What a wonderful deli with a very warm and comforting atmosphere, I love looking around and seeing all the Chargers merchandise from the late 90's and early 2000's. The person at the cash register who I think might've been the owner was a sweet guy and made sure everything was very efficient, you tell him what kind of cheese you want, what bread you want, if you want a pickle on the side, and if you want your bread to be nice and toasty. Nothing special here folks. The guy at the counter was rather rude to me when I asked him to explain the difference between two sandwiches listed on the menu board, essentially I wanted to know what his interpretation of "deluxe sandwich" was, frustrated he then handed me over to his wife, or co-worker, or whatever she was, luckily for me the phone rang just in time and I had to wait while he spoke with the person on the phone, after the call concluded, he then got back to me, just rude. I'm standing in front of this guy and he puts me on hold to speak with a person on the phone because he didn't like my question. I was being punished, made to wait for my insolence. Where do I even start. This is a local spot, and Al ( the owner) is one of my favorite proprietor in SD! He's always super friendly, good for a quick chat, really good at remembering names, and brings the same energy every day! I believe his mom is the main cook, and her sandwiches are amazing! You get a side pickle with every sandwich and they mostly come toasted! I've gone well over a dozen times and will continue to go during my lunch breaks! One of my fav lunch spots in downtown SD! What an amazing experience. I was in a hurry on my way to catch the train at Santa Fe Station and needed something for my 8 hour ride. I found this sweet little deli and thought I'd give it a try. What a wonderful find. The gentleman behind the counter was so kind and helpful with my request to have a vegetarian option. He gave me great advice and suggested #17 on rye and mustard and it was perfect! Best part was that he chatted me up and laughed with me. Made me feel welcome and special. Soooo sad and happy im just now discovering this place. I would go to Market street deli in bankers hill but they are rude and move slow. I found this place on a fluke and happy i did. Its like if you buy the best sandwhich making ingredients from the grocery and made it at home. Thats exactly how i like my sandwiches...fresh ingredients! One of the most refreshing deli places I've ever had! BB's Deli was nothing short of astounding. From the moment I put a foot in the door I was greeted by the most wonderful owners I've ever met. The shop as well felt very comforting having the interests of the owners scattered around everywhere. Whilst waiting for the food, it was entertaining to look around to see all the things you can find. I took a gamble in ordering the 5th avenue sandwich as it contained mustard, and I hate mustard. However, the sandwich was so perfectly balanced with flavors that for the first time I actually loved the mustard. The prices these days on sandwiches are greatly exaggerated but at BBs Deli I considered each one of them to be at an actual fair price. If you have the time and are around, I highly recommend you get a bite at this deli. You won't be disappointed. read more

Downtown for work and randomly stopped in here for an early lunch.  Menu is your random deli menu which choice of bread and cheese and toasted or not.  I opted for a turkey and ham with lettuce, tomato, and avocado.  I picked a mac salad on the side and along with a soda.  Sandwich was good.  Macaroni salad was ok.  If you work in the area, it's a nice place to get out of the office and have a lite lunch.  About 4 or 5 tables inside to dine in.  I think it is the owner working the front end, friendly and efficient. read more

Today, finally - at 3 months pregnant and massively craving something but not quite sure what, I walked over and hit myself for not thinking of coming here sooner! Bbs deli is a small sandwich shop in downtown. I've been coming here for years. The owner always greets you with a smile and asks about your day. They serve some of the best tasting breakfast sandwiches around. Their lunchtime sandwiches are great too. I usually go for the bbs special which is turkey, bacon and avocado; I get it on sourdough. The sandwich comes with plenty of meat and is made to order. Adding chips and drink still keeps it under $10 which is nice in downtown area.
