First impression-home and not some facility. The lobby is well decorated and just feels like a place to be. The rooms at Bay Lake are top notch. Housekeeping works tirelessly to maintain a clean and home like aesthetic which residents earned and deserved. All staff are caring and very attentive to the needs of residents. They provide fun and engaging activities like bingo, visiting car shows and paint and sips. In addition to the wonderful activities, they have a whole room for study at RUI University that allows residents to continue their life long passion for learning. All classes are interesting and engaging. The culinary team is awesome. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are always well prepared and delicious. They also take pets and have a program called Leash on Life where residents can be assisted with the daily tasks of owning a pet. This allows the resident to focus on companionship and fun with their pet. Located on Shore drive in Virginia Beach families have a plethora of attractions and places to visit while visiting a loved one. You can smell the Chesapeake Bay in the air from the open air terraces. Bay Lake's Life Enrichment department offers an extensive variety of activities on the property and in the community, there is always something new and exciting to do! I have just began to research assisted living places in Virginia Beach for my mom that lives out of town. I stopped by Bay Lake and was very excited to see the residents enjoying their afternoon at the community. Some were playing cards in the lobby, another was joking around with the receptionist and others were upstairs taking a painting course! It was really neat to see how these people have made this place home. The apartments were very clean, as was the whole community, and I got to meet a few of the housekeepers and nurses on my tour too. I didn't know that assisted living facilities could be so bright and joyful and this will definitely be my choice if Mom ends up coming to Virginia. Thank you for your time. read more

Called and made an appointment with Cameron Gwaltney for a tour, he was more than happy to help. As we toured the facility I couldn't help but think this place was perfect for my mom. Everyone was just so friendly and quick to welcome us. Now, my mom is quite the foodie, so the fact that they have an executive chef is awesome. Upscale food, friendly environment, and such a clean facility. My wife and I were concerned about the fact that mom is still thirsty for knowledge but she's not as mobile as before. Luckily, Mr. Gwaltney told us about a program called RUI University where they bring the classroom to the residents...The point I'm trying to make is not only did Bay Lake meet my expectations, but they exceeded them. read more

As a current employee at Bay lake, for the short time I've been working here compared to everyone else, I can say that Bay lake is a welcoming second home. From the minute you step into the doors your presence will be noticed whether it be by the staff, directors, guest, or even the residents themselves! The nurses here go out their way to make sure the residents are entertained with movies, gardening, mini golf, and so many more activities. Bay Lake is an Awesome Facility! What makes it so great is the dedicated & compassionate staff. The Concierge, Housekeeping, Activity Director, Facility Maintenance, Nursing staff & Administrators are All Wonderful, Friendly & Helpful Folks! The Kitchen & waitstaff are also superb! I have been at Bay Lake now for 3 months and I can say I truly enjoy the resident's and families. It is such a warm and welcoming place. New resident's and staff members are welcomed with open arms. They assign a staff ambassador for all new residents upon moving into the community. You essentially get your own personal tour guide for your first few days while you get acclimated. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and presentable this community was when I visited. I have been to a few others over the years and had developed a bad idea of what retirement homes can be. This one blew those prior notions out of the water. It looks like a mansion inside and out. The grand stair case is very classy. My grandmother lived here and the quality of care was excellent. She loved it there. More recently I am working with the leadership on a community-related project and they are engaging, authentic, caring individuals.
