I really don't think some of Washington's state parks are as deserving as other state parks but Bay View State Park is one that has this status in a worthy way. There are beaches to stroll along as well as places to pic nic and enjoy the day. But what really makes this state park beautiful is the view. You can see Anacortes, some of the San Juan Islands, Lummi Island and perhaps even some Canadian mountains. We had a Discover Pass which we pay for and get "free" entrance for a whole year in Washington parks so if you plan on going to a lot of these parks then it's well worth getting.

If you're looking to go camping but not drive too far from the city, this is a good campground to try. The cabin had all the basic amenities. It even had a heater! There's not much to do around the campground other than walk across the street to the beach. You definitely can hear cars driving past, but it's not that bad.

It is a very quiet peaceful park, close to the beach and stunning views. Our site was easily accessible with water and electrical hookups no sewer. We are enjoying our stay here and would recommend it as a peaceful getaway.

Camped here with the family last week. A very clean and well maintained state park. Very simple site with nice beach area. It's a great site to watch sunset. Site with clear COVID safety signs. Perfect for a quick long weekend getaway.

We camped here a few years ago and had a good time. But I always wanted to stay in one of the cabins. It's a lot cheaper and has more availability in the off season. Always booked solid in the summertime. Plus I think it's more fun to stay in a cabin in the fall/winter. We had fun decorating it all christmasy. The cabins have adjustable heating in the main room and bathroom. A full sized bed and bunk beds. Nothing is included in the cabin you need to bring all your own linens and cooking utensils etc. My only complaint is the beds were really hard. So bring a mattress pad if you don't like hard beds. We stayed in cabin 6 which looked like the only ada accessible cabin that had a ramp. It also has the best view of the bay I think. Cabins 5 & 6 are the only ones with bathrooms. Cabin 5 also has a shower. Pets are allowed at $15 extra a night. Just not allowed in cabin 5 that has the shower. But the campground has a big restroom building not far from the cabins with a shower. A new addition I noticed they have a microwave and mini fridge/freezer in the cabin now. You have to cook anything else outside. So we brought a small folding table and little camp stove to cook out on the deck. But there is a fire pit with grill as well. A path right by the cabin with stairs leads down to the really nice day use area. It has pit toilets, picnic tables, and a picnic shelter. You get beautiful views of Padilla bay and surrounding areas. So worth it to check out just the day use area alone. Just down the road from the park is the padilla bay interpretive center that has a nice aquarium and exhibits. Also some nice walking trails and one leads to an awesome viewpoint overlooking the bay.

Other than the fantastic view of Padilla Bay from the beach below the campground this is a pretty typical state park. The sites are adequate. No full hookups but there is a dump station at the entrance. One interesting thing is the wild berry plants growing here. The blackberries were ripe when we stayed here and don't think I didn't sample heavily!

    Welcome to the park

Nice clean park, divided on both sides of the highway. East side (away from water) has cabins, pull ins for RV's with/with out full hook-ups and in the middle of it all is a huge grassy field for playing catch, soaking up some rays or whatever. It's really nice. The other side of the park is beach. A ton of beach access, you can see the different islands easily and they have a reader board that explains which island you are looking at. Really neat and very educational. You will need either a Discovery Pass or pay the daily rate of $10 to park. There are fire pits, picnic tables and BBQ grills. This park is very well maintained.

We camped here for memorial weekend. The staff was super friendly and the park was clean. Bathrooms are well kept and hot showers were nice. We had site 66 which is one of the more private spots but most didn't have much in the way of privacy. The crowd was great. There is a nice large area for soccer games and volleyball sets. No swimming. Padilla bay was condemned while we were there it would t have been a good place to swim anyways. Nice beach area for kites! Sunsets were beautiful! Will go again for sure!

This past Thursday, the 22nd of April and Earth Day 2021, I decided to celebrate the Earth by doing some exploring on foot in Mount Vernon. I parked my car at Mount Vernon Lions Club Roadside Park because I couldn't easily spot if/where the parking lot was for North Lions Park. After parking my car I explored south on the Skagit Riverwalk to the River Jam Memorial and the Skagit Riverwalk Park. After exploring south I made my way north and to the North Lions Park. Walking to the park I noticed a couple of sandy stretches along the Skagit River at the base of a treed area. I got all excited and hopeful that I would find access to the beach in the park. The paths I encountered in the park were dirt paths and relatively flat except at the junction with the beach patches. It took me a few tries to find the right paths that led to the beach, but I eventually found two different beach spots. I sat and relaxed at each spot for a little bit. The sun was out and the trees provided speckled shade. Flowers were starting to bloom and the Song Sparrows had fun watching me from the side of the trail and singing. The water was relatively quiet, no boaters nor big birds in the water here. Tiny minnows did swim in the shallows close to shore. I only encountered one other person while I was here (a little under an hour). The noise from the highway does carry so it is not absolutely quiet. The trails were well maintained and cleanly. Nice place to take in some nature while in Mount Vernon.

This dog park has so much potential but like so many other things, the humans ruin it. So many neglectful and ignorant dog owners. I've been coming here off and on for quite a few years and I'd say about 75% of the dog owners either ignore their dogs, or don't know how to distinguish between dog signals for play, nervousness, and aggression. I've seen people yell at their own and other's dogs for barking while they're playing, completely ignoring their play bows, wagging tails, left sided ear flicks and eye winks, zoomies, and frequent changes in play styles. No hackles raised anywhere. All of these are meta signals that play is happening, and that the growl or bark is essentially trash talking. I've seen people force their dogs to interact with other dogs when they are shaking and hiding between the owner's legs. I've seen people let their dogs h*mp other dogs even though the other dog is snarling and trying to get away. I've seen people crowd together talking so then the dogs crowd together and get nervous because they don't know the other dogs and humans well enough to trust them and then a dog fight ensues. I've seen people bring their takeout and try to eat at the table and then seem surprised that the dogs are interested. I've also seen dogs jump on that table and pee on it. I saw one guy threaten to shoot someone's dog because he didn't like how it played with his dog (no dogs were harmed) and then wait in the parking lot for that dog and their owner. I stayed with the other dog owner until that guy left. I've essentially stopped taking my dog here because of all these things. Bummer because it's a nice park and it's very close. My 8 year old dog with cancer would love to play with some dog friends with the time she has left, but it's not going to happen here anymore. Is there a friends of Bakerview Dog Park group? Would love to see some signs with QR codes or URL's that link to videos on dog play behaviors. If people are going to stare at their phones instead of observing their dogs anyways, they might as well learn something about how to be a responsible dog owner.

Skip the mega crowds, lines, and parking lot chaos with Garden Rosalyn. It's smaller and lesser known, but that's exactly why we loved it! Bonus points: it's super dog friendly! Your furry family has to stay leashed, but the staff is totally chill about your pup tagging along for a flower-filled stroll and even walking through the tulips! This garden isn't about massive fields as far as the eye can see instead its into artsy vibes, with tulips planted in fun designs and patterns. Since we went near the end of the season, some patches had called it quits for the year, but plenty of blooms were still going strong and looking fabulous. There's also a cozy little food stand in the back dishing out street food and drinks, plus random seating spots sprinkled throughout the garden.
