Went on a beautiful summer day. The park had a lot of people but it didn't feel crowded in any way. Minimal walking to sights, views and overlooks. It's a scenic drive even if you don't get out of the car but please do.

Small hill near the Skagit valley. It does have a lot of trails. There's a parking lot at the bottom of the hill and you can take different trails to the top. There are a few parking spots at the top as well. It has a Southern and a Northern overlook - you get a great view of the Skagit valley, Skagit Bay and the tulip fields. Looks like a good place to have a nice picnic too. Nature never ceases to amaze us.

I'm not familiar with this location even though I've lived in Western Washington for a long time. I recently learned this was the largest park in Mt Vernon and had never even heard it mentioned before. My partner wanted to come here to do some mushroom hunting after a recent rainfall. I wanted to come here to do some hiking. We were both happy with this location. I'm not sure where most people normally park, but we wanted to make a day of it and parked at the bottom in an area near Eagle Crossing which seemed like a dirt spot right next to some houses, that I would not really consider a parking lot. We walked up the mountain, it is in fact a little mountain with some elevation gain, but many paths to take you up or down. We had to consult our map frequently as there are so many options. On the Bonnie and Clyde trail you can see the remnants of an old automobile. On the West Loop we encountered a bees nest under a log, a group we can upon reported that they all got stung due to this, but thanks to their warning we had no issue. On a Saturday we encountered only a handful of people and no bikes, but many of these trails are open to bikes. There are some great views at the top, including two lookouts, one looks over the city of Mt Vernon, the other looks over the more rural farming area. We witnessed some cool looking birds flying around. There was a bathroom at the top, but it was not ideal and I opted to use a much nicer porta potty on the way down. If you are not here for hiking and mushrooming you can drive to the top and enjoy these lookouts with no effort. There are picnic benches and trash cans. This was a great way to spend a day, I hope to make it back sometime to explore the other trails. We hiked about 5 miles and spent about 3 hours with many stops to look for mushrooms. We discovered many mushrooms, but maybe not the ones we were hunting.

I've been searching for a different place to go hiking during unemployment. Following just a 32 minute drive, I very easily found what is sure to be a new favorite. Little Mountain Park offers a variety of hiking/biking/walking paths which vary in challenge. Trails are well maintained and allow, for the most part, social distancing. It's not difficult to move off of the path to allow for others to pass. I'm generally a "walk first, look at the map later" kind of lady. However, I do recommend that you consult the trail map prior to and during your adventure. Trails are pretty well marked to ensure that you follow your chosen trail. Parking isn't too bad. The first gate opens rather late. There's limited parking in the designated area just before reaching the gate; I parked in the road leading up. Once past the entrance gate, there are several other parking lots. Large parking area at the top with lookout points. A friend mentioned that parking can be risky due to break-ins. Be careful.

This park is a gem! Over 10 miles of trails, beautiful views and the best part...it's FREE! There are three entrances to the trail heads. We parked at the park gate. There were a few parking spots, but it was mostly street parking. There are primitive facilities at the trail head. Make sure to check out the trail map before you get going. Pro tip: take a picture of it so you have it on your phone to reference later! They have an app you can use to track your location as well and it works in offline mode! There are some trails dedicated to walkers, some dedicated to mountain bikes, but most of mixed use. Dogs are welcome but need to stay on leash, which I recommend complying with due to the mountain bikers. A few we ran into didn't have bells and snuck up on us! The trails are well maked and maintained. The trail names are fun and lead you around the park. There are better facilities once you reach the top! There are picnic tables overlooking the view. (You can also drive to the top). Rain or shine, this is a great excuse to get outdoors!

Hey oh! This little gem was the perfect hang out for our family. We walked multiple trails and had an excellent time. Everything is well cared for and great for all skill levels. We finished off our hike, finding all the mushrooms. So fun, we'll be back!

