It's not a fun park unless you're a kid. Then it's a blast with a playground that has those weird circular htings that swing you around with your weight and other fancy playground items. But this park is more about the sunset. I was in town as a day trip and the weather was so nice that I wanted to check out the sunset. We sat there people watching on the bench as the sun started sinking over the water. People walked out down the pier and it made for really nice pictures. Once the sun went down, people left because there was a chill in the air, but until that moment, the sunset was magical. Definitely glad we hung around for twilight. read more

There are spots for cars to park on the loop to enjoy the view (and a disability parking spot). Washington Park is a true gem of a park. Situated on a peninsula just outside of Anacortes, this city-managed property features acres of stunning vistas, a playground, boat launch, and even a campground with both RV and tent sites. There's also a one-lane road that traverses the entire park, including a must-stop spot at the very top of the park, with truly stunning views over the water and the San Juan Islands. This park always feels safe, and is very clean (including the restrooms). I haven't camped here yet, but it's on my bucket list for that, too! read more

We were just out driving, putzing around and ran into this park at the end of a point. We enjoyed driving the loop around the mountain with stunning views of the water and coastline. We creeped along, slow speed and were treated to a a mother deer and her fawn! Grazing right along the road- the deer in the area pay no mind pedestrians and/or cars. Next surprise- orcas spotted! We made our way to the one pulloff and found a bunch of spectators enjoying the whales and getting photos. They were too far off for me to capture pictures, but it was exciting to spot them! We made our way to the top and again- took in the views. There was a port-o-let at the top, but according to my son, it wasn't very clean. The bathrooms at the bottom of the park (I waited for real flushies) were clean. Great views, plenty of hiking, picnicking & boating opportunities. The park was much busier at the waterfront, closer to the boat ramp. The loop wasn't busy at all and was a pleasure to explore. read more

This is a very lovely park! I've been to Anacortes dozens of times, but usually it's only a brief pause to board a ferry. This time I wanted to explore as the underwater mini-sub needed new ground to check out. The area is truly tranquil off the beaten path away from all the noise and lights that come with city life. We watched the sailboats and kids play on the beach attempting to skip stones across the water. Parking was easy and the grounds were clean. It was a very peaceful experience. My friend and I went to the edge of a metal pier and launched the mini-sub ROV. The water was not especially deep even 300 ft out it at most dropped 20 ft. That said it has a very robust sea life population with sooo many crabs! The mini-sub navigated to an area with discarded clam shells to find dozens and dozens of crabs buried in the ground their little mouths moving and eyes tracking the drone. It was an impressive sight! Eel grass provided deep rich greens around the shore line. As twilight came we packed our belongings and headed out while people built an impressive bonfire. The locals were very friendly inquiring about the sub and it's bright lights. The bathrooms needed work, because as many public restroom facilities they've been largely minimally cared for during COVID times, but that really was the only drawback. After a couple of grueling hikes nearby, I wanted a simple flat stroll. I thought Washington Park would fit the bill, but it gave me so much more. The air was much clearer today than the smoky environs over the past week, so that was a huge plus. Started at Sunset Beach and found a trail that went counter clockwise. Following it mostly along the waterline sent me on an up and down trek. Nothing strenuous, but just enough to keep it interesting. Watching the fog move along the water made things interesting too. It's only a little over 2 miles long, so it would be tough to be totally lost. Lots of intersecting trails along the way, but keeping to the waterline made things easier. Definitely a surprise. read more

Fun place for a drive through if you are into forests with great views. We enjoyed the drive and a walk down to the water.

This park is gorgeous! I randomly just discovered it and loved it! Be sure to take the loop trail to walk and enjoy the water lookout views. There is a staircase halfway into the trail that leads down to the beach with large rocks that you can sit and enjoy the views from. I even saw a cute seal swim by today and was told at times can see whales from the shore. This park is the cleanest I've seen! It offers a clean honey bucket, plenty of parking (be sure to bring your pass), and is beautiful, offering benches throughout, picnic tables, covered bbq areas, and play area. Haven't been here? WA Park is a beautiful, quiet park where the forest meets the beach. Free admittance which is great as many state parks now require admission. Close to Anacortes but feels like a world away from civilization. There's a scenic trail that runs through the park. There's a loop that goes for a couple miles through the park one may drive, and you'll want to stop frequently to see all of the amazing nature. Several locations with stairs that run down to the beach. A few picnic tables on the grass near the beach are available for relaxation and a picnic lunch. We watched sailboats and ferries go by in the sound. You can see the Salish Sea, mountains, green water, and the servicing boat go by that brings fuel and other essentials to the residents living on the islands where there are no services. The boat launch is $9 a day. Campsites are reservable on the park's website. Restrooms are decent. They aren't marked Men/Women, all are unisex. read more

