All the food was flavorful and not too heavy; we had the nem sticks, prawn pancakes, beef pho, beef and pork skewers, durian pudding, and the banana fritters (and the cocktails were tasty as well). Four stars because it wasn't gourmet level food and there was a small confusion during the service--but I would definitely come here again: good food, convenient, well priced, good service!

Called over the waiter who was unapologetic, offered to cook them more and reserve it to me (lol) to which I asked for the menu to order something else. Options include the classic Vietnamese Pork Roll (of course), Cha Cha Chicken, peeking duck, beef, vege delight, Roast pork with crackling. On entering I was greeted enthusiastically by one of the staff and ask if it was my first time here. He spoke with conviction about the menu and the options. Definetly one point of difference from standard pork roll spots where they usually shout at you "what you want, what you want?". I decided to go with the beef roll. The beef roll contained succulent beef eye fillet with your standard salad options and chilli. I was given the option of the white or whole meal roll. I went for whole meal. The roll was really good and was packed with salad and plenty of meat. They sell the roll for $10 which is a little steep considering that the roll was smaller then the standard bread rolls most bakeries sell. Did taste great though and other options looked really good. Just feel they need to adjust the price down.

The duck meat was overly oily and literally dripped grease onto the table. And the chicken meat was dry and lacked flavour. Not sure what happened in the space of mere weeks, but they're now the same as your local banh mi bakery - just a lot more expensive. There is certainly no differentiator anymore. Such a pity as this place used to be fantastic.

I love spring rolls (guess they're called rice paper rolls here)! They are one of my favorite foods…read moreto eat and I could probably eat like twenty of them in one sitting if i'm hungry enough. I walked around the food court here (which i found impressive with lots of good looking options) and the spring roll display grabbed my attention. Instead of just traditional spring rolls, this place had a lot of more modern combinations, incorporating ingredients like avocado and barramundi fish. But they also had the more traditional kinds like pork and shrimp. And tofu rolls for the vegetarians. I ordered a prawn roll, and a avocado + barramundi roll. The cashier said it was a better deal to do the three roll combo, but i was worried it would be too much food (i should of done the three roll combo lol). The cashier recommended I get the hoisin sauce (i can't remember if it cost a little extra). The spring rolls were pretty decent. They obviously didn't taste freshly made since they have been sitting out pre-made. The prawn one was good. The barramundi one i liked too - it's like a white fish. The hoisin sauce was NOT hoisin sauce. At least not the kind I know. It was more of like a sweet and sour sauce in a tube. I like the traditional peanut sauce, so i wish they had that instead. This place does more than just spring rolls! They also do banh mi and other Vietnamese food! I liked their concept and the presentation is they booth was fun (totally worked on me!). The cashier was friendly and patient. And they take credit card. I would totally come back to eat here!

So.9 is a new Vietnamese place that opened on Danks Street in Waterloo…read more Their theme is a shared menu, and they have different stations for all types of Vietnamese food like pho, spring rolls, pancakes, salads, and the like. The decor is pretty nice and it totally looks the part, it's just too bad the food fails to deliver. Came with 3 others and we got Vietnamese milk coffee, pho, Vietnamese pancakes, and salads. The coffee was alright, it was just OK at best. The pho was pretty disappointing to say the least, the broth tasted like they used a pho stock cube instead of real bones but I can't verify. The pancakes (banh xeo) had bean sprouts that should have been slightly cooked but were just raw A lot of the food looked the part, it just didn't taste the part. Also for the price you pay at $14+ for pho or $15+ for banh xeo...just go to Marrickville or Cabramatta instead.

We learn that SO9 translates to number 9 in Vietnamese. The number 9 is a lucky number and reflects the luck involved in the journey of the restauranteurs, from Vietnam go opening this restaurant. SO9 has an inspired existence, presenting some delicious Vietnamese street food and traditional dishes.Decor wise, the restaurant has an industrial modern feel that is common in many restaurants these days, with neon signage, polished concrete floors and exposed brick which is softened by lighter wooden toned furniture and a number of indoor plants. With an open kitchen allowing for the lovely aromas of the food to fill the restaurant. The staff are also friendly and attentive, we felt very welcome here.SO9 is also a licensed venue with their bar serving a range of beer, cider and wine. There's a range of popular Vietnamese non-alcoholic drinks including sugar cane juice, as well as coffee and milk tea. There are also a bunch of exotic slushies, making for a tough choice. Unfortunately they were out of the coconut, guava and lime. The consolation of coconut lychee and pineapple was very good, there is also the option of boozing these up with vodka or white rum.The assorted rice paper rolls at $15 were fantastic, sizeable, with fresh ingredients and plenty of flavour. In fact, the best we have come across, this was a great start to the meal. The salt and pepper cuttlefish at $15 is also a great snacking option, especially with the dipping sauce, very moreish and we polished this off in no time. The Vietnamese savoury crisp pancakes bahn xeo is always a favourite of ours. We were interested in the crab bahn xeo, but not to be this time, unfortunately this too a popular item that was sold out. In turn the pork and prawn Bahn Xeo was what we had in this visit and at a price of $17, it was certainly generous as it was huge, served in traditional manner with mint, and lettuce to wrap it up and a sweet dipping sauce for added flavour. With their bahn mi baguettes at only $2 made fresh a serve of this a must and was well utilised mopping up the extremely tasty sauce that came with the roast duck $27. This roast duck was an absolute highlight, a beautiful sweet sauce and moist meat, served atop white rice.We also decided on an interesting and tasty stir fry rice noodle dish with Crab, pork, prawn roe. $25 Bahn pho xao cua rieu, flavoursome and very colourful. This is a high quality Vietnamese option in the Danks Street dining precinct of Waterloo, a definite option for a quck bahn mi lunch, to get a good Vietnamese meal or on cold winter nights, we will return to try some of the soup on the menu.
