Something was biting me ALL night long, both nights…read more The floors are extremely thin and I was up listening to the people upstairs walk, run and crash (off their bed?..) all night. (Luckily just the first night - but the mites/fleas got me both nights.) The lobby, elevators and hallways smell AWFULLY - I mean it just absolutely REEKS - of artificial, stifling air freshener, AND WITH A BIG CHEAP SCENTED CANDLE BURNING ON TOP OF THAT - and the rooms smell of that gross Southern gas station mop cleaner. When I asked for a different room because the first smelled like sewage, the front desk lady stared at me like she had no idea what to do. When I reexplained the situation, she claimed there were no rooms available because they were fully booked. When I explained that I KNOW that unless I was the very LAST person to check in, there were rooms available that she could move around, she grudgingly changed the room. When that one reeked too, she again lied and said there were no rooms; when it was clear I wasn't going back to the smelly room, she magically found another. As another reviewer stated, the bathroom door design is bad, such that the door doesn't fully open and you have to crawl over the toilet to get to the sink. The toilet didn't flush well. The towels had all this gross long black fake hair on them and they, and the sheets, smelled of cologne/perfume. Though they advertise the rooms as having kitchens, there's no stove or oven; it's just a larger fridge, a small kitchen sink, some dishes and towels (all dirty and gross - bring your own); paper towels and counter space. And a microwave. The poolside rooms are loud with kids yelling till 11 pm. The good thing was the fridge actually got cold; and the A/C was only mildewy for the first 5 minutes and after that smelled fine. The mites in the bed and ungodly stink of the lobby were deal killers. Strongly recommend staying somewhere else if you're at all sensitive to either one.

The staff was very friendly, spacious room, extensive breakfast included, nice common areas. The…read moreroom was rough, though. Peeling paint and mildew in the bathroom was off putting and surprising since the hotel seems pretty new. And the bathroom was terribly designed with the door hitting the toilet. We will probably find a different place to stay next time we are in the area.

After flying in to Houston we stayed here for the night before we headed to the Port of Galveston…read more It was a great spot to stop for the night, it was in the middle, cheaper than either big cities and easy to get to. Our room was clean and comfortable, we did ask for additional bedding for the trundle bed and got a ripped blanket. The front desk also seemed irritated we were asking. It was very convenient to have the outlet mall and Buc-ee's within walking distance. The included breakfast was nice. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

Additionally there's a wooden fence behind the hotel that makes you walk further to get around it. There's only a Texas Roadhouse restaurant close by that's got bad yelp reviews so I didn't try it. There's an adjacent factory outlet but all the fast food options in the food court also had pretty bad reviews. We had our driver take us over to Buc-ee's and we did like the food there. So the hotel location is not great for a family like ours with 2 nights and no rental car. We flew in from CA to Hobby. The hotel itself had an odd front door that was so nondescript that I wasn't sure we had pulled up to the entrance. It's plain glass unmarked entrance. It looked like a side door. But I went in to find the front desk and checked in. The woman was nice and since I'm platinum I received a gift bag which was a nice perk with some snacks. We did not like the breakfast food at all. The sausage is that awful turkey sausage. They also had a strange ground sausage that looked like animal food in pellets. I would much rather have a jimmy dean breakfast sandwich. And the eggs always are dehydrated mixed with water and nasty. The room itself was clean. It had 2 queens and a sofa with twin trundle bed for the kids. The pool is another story. Texas is hot and humid and a good swimming pool is important. This "pool" was smaller than our hotel room. A real disappointment I would probably not stay at this location again.

