Gorgeous views! Relatively easy hike. We were able to complete it with our 10-week, 2lb pup! Although she did get carried for the second half. The views are beautiful. There were a few groups sitting and enjoying the view rather than focusing on the hike. There is quite a bit of parking and it's free as well.

Down below the parking lot, this rock face is the best for sunrise!

What a lovely little viewpoint of Fidalgo Bay, maybe the best one on Fidalgo Island! Not much to say aside from what has already been said, I support. When you drive up, be careful of all the hikers on the road, especially if there is traffic coming from the other side/ up or down. It is a beautiful drive and helps create the anticipation for the view. You can drive to the top, but if you would like to park somewhere else and hike a bit, there are a few areas off the road where you can park. The one right before the top has an informative post about a famous rock climber. Once you start walking and biking around, you will find some lovely views of Fidalgo Bay and the surroundings. Not breathtaking but very serene and calming. Take a venture to hike a bit more- you will find your favorite view that way! I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Anacortes or Fidalgo Island in general. Great way to see perspective and a nice landscape of what's around. A very enjoyable experience.

Visit this place if you want to see a great view over looking part of Whidbey Island and Anna Cortes mountains. This area has many hiking trails but there is also a trail where you can drive up to the view point--it is a very steep drive with narrow roads! I wouldn't suggest taking a big caravan up there.

Though not famous for tourists, Mt. Erie is a local favorite and the view is amazing. If you go to Anacortes area, I highly suggest you to visit this hidden gem. Mt. Erie itself is hard to miss. It's the mountain with two tall antenna towers, and could be seen from road 20. The entrance, however, is from a local road Heart Lake Rd, which can be accessed from local road H Ave. The entrance is on the left of the road, and kind of easy to pass. So get ready so slow down and turn when you close the mountain. There is about two miles steep uphill drive. The road is pretty narrow so be aware of the incoming traffic. You can drive all the way to the top, which has a small parking lot, the facility for the antenna towers, and two viewpoints. In fact the road is pretty steep and long so unless you're really into fitness, you better drive. Viewpoint one is facing north east. You can access it from parking lot via some stairs to a great view of Fidalgo bay, islands and oil refinery factory. When I visited it back in 2013, the view was unobstructed. However with the tree growing, this year the view is blocked by the tops of some trees. I wonder if there is a way to trim them. Viewpoint two is by the antenna facility. It's kind of hidden so you have to pay attention. You don't want to miss this one, because the view is magnificent. The viewpoint faces south so you get a great view of the bay, ocean, and lots of islands. At any clear days, with the blue sky, deep blue name and dark green islands, the landscape is simply amazing. And did I mention that it's a popular rock climbing spot, too?

We made our way to Mount Erie, the highest point on the island, by following the curvy 2 mile road up the mountain. Our view of Anacortes and Fidalgo Bay was obstructed by cloud cover and tall pines compounded by me failing to consult my notes about the location of a better viewing point near the antenna. Duh!

The view on top of Mt. Erie is amazing. When you get to the top there is a stairway leading out to a vantage point with a photograph labeling what you are seeing. This is neat, but it's not the best part! Make sure you walk around the rest of the perimeter to see the other vantage points as they are even more impressive! This is also a fun spot for kids. The children loved running up the huge rocks and climbing from spot to spot. If we had more time we would have used some of the hiking trails as well. After we drove down the mountain we were driving near Lake Campbell when I stopped the car and told the kids to look up at the mountain. They were amazed to see the cell tower (?) that they had just been standing next to appear so small from below the mountain.

We drove up here for sunset. It is about 20 minutes from the downtown area. There was plenty of parking along the road. There is a platform for viewing or you can go off the trail. It is a beautiful view of the water and mountains under the sunset.

John Baptiste LePage (1857-1939) is the French-Canadian artist and architect who designed this unique memorial park, built from 1919 to 1921. It is now a registered national historic place. The plaque at the front of the gazebo/stage centerpiece dedicates the park in honor of Harry Leon Causland and the "brave sons of Fidalgo Guemes Decatur and Cypress Islands... who gave their lives in the Great War... 1917-1919." A second war memorial has been added with places to honor those who lost their lives in subsequent wars - World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War. Ominously, a spot sits empty on this memorial, as if to await the names from the Afghanistan 20 years war that just ended (or did it?). While the park has clearly been updated, it's quite clear what is original vs. what is new. The original portions feature different colors of stone mosaics forming 3-dimensional designs with an architectural style that favor non-angular, non-edged designs. At certain angles, they resemble Park Güell in Barcelona, i.e., the work of Antoni Gaudi. This park is lovingly well maintained. While I do not suggest driving to Anacortes just to visit this small park, I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area.

However, I find myself recommending this beach to my loved ones visiting Seattle time after time. So, I randomly did a search on Yelp for Rosario Beach and I see that I am not alone. I wanted to echo everyone's love for Rosario Beach and share its beauty. It is about a 90-minute drive north of Seattle. It is a part of Deception Pass State Park so you are required to have a Discover Pass to park in its parking lot. The parking lot is on the smaller side and in summer, the lot gets full most of the time. However, we usually find an available spot after waiting a short while as I usually see folks staying for a short while and then leaving to check out another part of Deception Pass State Park. So, even if the lot seems full, just be patient. Since it is a state park, there is a clean bathroom facility with flushing toilets. The bathroom is just a short walk away from the beach. There are a few picnic tables with BBQ grills. We see weddings, family gatherings, couples having a picnic lunch, landscape photographers, bird watchers, and many more. Such an inviting place for all. And the beach. The water is usually calm as it is a cove. And yes, the water is very cold as we live in the PNW. It sure does not stop our children from getting into the water no matter the weather. It is beautiful. I was a landscape photography hobbyist (more active in the past) and I was immediately drawn to everything this place had to offer in terms of photography opportunities. If you are into photography, you will love this place. Every year, we come here to kayak, SUP, hike, check out the tide pools, have lunch, take a nap, get tanned, and just hang out with people I love. Since I'm from Hawaii, I wish the water was warmer but I'm slowly getting used to the idea that I live in the PNW. Haha! Alooooooha! from the beautiful Rosario beach!
