I would like to first start off by saying that myself and my fiance were never able to have his appointment, so I cannot speak to the doctor's talents, the atmosphere of the back rooms, or the helpfulness of employees while trying to pick out glasses. I'm giving our experience here 2 stars, because my fiance is in a wheelchair and was completely unable to get into the building for his scheduled appointment. He is in a very heavy power wheelchair, and the step to enter the building was about 6 inches high. When I entered, I asked the employee at the desk if there was another entrance and there was not. This was infuriating because when I called to schedule the appointment, I specifically asked if they would be able to accommodate him in their building, stating he could not leave his chair to sit in the usual patient seats, etc. They told me they could accommodate. When I heard they didn't have another point of entry, I looked to my fiance and he immediately said "let's go home." One of the employees working followed us and asked if we could lift his chair inside, saying "they've done it before", but I'm sure it was with a person in a very lightweight wheelchair, not one that is over 400 lbs on its own, and with a user that has hardly any trunk control. The same employee chased us down outside and said she spoke to the doctor, they felt horribly about the situation, and would be willing to come to the house, but we will not be returning. My fiance said it perfectly, "how do you not know if you are wheelchair accessible or not?" and this is the sad truth that we face a lot. It is disheartening being told on the phone that you can be accommodated, and then have so many factors forgotten about. We are just lucky we own our own accessible vehicle and didn't have to rely on a car service, and that my fiance is not a bitter person, or else this experience would have been so much worse. So much planning already goes into our outings, and we had to cancel another plan to be there. My fiance hasn't made vision care a priority in a very long time, and to have this be the way we started off, wasn't the best. I will still give the business 2 stars because of the doctor's willingness to come to the house, the employee expressing her apologies and trying to accommodate, and the building inside providing a nice atmosphere. Thank you for trying, but please do better. I know the building is old, but maybe this will serve as a learning lesson to work on coming up with a solution going forward. read more

I have macular degeneration and Dr with a Retina Doctor at Uof M. I came to Bayne to get a RX for glasses and to pick out frames. The 2 stars is for the nice woman who helped me select a frame. I selected glasses and then went to set up an exam for my RX . I was told that it would be 85. And my eyes would be dilated. If I did not want that then I could pay 35. more for pictures. I said I do not need any of that. I know my problems. I had just come from U of M and my eyes were still dilated. I was told if I did not want dilation or pictures as part of my exam then I would have to get my photos from U of M. I said but I already know my problem. I only need a glasses RX. I made an appt for their optometrist with the idea I would send records. I sent my discharge DX macular degeneration and cataracts . They said that if I signed a form, I did not have to have dilation. On my way there, I stopped at lens crafter. Their optometrist would examine my eyes for 48 . I could take the RX anywhere. If I did not need or want dilation no problem. They took pictures and we discussed my cataracts . I thought I would return to Baynes with my RX and buy my frames. I called to cancel my appointment. I was told I owed 40. For late cancellation. So I decided I would not buy frames at Baynes and bought frames at Lens Crafter. read more

Dr. Bayne is the best! I tore my contact and lost part of it in my eye. I couldn't find it, and my eye got infected during the pandemic. He was so kind to open up his office and see me during the pandemic. He examined my eye, and eased my mind and gave me a script. The office was clean, everyone was so kind. Epitome of customer service and this is what one thinks of when one buys from a small business. The offsite lab had issues with my lens and had to restart the process. I had an upcoming road trip and I was worried I had to struggle with an old pair of glasses or contacts that strained my eyes. They were already in pain from a lack of proper glasses/contacts. They diligently worked with the out-of-state lab and ensured that my glasses arrived in time. You take your sight for granted until you are in a compressed situation and you want someone to care as much as you do!!!!! Will definitely be back!!!!! read more

I highly recommend Bayne Optical. I've been seeing Dr. Lowe for 15+ years and he and his staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They are always willing to go the extra mile to deliver high quality customer service. The office is clean and modern after having recently undergone a very practical remodel. Located in The Village, the entrance is on Kercheval Place so parking has always been easy to secure. They are always flexible with me for scheduling and even saw me on a Saturday they'd normally be closed to take a look at an eye problem that was bothering me that ended up being less serious than I originally thought. I had a pretty good experience here. It's a very small intimate office with three office staff plus the doctor himself. Everyone is friendly and seem well informed on the ins and outs. The selection on glasses is smaller than I'd like but you can always look else where. I only wish I could have gotten the contacts I wanted initially right away but the doctor wanted me to try another brand for stigmatism first. I could hardly see out of them so it was frustrating. However, I came back and they fixed the problem and I got my usual pair back. read more
