Pretty solid Thai food! I was considerably impressed! Service and atmosphere were also really nice for a small town! Will definitely be coming back :)

I had the spring rolls and pineapple rice. Delicious. I ordered mine "to go". Service was fast and staff helpful. I'll be back.

Food took over an hour. No spice at all even though we asked for it spicy. Appetizers came out cold.

Unfortunately, I was on a work trip, but I could imagine this being the first stop then walking off the food. It is on the smaller side of restaurants, but the evening I visited, there was a party of 8 seated towards the back. I'd recommend parties of 2-4 max, but they can accommodate more if it's a slower night. The service was good, nothing over the top, but nothing below average. As soon as I entered, I was greeted and sat at one of the high tops. This high top was on the smaller side, but since I was just a party of one, it was reasonable and I another high top right next to me to use as well. The food came out pretty quickly, which was nice and they were easy to reach if I needed anything. Very welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the crab Rangoon, crispy chicken Thai basil, and a Thai Iced coffee. The server recommended the crab Rangoon when I asked her which she would choose between the shrimp rolls, spicy crispy chicken wings, or the crab Rangoon. They were solid, nothing crazy, but good. The crispy chicken Thai basil was decent as well; again nothing over the top, but the right portion with some heart shaped rice to go with it. In my opinion, it could use a little more spice. I went with the medium, but it was definitely not spicy at all, so I requested the spice tray to fix that. The Thai iced coffee was exactly what I would want it to taste like. Yes, I would recommend this place. Keep the party smaller. I'll have to try another dish on my next trip out here.

The furniture is light duty but reasonably new. I ordered Won Ton Soup, Chicken Larb (both traditional Thai entrées), and Green Tea. The Won Ton Soup was what the Chinese would call Wor Won Ton, meaning with other ingredients, in this case chicken breast, julienned carrots, romaine lettuce and diced green onion, all in a homemade chicken broth. Indeed the chicken broth was the highlight of the entrée. The won ton noodles had no filling--just noodles. It's the pork sausage that makes the dish, maybe with a shrimp or two, but nope--this was just a good chicken and vegetable soup. The Larb was recognizable as such, but lacked several classic ingredients one would expect--crispy garlic, lemon grass, lime, mint, and peanuts. It did have the crunch of roasted rice, and a hint of fish sauce, but not enough to bind the ground chicken. And the lettuce was served as a chopped salad with carrots, not as scoops for the Larb. Overall, the meal was good, but neither were probably signature entrées of the restaurant. Consequently, I thought the meal was overpriced. And it didn't help that they charged three dollars for hot tea with the meal--complementary anywhere else! I shall have to come back and try their curries for which they claim bragging rights. Otherwise , for this 1st visit it was a 3-star experience, (which is good, right?). I will add, that the two waitresses were excellent, very attentive.

I had the LOWEST expectations due to the many horrible reviews it has and the positive ones being friends with the owner. I didn't mind cheap food- I like cheap American Chinese food. BUT this is next level. Garbage. Disgusting. Lower quality than cafeteria food. I arrived at the time they told me to arrive. I then proceeded to wait 35min longer. No problem. I get it. It happens. After paying $18.50 before tip for my single order of orange chicken and fried rice (more expensive than any place in seattle) I went home. Opened the box- and I am honest when I say this, I have NEVER felt so disappointed. I literally felt robbed of my money. The orange chicken is the cheapest of the cheapest quality frozen chicken with the spongiest texture. The glaze on the orange chicken tasted like chemicals. Absolutely zero flavor. Fried rice. ARE YOU JOKING?! For $20 after tip- this is the portion of fried rice you give customers? Absolutely ridiculous. The fried rice was the most horrid thing I have ever eaten. Picture the oldest rice in your fridge. Dry. No flavor. Super greasy. It literally only tasted like oil. And that tiny cup? Not a single vegetable. Just old rice and oil. In what world does fried rice not only come that small, but not a single vegetable? It's SO clear that the owner is being cheap at every level. Heck- the fortune cookies were hard as a rock and tasted like cardboard. I understand that small businesses have to cut some corners here and there. I have owned a few my self. But cutting every corner? AND charging premium prices? This is literal theft. The owner should be ashamed of himself. This meal should cost $4.50 at a truck stop at best. Not $20

Top and Jenny Rojanisthien reopened his parents' "The Thai Restaurant", renaming it "Top Thai" in April of 2025. Google Top Thai to learn their backstory. Food quality and flavors are second to none. I had Panang Curry on Wagyu Beef this evening, with a Kirin Ichiban beer. Where can you order a Wagyu steak dinner for $28? I'm an accomplished chef and I don't know how they can afford to serve that quality for that price (see the pics). Panang is the sweetest of the curries--a combination of lemon grass, chilies, coriander, garlic, cumin, and peanut in a coconut cream, elevated with palm sugar, fish sauce, and shrimp paste. My dish was garnished in fresh Thai basil and julienned bell pepper. The Wagyu beef was pull-apart--that's no surprise! But honestly, even without the beef, this was the best Panang curry I've ever had. Look over the menu--there are so many popular South Asian food options. I'm going to try the "Larb" next time. Special thanks to "Piah" my waitress who plated the leftovers to take home to Sherrie. I said to Piah, "You forgot to charge me for the Kirin!" She said, "No, you came during happy hour...you got the 20% discount." WOW - 5 Stars !!!

5 out of 5 stars A hidden gem in the middle of "nowhere."…read more Sugar Thai is one of those places you absolutely don't expect to find in a small rural town -- but once you do, you make it a point to stop every single time you pass through Ellensburg. I've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. The must-haves:    *   Prawn Rolls with Plum Sauce: Truly amazing. The plum sauce is such a refreshing change from the usual peanut sauce -- light, bright, and perfect with the crispy rolls.    *   Sen Yai with Prawns: My go-to dish, every time. The wide noodles + the peanut red curry sauce = perfection. Comforting, flavorful, and easily one of the best versions I've had anywhere.    *   Thai Basil Salad Dressing: This is so random, but I could literally drink it from a bottle. I had it once with their lunch side salad and immediately wished I could order a glass of it. I don't know what they put in it, but it's addictive. Sugar Thai is one of the most unexpectedly excellent Thai food spots I've encountered -- not just "good for a small town," but genuinely great Thai food, period. If you're driving through the valley or highway and need a meal that hits every time, do yourself a favor and stop here. The only down side was it was $45.00 for the rolls and noodles! A little steep but it was sooooooo good!!
