I'm giving our experience here 2 stars, because my fiance is in a wheelchair and was completely unable to get into the building for his scheduled appointment. He is in a very heavy power wheelchair, and the step to enter the building was about 6 inches high. When I entered, I asked the employee at the desk if there was another entrance and there was not. This was infuriating because when I called to schedule the appointment, I specifically asked if they would be able to accommodate him in their building, stating he could not leave his chair to sit in the usual patient seats, etc. They told me they could accommodate. When I heard they didn't have another point of entry, I looked to my fiance and he immediately said "let's go home." One of the employees working followed us and asked if we could lift his chair inside, saying "they've done it before", but I'm sure it was with a person in a very lightweight wheelchair, not one that is over 400 lbs on its own, and with a user that has hardly any trunk control. The same employee chased us down outside and said she spoke to the doctor, they felt horribly about the situation, and would be willing to come to the house, but we will not be returning. My fiance said it perfectly, "how do you not know if you are wheelchair accessible or not?" and this is the sad truth that we face a lot. It is disheartening being told on the phone that you can be accommodated, and then have so many factors forgotten about. We are just lucky we own our own accessible vehicle and didn't have to rely on a car service, and that my fiance is not a bitter person, or else this experience would have been so much worse. So much planning already goes into our outings, and we had to cancel another plan to be there. My fiance hasn't made vision care a priority in a very long time, and to have this be the way we started off, wasn't the best. I will still give the business 2 stars because of the doctor's willingness to come to the house, the employee expressing her apologies and trying to accommodate, and the building inside providing a nice atmosphere. Thank you for trying, but please do better. I know the building is old, but maybe this will serve as a learning lesson to work on coming up with a solution going forward.

Dr. O'Malley is truly as good as it gets in his field. He specializes in Pediatric Eye Disease,…read moreAdult Strabismus, and treatment for diseases of the eye. I first saw him 11 years ago based on a recommendation for eye surgery for strabismus. It was a great success, but it's common with strabismus that surgery will be needed again. So, here I am again. I called his office back in June, and his first available appointment was in October. When I was asked why I was calling, and explained my headaches and vision issues, they immediately got me an appointment within 2 weeks. Even though he sees adults, most of his patients are children, so his office is geared towards kids. I enjoyed watching "The Neverending Story" while I waited to see Dr. O'Malley. When I finally went in, he used a light-up ring, and an Elmo ring for me to follow with my eyes, as well as having "Toy Story 3" playing in the background. No complaints here as an adult! It's funny! Dr. O'Malley is a great doc. He's incredibly smart (hope so after 35 years!), and great sense of humor. He will definitely keep you smiling and immediately put you at ease. To give you a small symbol of his personality, he had on light orange Converse the day of my surgery. I love Converse, so that scored big points with me. On to my recent surgery....Nothing short of amazing. My eye muscles were not cooperating for him (of course) and the surgery took a little longer, but he did what he intended to do. I'm pretty sure it was a good learning experience for his assisting doctor. He always exceeds my expectations. He did a phenomenal job, and I couldn't be happier. My eye looks great, and feels pretty good too! He gave me his personal cell phone number to call him if I have any issues or concerns. Pretty cool! If you're not impressed by my experience, maybe this will: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmvkXMNNtCI Dr. O'Malley has been involved with ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital since I've been seeing him, and probably longer. He travels to China every year (if I'm not mistaken) to help with surgeries for children who are visually impaired. Truly an amazing guy. There is no doubt that Dr. O'Malley is passionate about what he does, especially when it involves children.

We drive over 30-40 minutes and pass many other ophthalmology offices to come to this place. Parking is easy and right off Jefferson - parking is free. Comfortable waiting area but I will say that it could use an updating. Very nice decor for the 90's but it could use a fresh coat of paint and updated furniture. There is a little coffee station area. Restrooms are nice and clean. Henry Ford OptimEyes is located right within the building/lobby. It is not very big but big enough to check out some glasses. Front desk staff are hit and miss - some are helpful, while others lack in customer service. The doctors/medical staff are excellent. Medical staff are kind and understanding that getting your eyes poked at is not the most fun. I see Dr. Tina Turner (the best name ever, right?!). She is a peach, intelligent, and kind. She takes her time with you and cares about your concerns.

I appreciate every minute Dr. Le spent while checking on my son's eyes. The negative part about our visit was when the doctor's assistant came to apply drops in my son's eyes and that is why I am stressing myself all day after this visit. The assistant seemed like a nice person but her communication with us including my son the minute she entered the room was very poor. She did not even smile with the kid, honestly, she dealt with him as an adult. she flipped the chair 90 degrees, she said she will lay him down, but it was too late for me to suggest another way to position my son, his position is terrible because he has a serious back issue and that killed me inside. She should have comforted my son when he panicked after the chair was tilted, instead, she ordered my wife to grab his hand. I was hurt, sad, and upset because I was worried about his back. Sad experience but after all I thank my LORD and Dr. Le for everything.
