Went in this morning to New Bern, NC office (12-2) to pick up a walker for my upcoming knee surgery…read moreon Wednesday 12-4. The young lady at the desk acted as though she had no clue as to what I was talking about, or what she was doing. Had my surgery dates entirely wrong, told I could not pick up equipment until day of discharge. Then had me being discharged the day before my surgery date! Said I could not pick up walker until 48 hours before surgery, then said not before 48 hours prior to discharge. Tried to tell me that insurance would not pay for it. When she became belligerent with me, I left without picking up anything.

New Bern Admin Office that deals with insurance and wheelchairs. Employees - Samantha and her…read moresupervisor, Jessica. The process, leading up to the insurance part, was smooth until we received a call from Samantha. I reported her snide, unprofessional behavior and call tone, to her supervisor who tried to insinuate what Samantha's intention was. That's like saying "my child would never". The manager did not address it and just basically listened so I gave up. Had to interact with Samantha a few more times, along with conference calls with Medicare, because she is not knowledgeable nor is she proactive in knowing about or finding out about insurance. She basically told us that my mother did not have out of network coverage, which we conferenced and found to be incorrect and she was corrected. She was nasty with the Medicare rep as I listened in. The next call was that my mother had an 80/20 copay for the approved wheelchair and her cost was over $1000. Conferenced Medicare again and determined that this information was also incorrect. She was also nasty with this rep as the rep told me Samantha's whole attitude changed when she found out that my mother has full coverage and the wheelchair would have no out of pocket costs. Prior to dispelling the 80/20 cost and when I questioned the copay, Samantha said to me "that's why I told you the last time that you probably should pay out of pocket at the store". Tone was unprofessional again. I feel bad for any senior or family/individual who has had to deal with Samantha and her supervisor, being unknowledgeable, and may have missed out on needed medical equipment because they manager okays Samantha's behavior and Samantha is so busy trying to be important that she can't seem to do her job. Their customer service is horrible and I thank God I am still here to support my mom as she would have initially not gotten this wheelchair if I had not been in control of the process, which was an inconvenience as it is Samantha's job however I don't play about my mom and her care/services she needs. Be professional. Be effective. Be a people person. Be knowledgeable. Carolina Home probably won't do anything about this because of the "intent " Samantha's supervisor said she had, but I know I will make sure I tell anyone to only deal with the employees of the Smithfield Store for stuff they can service (very professional), except for one who also tried to assume what Samantha's intent was. Samantha's needs to get her life together and go find employment she can do and not work with people, especially seniors who may not have support. The company might want to go back and review any and all claims put in for medical equipment to ensure the patients insurance was effectively reviewed. Shame on Carolina Home New Bern Office.

I had an appointment to receive a new CPAP machine. The woman issuing the machine was 5 minutes…read morelate when she came in from outside. I have had problems with at least 3 of my previous hoses disconnecting where the hose meets the mask multiple times every night even on new hoses and masks. I have to use duct tape to keep it from disconnecting. I tried to explain this to her but she fed me a bunch of bullshit about it being my old machine like I was some gullible idiot. She explained the features of the new mask so fast that it was hard to keep up but I didn't want to be treated like an idiot again so I kept up as best as I could and would just figure it out on my own. The staff I encountered when I arrived wasn't very friendly either. As far as I know, this is the only place in town for CPAP machines. You should avoid this place if at all possible!
