We did walk over a mile from the station to find some wine to purchase and we did notice a family (who was also on the train) schlep down to the same street to find a McDonald's. Gayle and I were happy to get back on the train, relax, and wait for it to leave the station. That didn't occur until after bed time. I really like Edmonton, but this isn't the part of town to experience what it has to offer. Admiring its skyline from a distance was a small comfort.

I like that it's connected to Commerce Place and the pedway system to various buildings and it doesn't seem as busy at the Churchill station. There was a coffee shop at the top of the escalator but I believe it's closed now, and not sure if they will reopen. If not, the Tim Hortons in Commerce Place is not a far walk but it is nice to see a local independent place operate here. The escalator was working and a hub for where I need to go.

Much like Churchill the stairwells are sometimes filthy but the station itself isn't that bad. They do have washrooms here as well but I have never used them so I can't attest to their cleanliness. I haven't ran into any intoxicated or shady characters here like I have at Churchill despite Centrals close proximity to Churchill. They also just opened up a coffee shop here called Burrow. I think it's great and super convenient for regular users of the station but lines during peak times might make it a hassle for foot traffic. Definitely not the best station ETS has to offer along the LRT line but certainly not the worst.

I have to agree with fellow Yelper, Lyndsey P. that this location leaves a lot to be desired…read more It serves both the Capital Line and the Metro Line. It is an underground station located beneath Churchill Square and is a part of the Edmonton Pedway system. I really try to avoid this junction as far as the LRT goes. It always feels cold, dirty, and more than a bit creepy in the tunnels/stairwells. I'll often opt for the exit by Hotel Mac instead by the ATB building. And I concur with Lyndsey's experiences of being accosted by intoxicated individuals. This is definitely a stop that I try to only go to with a travelling buddy and during the rushhour commute.

I find it really dirty and have found partially drunken liquor bottles in the stairwells on Mondays after the weekend. I was once down in the station by myself on the weekend waiting for a train after a birthday party and was approached by an extremely intoxicated woman who threatened to hit me after I told her I didn't have a lighter because I don't smoke. I have also noticed a group of several individuals the last few times I have been going home from downtown who hover behind people using the ticket machines to check the change slot after they are done as well as hassle people passing by for bus fare. It makes my skin crawl as I would hate having people stand that close to me when my back is to them and im digging around in my purse or wallet. I second what Nathaniel S has said about the station needing more security. I think it would benefit alot from having two peace officers working just this station at all times.

There are no public washrooms at the station and the hospital which I believe is the closest easily accessible washroom is still a bit of a hike up the street. There is a stop in front of the station for the routes 106,4,and 313. The 4 is often a very packed bus but it is worth noting that it as well as the 313 will take you almost to the front door of the cross cancer institute which is nice if you or a relative are receiving treatment there it cuts down on your walking and time spent outside in the elements which can be important if you're unwell. Being a surface station with no fully enclosed shelters can make it a misery in the winter. ETS likes to boast about the heaters they installed there but they installed them so high up to prevent things like vandalism that some days you don't even notice that they are on. Honestly if you can find other connections to get where you're going that don't involve this station I highly recommend it. It is just a minimal surface station that gives off the impression that city council had some extra money laying around the year they built it and decided to use it on an LRT stop.

There were people seated inside a enclosed waiting area (maybe this is new as the others reviewers indicated there's no enclosed area) but I like the signs that told me that train was arriving in 2 minutes. I probably waited one minute which is great as they have the trains that go to NAIT and Clareview so they are frequent to go downtown. I also find it easy to make most of my bus transfers as the buses are quite close to the train compared to some of the other stations. There are some great routes available once you get off the train if your looking to get to the Leger transit center as well as WEM. I find the transit peace officers tend to ignore it in favor of the downtown stations which some may like and others may not. I can honestly say though in three years of using our public transit I have only been stopped for a proof of payment check here once. There are washrooms available over by the buses as well as vending machines. My one and only gripe with this place is the fact the glass shelters to hide from the elements in are not fully enclosed which seems really silly in a city with Winters like ours.

