Although I am from New York/New Jersey and grew up with amazing bagels, I've had my fair share of not-so-good bagels elsewhere in the states. However, this was possibly one of the worst bagels I have ever had.
Looking for somewhere to get breakfast in the area, my boyfriend and I decided to check this place out because of the great Yelp reviews. Their hours listed online indicated that they were open at 9am. We arrived at 10am and a man doing construction inside said they were closed, but would open at 11am. Strike one. Being that there wasn't much else open in the area, we decided to hang out in the nearby courtyard and wait until they opened.
At 11am they did open, but they only had about four different types of bagels to choose from, which was rather disappointing considering that they have many more listed on their menu. Strike two. We decided to just get two bagels with cream cheese. However, they conveniently "ran out of cream cheese," or so the lady said. Strike three. So we ended up getting two bagels with ham and cheese, which we were told was one of their popular items. Not only was there barely any ham and an overabundance of cheese, but it was extremely dry and the bagel itself tasted a bit stale.
So my questions remains: How does a bagel place run out of cream cheese before serving their first customer, serve dry and somewhat stale bagels and still manage to get almost five stars on Yelp? I'm confused. read more