Something for everyone, and free too! Grab the family, friends and visitors to the area and drive the couple mile loop through this park to take in the views of the Salish Sea, peaks in the distance and surrounding landscapes. This is the high point on Fidalgo Island, so it's really the best vantage point in the area. This is also a great place to strap on your tennis shoes and take a walk. The path definitely has some uphill parts, but the walkway is fairly even. The trees provide lots of shade from the sun. There are benches along the way that provide you a chance to take a break. There is a boat launch at the base. That area has a fee, but the rest of the park is for everyone's enjoyment. read more

Today was a great day to be on the shoreline watching the birds fly close to the water, waves roll in, and boats moving about. The gentle breeze bringing in the aroma of the ocean rounded off the experience and for a moment made me regret living soo far away from water. The park Heart was fun for all ages. All morning long, there was a steady stream of trucks, trailers, and boats brining in their catch of crabs for personal and market use. read more

This was my favorite place to visit on our visit to WA. It was just so peaceful to be there. We walked through the campsites and I wanted to camp there so badly! It was cool to be able to drive the road and have many places to stop and take in the beauty. The road is narrow and slow which is perfect to drive on, but I heard some locals on their walk talk about being annoyed at the cars and it is better to walk early in the morning when there is less traffic. We only had a day but I would love to go back and explore more. read more

You know those little gems - or in this case big gem, that not many people know about, they're kind of hidden away and they're very special? Well, that's Washington Park. It's at the end of the road that takes you to the San Juan Island ferry terminal. Go a few more blocks, maybe 5, and you'll dead end at this park. It takes up 220 acres of beautiful second growth forest, trails, beaches and headlands. There's a great park with a beach within the park where you can have a picnic, rent a cabana or take a swim. There's also camping, I've never camped here, but for the forest camping crowd it looks very inviting. My favorite areas are the trails and the beautiful rock beaches along the 2 mile drive through the open, fern filled 2nd growth forest. It's a one way road with a slow speed limit (can't remember the speed limit) with a lot of walkers. There are pull outs where you can park. Park. Get out of your car and go see the Salish Sea. It's gorgeous. You may see more than water and islands, it's possible to see whales, elephant seals, sea lions, harbor seals, Dalls dolphins and adorable sea otters. And... you could even see what we saw last weekend. A shark! Just the fin above the water right by a rocky cliff... but still, not a sight you see everyday in the PNW! If you visit this place, you'll fall in love with it. Oh, and if you visit during early morning, or dusk you'll likely see black tail deer too. They like carrots and will let you feed them. read more

Seems like a popular place for everyone to enjoy some water activities, frolick on the playground, toss a frisbee in the grass, grill some food, picnic in the park, hike around, catch a sunset or warm up by a toasty fire by the water! With that said, it is not a tacky or overused park. It still maintains a relaxing and enjoyable outdoor aesthetic. Take the scenic loop by foot or car to go find a view for the sunset, but be careful- it is popular for that, and you may not find parking if you come too late. Better to park further and walk, so then you'll also find a better, more private and more intimate viewing of the sunset. read more

We walked here from our hotel. The boat dock was very busy but we started walking along the loop drive. A little way along there were some trails down to the water. WE took one and found a rocky beach with lots of driftwood and downed trees. They were the perfect backdrop for pictures. My husband came down and picked us up in the car and we continued around the loop drive. There were many areas along the way to pull off in the car with many photo ops. There was even a bridal party showing up for a photo shoot. There is a campground located in the park too. It is worth the time to drive to all the way around and experience the very different views on each side of the park. read more

100% recommend for those who travel to Anacortes and want to do a relaxing 3 mile loop walk on a paved road. It is pretty hilly and I recommend starting backwards on the loop (clockwise). Go before 10am to avoid the car traffic, which is a nuisance in the summer especially if you're walking with dogs or large groups. If you take a trail off the paved loop, expect your walk to turn into a small hike. Lots of lookouts on the trails but be wary of cliffs if walking with dogs. read more

Every town has some nice viewpoint, beautiful park that only the locals know. It's not marked on any tourist brochures, and maybe hard to find. Only the locals know how great the view is. Washington Park is such a local gem. I first found this park 10 yrs ago when scouting around the Puget Sound area for nice photography shooting locations. On the map it's just a small park by the ocean, not even a state park. But once you arrive there, you will be surprised by its great view of ocean, forest and islands. There are lots of sightseeing points along the main loop road in the park. Each one is unique and provided different views. One is above the cliff with grassy field overlooking the islands, which is perfect for picnic. Another one has stairs all the way down to the beach. My most favorite is the one at the top of the hill. It has a very unique dead tree, and a perfect view overlooking the bay, the small port and island. At sunny days we can see all the boats sailing out of the port and waving to them. It's such a magnificent view. Because the park is only known to the locals, it's quite easy to find parking at all the sightseeing spots. And it's never crowded, which I really appreciate. If you like camping, the park also get a camping site. If you camp overnight, the sunset and sun rising view is near perfect. read more

