physical training whatsoever--other than the usual lackadaisical and very infrequent "phys ed" in grade school. It's understating my deficiencies to say that I had "minimal" body-mind awareness, core strength and breath control. I also had developed, over the past several decades, a strong stoop in my upper body such that I simply could not lie flat on my back without the support of a pillow under my head. Now, after one to three individual lessons and/or group classes per week, I can boast that I've achieved the ability not only to have learned several of the Pilates mat exercises but also to have begun to master them. Furthermore, I'm still more comfortable on my back with a small pillow under my head, but I can rest my head on the mat without the pillow and it's getting better every month. My posture has improved to the point that I now stand erectly and walk with my head held high! Beth and Christopher showed unflagging support and encouragement throughout this evolution, without which I would never have stayed with the exercises. Their knowledge of the human anatomy and almost uncanny ability to find a way to help me strengthen muscles I didn't even know I had and to improve spinal flexibility to the point that I can not only attempt but also to perform the Pilates exercises is a tribute to their talents, efforts and perseverance. They make a dynamite team--each with his own individual style of teaching--, yet each of them never seems to lose sight of the goal of improving the physical abilities of the client. I intend to continue to make the trek from Vashon weekly to take advantage of this wonderful experience as long as I continue to improve so noticeably (I've noticed improvement in my body every month of the past four years). AMAZING Pilates studio! I've been a member of Be Pilates since August of this year. My initial motivation was to correct my slouched posture prior to my wedding and to strengthen muscles of my left body as they had become weaker overtime probably due to different lengths of my legs. Within a month, I become comfortable in a good posture and took tons of great looking photos during my wedding. As a first time Pilates student, I did have challenges working on the left side muscles. I would habitually become tense during workout and use my knee instead of muscles and my knee ended up in pain afterwards. Beth, the instructor, carefully listened to my concerns and coached me to make necessary adjustments so that I could workout pain-free. She truly cares about everyone in the studio and make sure everyone gets a great workout. The studio has awesome instructor, calm/relaxing vibe, friendly members, plus a very cute cat! Also, the studio also has a nice open practice system: members can book Pilates machine/tool they desire (reformer, chair, tower, etc.) for 30 min or an hour when their schedule works the best. This is my fourth month, now my body feels a lot stronger & balanced than it was before. I intend to continue my practice with Be Pilates studio. read more

I highly recommend Be Pilates. I chose Be Pilates after a long phone conversation with Beth, the owner. Beth was kind and patient and happy to answer all my questions with pushing a sale. I have a structural problem in my back which has caused pain for over 40 years and was looking for way to reduce the pain rather than continually needing physical therapy. I started with 3 private sessions with Christopher. He is wonderful! Knowledgeable, a great teacher and great at modifying any exercise that was a potential problem for me. The experience was so good, that I am now taking a group class. I was concerned that I would not get the same level of attention as the private session, but happily that has not been the case at all. The group classes a very small and Christopher pays attention to each of us. I stopped taking exercise classes at my gym because I kept injuring myself. Be Pilates has been a completely different, positive, injury-free experience. Amazingly, I started getting results right away. I look forward to coming, feel great afterwards and the effects last. I have been seeing Beth at BE Pilates for over a year and I cannot say enough about her! I am a 60 year old woman that has worked at a computer and done other innumerable bad things to my body for its entire life. On occasion my neck and back and/or hips have been so 'wacked out' that my husband and friends can easily see that I am standing/walking 'crooked'. But since seeing Beth my body has literally changed! My core strength has increased significantly, my posture has improved greatly and my breathing is getting better all the time. Maybe most remarkable is the awareness I now have of my own body. Beth is able to immediately assess my body when I enter the studio. If I have an acute problem we work on that and I always leave feeling so much better. Otherwise she has slowly but surely increased my strength, helped me to develop movement in my hips and shoulders (that I never knew I had!), and helped me to continue to be able to do the sports I love. Many a day when I am out hiking or skiing I give my thanks to Beth! I believe she is teaching me the skills to take my body strongly through my 60's and beyond. read more

My private sessions with Beth are a highlight of my week. She is sculpting my body one tiny muscle at a time. I have had chronic back pain and I am now pain free many days. Beth can always "fix me," leaving me feeling straighter and like I've had an internal massage. I enjoy exercise that lets me lay down for most of the work! No matter what shape you are in, Be Pilates can work with you to comfortably strengthen every part of your body. Beth continually offers positive encouragement, tailors every session for your body based on how you walk in the door (I tell her she has X-ray vision), and gives instructions and support that makes Pilates a truly enjoyable experience. Instead of pushing you, she gently guides and encourages you. She seems even happier about my progress than I am. I've also had sessions with Christopher, who is a great complement to Beth as he focuses on breathing techniques and grounding your body to relearn how to move naturally. Be Pilates far exceeded my hopes. I have developed enormous respect for Beth and Christopher's knowledge and skill in guiding their clients towards achieving our goals of health and well being.Classes are small so there is consistent personal attention to each client, to help us make the most of our efforts. I'm in my early 50's. I've done all kinds of exercise, but when I joined Be a year ago I hadn't done much in several years, and my body was hurting. My primary goal was to reduce or eliminate pain, and then ultimately gain strength and flexibility. After only a few weeks, my knee and hip pain was gone, and my shoulder/arm pain significantly reduced. A few weeks later, all pain was GONE. During the summer I missed 8 weeks of classes, and THE PAIN RETURNED! After a few classes back in Beth's trusty hands, the pain was gone again. Joining Be Pilates is the best thing I've done for myself in years. My posture, strength, stability and balance are better than they've ever been and while I know I haven't grown taller I sure feel that way! I had been curious about Pilates for some time when Be Pilates popped up in my neighborhood. Since I was a beginner I started with the intro series of grounding. I liked it so much I continued with the 2nd series of breathing. I can' t say enough about how beneficial it was to start like this, all the foundational things. Today I stand taller, have more flexibility, less neck and shoulder pain, and mentally feel better. I have been working with Beth for a few months after still feeling some aches and pains in my back, shoulder, and neck from a car accident. I was recommended to try Pilates by my physical therapist and it has helped a ton. I have had some prior Pilates experience and then stopped, but working with Beth and taking the group classes at the studio has reminded me how important it is to my daily life. Best workout and space for Pilates in Seattle! I have been to a lot of Pilates studios and this place is the best yet! I drive from the east side just to come here at least 2-3 times a week! Then, after class right next door is an amazing coffee shop to relax & have some coffee with friends.... Just makes the entire experience so worth it! Beth is THE source when it comes to learning how to live in your body. I have had so many injuries from all different types of exercise modalities. Most recent were hip injuries from Barre and Yoga. She taught me how to properly align my body properly so that I am using the correct muscles and avoiding injury. I am suddenly using muscles that I couldn't even access before.