I can't believe I'm reviewing an LRT station, but you know what... this review is needed! First…read moreoff, I love this location. It's very convenient for me. And I don't have to park here either. I f'ing HATE this station. It is the most POORLY planned station. It's the only station on the south side with a park and ride (yes, a crappy park and ride), but let's assume that draws even MORE riders. In fact, any transit users who lives in Southwest Edmonton, and even as far as mill woods will likely use this station to get to and from work or school. So why, WHY, dear planners did you only put in One. F'ing. Stairwell. One stairwell that exits to the transit/kiss'n'drop/parking. Hundreds of people get off the train during peak hours. We get the choice of three stairwells to go up to the pedway. Once we all get across the pedway, and everyone is in a rush to get to their bus, these hundreds of people are now herded like cattle into a 3 foot wide stairwell. Maybe it's 5 feet wide. THE ONLY SET OF STAIRS exiting. I actually sent an email to the City last year complaining about this because it's only a matter of time before one rushed person knocks someone down, causes a domino effect, and a lawsuit for the city. And by the way, the City acknowledged they are aware of the issue and aren't sure how to fix it. There is PLENTY of room to have ANOTHER STAIRWELL exiting north. But what do I know... I'm just a Yelper ;) Rant. Over.

Century Park is an LRT station in Edmonton. Here are the pros and cons…read more Cons... - The parking at this LRT station is iffy. If you're coming in the morning at like 7am, then may god have mercy on your soul. You'll only get a parking spot if the flying spaghetti monster touches you with his noodly appendage. Basically in the morning unless you have a prepaid monthly pass you're not parking at Century. The afternoon and evening parking is easier to come by. - The parking lot itself is horrible. Not only is there a lack of spots, but the lot is gravel and gets super muddy in the spring. Watch out for giant potholes. - It's an above ground station, meaning it can get a bit cold in the winter. There are heaters, but in -30 it doesn't do a lot. You can stay inside by the stairwell, but it tends to get a bit crowded. - This station gets busy, especially during the going to work and going home hours (about 6am-9am and 3pm to 6pm). The trains are quite crowded during these times...if you can avoid going at these times of the day I would - There is an escalator going up from where the bus stations are (you have to take the stairs going down), but there's about a 50/50 chance the escalator will be out of service/broken and you'll be taking the stairs. - ETS is a little bit pricey $3.20 for a 90 minute ride, $9 for an all day pass. I don't use the LRT enough for a monthly pass. I recommend buying a 10 pack of tickets (usually available at local 7-11 stores) and you'll save a bit of money per ride. Pros.... - This is the furthest LRT station on the southside, so for people living on the southside, or coming in from the airport (there's the 747 bus hookup) or Leduc it's nice to have this LRT. It wasn't too long ago that you'd have to drive or take the bus to the University Station, because that was the furthest south LRT point in the city. - The trains are usually on time, at least from what I found (and I took the LRT from Century a few times a week when I was in school). There's always the information screens that let's you know when the next train is coming and what direction it's going (Clareview or NAIT). - The parking (when you can find it) is free. - There is now free wifi at the station. Nice. - There is also a little concession/coffee stand in the waiting area for the buses. I've never been there, but it's a nice touch. - And speaking of buses Century Park LRT is right next Century Transit Centre where there are buses that head out to other neighbourhoods on the southside, as well as to the airport, and Leduc (during certain weekday hours only). - The station has a pedway connecting the transit centre side (buses) to the LRT, as well there is a pedway going across 111th to the west side of the street. Nice particularly during winter. - The Kiss 'n Ride signs make me laugh. I think it's supposed to be "you give your s.o a kiss before he/she rides the lrt to work," but when first seeing those signs my mind went somewhere else...just saying. Century Park is all right. I wish the parking was better (I live in Leduc and I can't always take the local bus to the LRT) and the price wasn't so high, but for the few times a year when I need to take the LRT then Century Park is my go to starting/ending station.

They do a great job of keeping it clean and I like that they have one of those little convenience stores in a good location so it doesn't interfere with the flow of foot traffic like the one at Century Park where the line often cuts you off from the bus schedules. There isn't as much room as I would like indoors to hide from the elements during winter time but people who come through this station are generally pretty respectful so I don't worry too much about being bothered or having my personal space encroached upon. I wish all of the stations were as good as the one at Southgate.