They even gave a meh Chinese Buffet next door that we hit up TWICE because it's popular with kidlets. The defunct mall also has a Sears still going and a cool comic book store. Best of all it has a cheap movie theatre. Score! I know some folks give out five star reviews like Kardashians take selfies. I try and make sure that 5 stars from me means something, especially if it's something you are going to spend a chunk of money on...like a hotel. Now to preface this: Last year we stayed at a dreadful place in Kemah that, to this day, gives me nightmares. This time I went out of my way to try to find the best deal on a great hotel. The reason this one popped up was because Texas City is strategically placed between Houston & Galveston and most people want to spend a bunch to stay near the water. Newsflash: Most of those hotels are stuff Gordon Ramsay's Hotel Hell are made of. Being close to the not-so-blue waters of Galveston typically means mold, smelly and expensive. I've had enough of paying inflated prices for places to sleep. Texas City may not be on water but it's a much better value. The hotel is weirdly situated next to defunct Ryan's Buffett and The Mall of the Mainland, which used to be a mall and is now better suited for you to hide in if the plot of Walking Dead takes place. It's HUGE BTW. The hotel itself is small, having three floors and one ice maker, a guest laundry room and a very small indoor pool (a pivotal thing for my family) and business center. We were greeted with friendly employees and a personalized chocolate bar with my name on it (nice touch). Now...I'm used to cleaning my hotel rooms before I use them, as I'm a weird one when it comes to sleeping in foreign places, but to my amazement the room was SPOTLESS. I'm talking you could eat off the bathroom floor (a.k.a. Terri's New Years spot) kind of clean. All the things I had requested (and was prepared to gripe about not getting) were there! Extra pillows, blankets, conditioner...it was all there! They put a hairdryer in the closet in case you go looking. We stayed for 4 nights and each day we returned to a perfectly clean room. We left tips each day and the staff always left a sweet card of thanks. The a/c was a freaking champ! After being out in 100 degree weather we returned to a perfect 68 degree room (I turned it down more at night) and chilly drinks thanks to the mini fridge. There's a microwave downstairs but not in room. You get HBO and a bunch of cable channels. The breakfast was better than expected. Real eggs, cheese omelets, bacon AND sausage, a waffle maker and cereal, fruit, coffee....it's all there. There's only one waffle maker so there's a bit of a wait there. Even though they have a 9 am close time for breakfast each day the sweet lady who refilled things made sure everyone who came down got food, even if they arrived at 9:05. I can tell you this hotel on my stay was quiet. The last night we stayed more people started arriving and it did start to get louder, but nothing that made me insane. We stayed during the week because it's cheaper. It's also less crowded. Free WiFi (choose the free option when you arrive, and be careful because there's a $5 a day option...it's the same speed) free parking and free breakfast at $80 a night make this an easy five stars. The employees were all impeccable and again...it's hard to find some place this clean. We will return!

The map had us exit about 15 minutes past the place. When we back tracked and found it the front desk person said this location was so new the map directions were not correct. It was super late when we arrived (parking lot was well lit) and the check in process was quick and easy. We went straight to the room, it was clean clean and smelled good. Lost one star: After we got settled and ready for bed, wanted to watch some tv, relax and zone out, well that didn't happen because the TV was not working. The message on TV said weak or no signal. We tried for a little bit to get it to work but couldn't get a signal. So no tv watching that night. The only reason we didn't call the front desk is that it was already very late. The complementary breakfast had a good variety. The area was very clean. Food options: Juice dispenser, small fridge with cold drink options like milk and water, also had yogurt and boiled eggs. The hot items, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bread and a toaster. Next up the TX waffle maker (two of them). On the other side of the room, there were boxes of cereal, breakfast bars, and prepackaged/sealed cups of fruit. I don't drink coffee but i'm sure they have an area for that, but no pictures of that area. Plenty of seating options in the lobby right outside the breakfast area and they had two high chairs available. Hotel was decorated for Christmas. There is an indoor pool, we didn't use it but it looked very pretty and had towels there for pool use. The drive to Galveston was super quick and easy about 20 minutes or less. This could definitely be my go to place to stay when cruising out of Galveston. This visit was basically just a bed to sleep in and food in the morning. Next time I'll be more prepared to enjoy the pool and hopefully a working tv and not pass the exit off the highway.

Negatives: housekeeping was poor; I had two soaps and no shampoo in my shower. Workout room is even more lame than most mid-tier Marriott properties. No pool or hot tub on the property. Breakfast was poor. The wi-fi didn't work the entire stay (couldn't get DNS), and the front desk staff could not be less interested in helping. (They gave me a phone number to call, but sorry, I don't want to spend an hour on the phone getting your wi-fi fixed, that's your job.) Bottom line, it is one of the most affordable Marriott properties in the area, but the non-working wi-fi is a deal-breaker, so I probably would stay somewhere else in the future just to have wi-fi. (They use Ruckus wi-fi equipment on site, which is known to be terrible.)