What a gorgeous park! We picked up a sandwich and headed here to see some scenery. We stopped at the little boat launch which also had a play ground and a honey sucker for all your honey sucking needs. We sat at the picnic benches and enjoyed our sandwich, and watched the boats come and go. It was very beautiful. Had I to do it all over again, I would have driven further into the park and stopped at any number of the small handful of viewpoints that are littered throughout the drive. 100% worth a stop when in the area. Family was exploring and driving around WA's many islands. We somehow came across this one park that had a moving dock! The dock was moving up and down on top of the ocean along with the waves. It was REALLY good but had beautiful views. While taking pictures I started talking to a father and two sons who live around the corner from the park. They said we have to drive through the Loop Rd just around the corner from where we were parked. Talking to those 3 was the best decision I made for the family!!! Washington Park is basically a scenic drive which proudly presents a forest of tall trees on your left and the beautiful ocean to the right. Though the route is a one way, one lane street, whoever designed the park was clever enough to make small spaces big enough for a car to fit in so that they can stop to take pictures. There were plenty of people with their families hiking and walking their dogs. I really wished that I lived there so I can walk this wonderful trail everyday. The drive was quite long. I think it probably took us close to an hour with all the picture taking and sightseeing. It is truly incredible!! There many different picnic spots around the huge park within driving distance. The park and picnic areas were immaculate, equipped with outdoor BBQ area and even SINKS!! now THAT i have never seen. Everything was so clean and well groomed. It's really wonderful to know that there are places where people respect and clean after themselves in public places. I highly recommend anyone in WA to stop by here. Though I'm scared that if this place becomes a main tourist attraction, it might become dirty :(:( I hope that never happens. Family even thought about moving here after seeing this park. That is how amazing this place is.. Just go see for yourself and you will know where I'm coming from. read more

Spent a wonderfull afternoon in this park. Only explored a small portion of it, I'm sure, but was happy with what we explored. It seems to have a good balance of groomed, maintained, developed play areas with really cool play structures- even cool enough for some parents to play on- and wilder areas to explore. We had fun catching small fish and finding mini anemones in the little tide pools at low tide & climbing the just rugged enough little cliffs/hills. The climbing "trails" were slightly too much for the 5 year old and plenty interesting for the 11 year old. I'll upload pictures of them when I get the chance. I have to minus a star because of the bathroom situation. It is a LONG walk from the play area and the beach. Long enough to be the cause of accidents. They have nice BBQ pits and picnic tables. They even seem to leave a wheelchair spot at each picnic table, though some of them would require some off roading to get to them in a wheelchair. Beware of the wind chill factor, though. It was forcasted to be a high in the low 70's today, but this park felt more like 60, definately worth bringing a sweater. read more

Nice park lot of rift raft bathrooms are gross and uninviting price for over nights are to high would be different if they would put some money in to cleaning and updating bath rooms . Absolutely beautiful. We were shocked that you can drive through this beautiful park stop and have a picnic without paying money to park. It seems like more and more you can't go anywhere without paying for it. This park has spectacular view points and oddly friendly deer. They aren't afraid. We drove the loop and passed a baby deer within 20 feet and mama was just down the road. She didn't run from us either she just checked us out and went about her business. We didn't plan on finding a jewel like this but so glad we did. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Anacortes for years, but had only been to this park for the boat launch. This last trip we walked the loop and I think it will now be a regular thing. It's about 2 miles and if you get there before 10am, there aren't any cars along the walk. Lots of people walking dogs, but everyone seemed to be cleaning up after them....which is much appreciated! There isn't a better way to start your day with or without your dog this park is like therapy. I feel blessed to live so close to it and take advantage of it daily. Not only for exercise but I have seen baby owls, experienced the wide wing-span of the mother owl flying low in the fog just above my head (on the trails) multiple deer, almost daily, baby coyote meeting me on a trail yelping., and the fact that you can enjoy this beautiful park up until 10 a.m. w/o any traffic is a big plus. read more

We found tidepooling spots, family photo spots, wildlife, and great short hikes with unforgettable views. Definitely a must-do if you are passing through Anacortes, WA. Grabbed a couple sandwiches and cups of hot soup at the Safeway and headed to the rocky beach in Washington Park. Had a lovely meal sitting on some barnacle-covered boulders and watching sea lions play in the tide. It was so peaceful and the water was placid, with hardly any waves at the time we were there. The lookout points at the top of the hill is quite pretty as well. It's a fairly easy uphill hike, but if you're not up for the walk, it's also driveable. There's enough space on the paved road for one car and the people either walking or biking. There are fences to keep people from walking on the balds and meadow-like areas of the park, particularly in the vista point areas, though it seemed like many people ignored the signs. Just saying, don't be THAT guy. I highly recommend getting your lunch to-go and hanging out down here, enjoying the view while you dine. It's worth your food being lukewarm. read more
