I ended up choosing a flat twist style on my own with no consultation, yet was still charged the higher rate. When I calmly questioned the pricing, she became defensive, stopped mid-style, and began undoing my hair. She even swatted my hand away when I tried to remove the cape myself. Another stylist stepped in to de-escalate and at least put my hair in a bun, but I left with wasted time, no usable style, and no refund of my deposit. Additionally, she sneakily took a picture of me while the other stylist took over and posted me to her Instagram calling me a "scammer" along with other untrue statements. Truly disappointing behavior from a "professional".

Me, my two sisters, and my dad have all gone to her, and she has always done a great job. The salon is right next to the high school, which is really convenient because you can even walk there after school. She can do a lot of different things. She usually cuts and layers my hair, and she dyes my sister's hair too. For my hair, it is only around $30, which is a really good price. Brandy is super nice, and so are the other girls who work in the salon. The place also has a cute little rescue dog that is really friendly, which makes going there even more fun. They even have a little playroom for younger kids if their parents are getting their hair done. I have always had a good experience there, and I really appreciate how kind and patient she has been with my family over the years. Overall, I would give Brandy at The Avenue Salon 5/5 stars.

She's been braiding for decades, so she knows what she is doing. I came in for Senegalese twists, I have neck length natural hair, it cost me $125, with the hair included. It took her about 3.5 or 4 hours to do the twists, with a few short breaks in between, which I appreciate because I hate sitting forever. I got a ton of compliments on my hair, the twists look shiny and she did a decent job trimming the ends and making the twists looks smooth. There's another woman there who assists her, who toward the end came and helped finish. I appreciate that for the most part, she doesn't braid too tightly, however the caveat to that is that some of my twists at the nape of my neck and my "baby hair" area slipped out within a week. I had been pulling it up into different styles, which could have contributed but it's kind of embarrassing when your hair is on the floor. I think it just doesn't make sense to put twists on my baby hair in the front of my head, it just damages the edges, and slips out. But other than that, I just appreciate that I wasn't in pain the entire time. She had a Christian TV station or video playing the entire time, which I totally don't mind, and in fact, I appreciated. But toward the end it got annoying because the show shifted to some, racist, 45 supporter dialogue. Overall, I would definitely go back.

Grace has been my stylist for over a decade. I have natural hair that she has colored without…read moredamage. She is very knowledgeable about new products and hair techniques. Her clients vary in age and race. When wearing my natural style she gives me a twist set that last for two weeks if I follow her directions of care. She has also given me weaves. Her braiding technique is so good that people think it's my hair. Grace is also very patient and nice.

Because the texture is thick yet is very soft, when I go to hair salons, I get the previously described service to avoid chemical damage. When I went to the appointment, Grace washed and conditioned my hair but before she used the handheld blow dryer, she applied a chemical solution. I asked her what it was and she didn't tell me. Not wanting to cause a commotion, I just dropped it but I could tell something was not right. The chemical didn't burn but it left my hair extremely limp to the point that even after several washes, the hair hasn't returned back to its natural curl pattern/kinkiness. My hair doesn't hold a curl any more, the way it used to, prior to visiting her and it is still recovering from the damage done, as of four months later. The main thing that upsets me is that she wouldn't tell me what products she was using during the washing and conditioning process and I am certain that it was never always the same thing. A friend of mine had the same experience but again we didn't want to cause a commotion, so we have not returned.
