I had been researching a senior apartment for my grandmother for quite sometime. Rebekah was very…read morepatient & when I was finally ready to move her, she worked with us. My grandmother was hesitant because she is used to her home, but she needed to downsize and be able to socialize. Shawn (Director) put my grandmother at ease by telling her that she had 30 days to change her mind. After that, she went ahead and moved in. I loved this place for her. It's not that diverse, but the people are nice for the most part. My grandmother just didn't like it. She didn't really give it a chance because at week 2, she was ready to leave. I was sad about it, but I couldn't force her to stay. Shawn understood and we moved her out. The only issue I had was after we moved her out, they took $3000+ out of her account that they weren't supposed to. That caused an issue with her bills & I brought that to Shawn's attention immediately. She apologized & said she'd send a paper check. It's costs A LOT to live here, but they have independent living and assisted living available. They are clean, they have activities, they have 1 meal daily included in the monthly rent, and it's a the staff is friendly for the most part. I wish she would've stayed.

I experienced for the first time having to research for my husband an assistant living community, I…read morewas referred to Commonwealth Senior Living by AJ of Caring. Com. I obtained a tour of the community very quickly and my daughter and I visited Commonwealth and were pleased to find that it is a beautiful place safe and person-centered, very nice, and spacious, and has every accommodation that anyone could ever want and need. I was greatly impressed. We were impressed with Erika Cruz, who assisted us with a tour. I would say the individuals appeared to be very comfortable, active and pleased. I was pleasantly surprised that the Commonwealth was the type of place where you could live with dignity and respect while still maintaining a good quality of life, Commonwealth offers a variety of activities in the form of computer accommodations, library, movies, fine dining, a spacious community area where everyone can commune and enjoy football, etc. just a great place for anybody to reside. my first time meeting the Commonwealth staff; the professionalism is top tier. The Commonwealth offers and maintains optimal care and a high quality of life and will be very happy there. I recommend the Commonwealth as a viable option when selecting an assistant living community. I wasn't able to take advantage of what was offered. Sadly, my husband had another idea. However, I know the option is always available. I thank everyone who made our experience calm and pleasant as opposed to being a task. Thank you.

Staff always were helpful with anything that was needed they were very professional there is a few people I want to give a huge thank you to but I don't know their names. The maintenance man always had a smile on his face and knew about the residents he always talked about their day and knew what their interests were, a sweet woman from nursing staff always happy and upbeat always talking about football and baseball which were two of his favorite things one day I came in later in the evening she was in his room standing next to him watching the baseball game their teams were playing each other and they were cutting up and trash talking each other like two friends, that experience alone warmed my heart and will be one I can cherish forever, lastly was the gentleman from the kitchen always out during mealtimes asking if they enjoyed their meals, if they needed or wanted anything more, and just sitting at the tables with them just listening while they talked. I have never had a bad experience while visiting, it makes me happy knowing that staff really loves the residents.

**WARNING-READ THIS BEFORE MOVING YOUR LOVED ONE TO BAY LAKE**…read more After a promising start, things did not end up going well for my Dad or our family at Bay Lake. After Dad's dementia got worse and he couldn't stay in Assisted Living with my Mom, we made the decision to shift him to the Bay Lake Inspiritas (Memory care unit). This was a hard decision, but we were assured that Bay Lake had the ability to provide proper dementia care for him and to maintain dignity and well-being until the very end. It quickly became apparent that there was trouble at Bay Lake. I'll let the Virginia Department Social Services report tell how the story ends. Read the report in the attached pictures, then go to the Virginia DSS website to look at the rest of the track record. In the end, there were red flags along the way that indicated my 83 year-old Marine veteran father with dementia was not being treated with dignity and his well-being was not the top priority of the Bay Lake. But I wanted to believe that for $9000+ per month (yes...over $108,000 per year) it was money well spent for the Father who spared nothing in caring for his own family. I'm sorry to have let him down and I regret allowing Bay Lake's glossy advertisements and management convince me that they were doing what they said they could do. Don't make the same mistake. In the end, with the help of an Elder Care Consultant, and no help from Bay Lake, we found a place for him and discovered what we thought we would be getting for my Dad at Bay Lake.
