One month in to the new Summit Everett so it's time for a review!…read more First off I'd like to say that I am very happy Summit Everett is here and I'll be continuing my membership with them for the foreseeable future. Opening a rock gym in downtown Everett is not an easy venture and it's very cool that it exists. The facility is very nice. It is clean, well lit, in good order and with 24hr access it's got all the right stuff to make a gym attractive. Whether you are climbing or using the regular weights and treadmill its a very good space. Since their move they transitioned to just bouldering from both bouldering and top rope and I think this was a good move. It makes the walls in the gym more accessible to everyone and can introduce more people to climbing. I won't call bouldering an intro to top rope like some folks but it is easier to get into and I think this switch was the right move. So what could be improved? A quick note about me so you can tell where I'm coming from. I'm at Summit for the rock walls and haven't used the weights or tread mills. I'm a climber since I was young and have an ankle handicap since birth. This means I'm about a 5.12-/v5 climber and won't excel too much beyond that. Including Summit Everett I have climbed four gyms in the PNW both bouldering and ropes and those skill levels are pretty consistent. At Summit I cap at a v4, somewhere between their yellow and blue bands. Summit sets hard. This makes it a very difficult place for beginners. The Vermin scale has a lot of wiggle room so it isn't that they aren't setting according to scale it's that within the scale they set about as hard as they can. You will not find a VB route here. If you are coming from anywhere else in the area kick your climbing level down a notch. My experience is that Summit is also largely a test of physical prowess. Technique and problems solving are not as stressed. The routes meet their difficulty level based on whether you have the strength for a dynamic movement, can grip a hold, or have the reach to progress. I have yet to fail to complete a route at because I didn't think through it correctly or didn't have the technique. These challenges are as important to a skilled climber as the raw physical. Lastly, more wall space. The more options to climb the better. The weekly updates are good but more options would be awesome. This is a big ask for the recently reopened gym so I realize this likely isn't something that can be quickly fixed but I wanted to put it out there because I think it would be very beneficial. Overall, I'm very happy that. Summit Everett is here and I'm looking forward to my time there and seeing the gym grow! Thank you Summit!

In 6 months I have seen improvement and find myself doing things that I thought would take me years to learn. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, if you ever have a question they're more than happy to help. I also didn't expect my child to love it. Kids can be fickle when it comes to their interest but after one round of classes my 6 year old is getting over her fear of heights and has more noticeable self confidence when it comes to climbs. Tl:dr Friendly staff, great climbs, fairly inexpensive, and great for families. The bad reviews are not an accurate representation of what we have experienced in the almost 7 months we have been coming to Summit.

There were a few people in front of us so we had to wait but you could tell they were really chill and pleasant to each customer. They were patient with organizing my group with waivers, Groupons and finding our correct shoe size. They were great with explaining the safety and rules of the bloudering area too. Starting off on the V0's (easy) to V8's (difficult) there was a variety of different routes to try. It was nice for beginners that there were several V0 and V0+ routes scattered around the gym area - to keep things interesting and allow us to explore the floor. Each path had it's own personality - some were easy and others made you think before you act. It was an awesome workout not only for our bodies but our problem-solving too! There are washrooms, lockers (bring your own lock), a water fountain, cubbies, and a little lounge area with a mini drink machine ($1.50 for a cup). In the end, our arms were tired and our fingertips were tender, but we left with a feeling of accomplishment and appreciation for all climbers! Learning to climb better will be my next project - Thanks Project Climbing for the first climb!

This is the first gym out of Austin (Austin Bouldering project) I've climbed at, and I can see how…read morespoiled I am, but all things considered this is a great facility still. It's on the small to medium size and is a brand new, clean gym. There's a good variety of angled walls, from overhung cave areas to vertical slab walls with a good variety of difficulty levels from V0-V7+. Holds are clean and problem settings are decent with individual routes being pretty easy to follow thanks to color coded holds and each route is labeled with a taped grade on the beginning hold. It seems new routes are set by color weekly, with all orange routes being reset one week, and yellow problems being reset the next, for example, so it makes it easy to locate new problems for frequent members and easy to know which will be coming down soon if you're trying to finish a problem before it's gone. My main gripe however, is the lack of enough down climb holds. There are plenty of large gaps with no down climb holds nearby at the top of routes and when you're climbing beyond V1-V2 levels with big, good holds, downclimbing after an exhaustive 100% effort can be a chore at best or a bit dangerous at worst with no easy way to get down. Coupled with the fact I wasn't made to read anything or sign a waiver, this seems like a liability for the gym. I also wish the top of the wall surface was consistent. Some areas have a flat top edge while others have a narrow lip that you can more easily grip around, and it's harder to grab the flat edge when expecting the lip. There are approximately 6-7 routes for sport climbing with auto belay machines, which would be fun, but probably not enough variety to keep strictly sport climbers satisfied. I wish there were more volumes on the wall, to add more wall surface variety, and the bathrooms/locker room areas are small, but adequate, and lockers are free to use. People, employees and climbers are friendly and helpful. Overall it's a great gym.

Even though it was a late-season course with no snow, the guides improvised creative demonstrations for skills like snow anchors so we didn't miss out on the learning. They were patient, kind, funny, and extremely knowledgeable, creating a supportive learning environment and providing clear, helpful feedback. By the end of the course I felt confident in my ability to be a safe member of a rope team. I would 100% recommend this course to anyone interested in mountaineering.

The guides created a very safe and supportive environment while still pushing us to learn and grow. I came away with practical glacier travel and crevasse rescue skills, and a much deeper confidence in the mountains. Everything from logistics to instruction was top-notch. Highly recommend for anyone serious about alpine climbing.

The bathroom was accessible and clean. From there, the trail itself is mostly gravel with some uphill portions. Getting up to the main set of buildings was a workout for me, propelling, and another person pushing me. There are two paths, one gravel and the other semi-paved with concrete ridges. I would not recommend getting up there without help in a wheelchair, but it was certainly possible, and worth it in my opinion. The buildings are super cool. The area is surrounded by nature and mountains. We turned back after getting tired, but will absolutely come back better prepared to see some more stuff.

We went by soke run down buildings, one that was more of a food preparation area and they once grew fruit trees there for the facility. The fruit trees can still be seen and at the time we were here were bearing fruit! We also went to some old barns where livestock was once kept for the hospital. Those buildings were very impressive and a bit creepy. To add to that someone in our group went over some of the experiments that went on here as well as possible mishaps that they pulled up online. That definitely added to the creepy vibe. But still it was a very pleasant stroll as we also was in a nice field and encountered a babbling brook. It was a great outing with great company! I'd love to explore the grounds even more as I have a feeling some of the buildings I didn't get to see.