We love coming here. It's a great workout especially if you're pushing a jogging stroller all the way up! There are many little trails off the big trails. There are port-a-potties available for restroom use. The views are absolutely stunning. Drivers don't follow the speed limit so definitely stay alert and keep your littles close to you. I

Gorgeous views from the top, accessible by a narrow winding 1.5 mile road and numerous trails. Trailheads seem to be marked, but try to bring a map, especially for the hiking trails. Not all seem to be well used, so a few times I feared I might be getting lost. The information board at the parking lot lists how strenuous each trail is. I didn't look first, and quickly discovered that my trail was indeed a workout. There are also multi-use trails for bikes, but I didn't use those so I can't comment.

This past Thursday, the 22nd of April and Earth Day 2021, I decided to celebrate the Earth by doing some exploring on foot in Mount Vernon. I parked my car at Mount Vernon Lions Club Roadside Park because I couldn't easily spot if/where the parking lot was for North Lions Park. After parking my car I explored south on the Skagit Riverwalk to the River Jam Memorial and the Skagit Riverwalk Park. After exploring south I made my way north and to the North Lions Park. Walking to the park I noticed a couple of sandy stretches along the Skagit River at the base of a treed area. I got all excited and hopeful that I would find access to the beach in the park. The paths I encountered in the park were dirt paths and relatively flat except at the junction with the beach patches. It took me a few tries to find the right paths that led to the beach, but I eventually found two different beach spots. I sat and relaxed at each spot for a little bit. The sun was out and the trees provided speckled shade. Flowers were starting to bloom and the Song Sparrows had fun watching me from the side of the trail and singing. The water was relatively quiet, no boaters nor big birds in the water here. Tiny minnows did swim in the shallows close to shore. I only encountered one other person while I was here (a little under an hour). The noise from the highway does carry so it is not absolutely quiet. The trails were well maintained and cleanly. Nice place to take in some nature while in Mount Vernon.

This dog park has so much potential but like so many other things, the humans ruin it. So many neglectful and ignorant dog owners. I've been coming here off and on for quite a few years and I'd say about 75% of the dog owners either ignore their dogs, or don't know how to distinguish between dog signals for play, nervousness, and aggression. I've seen people yell at their own and other's dogs for barking while they're playing, completely ignoring their play bows, wagging tails, left sided ear flicks and eye winks, zoomies, and frequent changes in play styles. No hackles raised anywhere. All of these are meta signals that play is happening, and that the growl or bark is essentially trash talking. I've seen people force their dogs to interact with other dogs when they are shaking and hiding between the owner's legs. I've seen people let their dogs h*mp other dogs even though the other dog is snarling and trying to get away. I've seen people crowd together talking so then the dogs crowd together and get nervous because they don't know the other dogs and humans well enough to trust them and then a dog fight ensues. I've seen people bring their takeout and try to eat at the table and then seem surprised that the dogs are interested. I've also seen dogs jump on that table and pee on it. I saw one guy threaten to shoot someone's dog because he didn't like how it played with his dog (no dogs were harmed) and then wait in the parking lot for that dog and their owner. I stayed with the other dog owner until that guy left. I've essentially stopped taking my dog here because of all these things. Bummer because it's a nice park and it's very close. My 8 year old dog with cancer would love to play with some dog friends with the time she has left, but it's not going to happen here anymore. Is there a friends of Bakerview Dog Park group? Would love to see some signs with QR codes or URL's that link to videos on dog play behaviors. If people are going to stare at their phones instead of observing their dogs anyways, they might as well learn something about how to be a responsible dog owner.

Skip the mega crowds, lines, and parking lot chaos with Garden Rosalyn. It's smaller and lesser known, but that's exactly why we loved it! Bonus points: it's super dog friendly! Your furry family has to stay leashed, but the staff is totally chill about your pup tagging along for a flower-filled stroll and even walking through the tulips! This garden isn't about massive fields as far as the eye can see instead its into artsy vibes, with tulips planted in fun designs and patterns. Since we went near the end of the season, some patches had called it quits for the year, but plenty of blooms were still going strong and looking fabulous. There's also a cozy little food stand in the back dishing out street food and drinks, plus random seating spots sprinkled throughout the garden. Perfect for grabbing a snack or break and soaking in the colors surrounding you. The geese here are a whole thing. Like tulip garden security pigeons with attitude.
