There's a bunch of interesting biking gear, mid-to-high end bicycles, bike rentals, and apparently cross country ski gear and rentals during the winter months. After passing the big (nay, huge!) "wolf" swing set outside several times on our way to-from our B&B, we felt we had to stop by to check it out. The staff was very helpful and informative, although it was a surprisingly slow Labor Day. There is also a nascent brewery opening in the same building (Adventure Brewing), but they were not yet pouring their first batches (although they should be by now). We took advantage of the short walking paths through the fields, which apparently turn into X-C ski trails once the snow piles up. We were so impressed with Bayfield and its typical annual snowfall that we are planning to return in the winter for a weekend of skiing!

The mechanic took a look and explained the easy fix along with doing some minor work to each tire. He also gave GREAT advice on how to maintain my tires correctly. He wasn't even going to charge me, but I hooked him up with well deserved lunch money. Soap Box Side Note: People.... When dealing with a small local business, if they do anything minor for you, if they don't charge you, give the person some "lunch money". They will appreciate it and small local business needs $ to survive so don't take advantage of their generosity. Off soap box.

The pedal assist on my Rad Rover 5 failed and I took it to E-Bike Duluth. I finally realized they basically were incapable of fixing it and went to pick it up. They charged me over $400 for NOT fixing my bike. I essentially had to pay a ransom to get it back. We wound up taking it to a real bike repair shop in the Cities where they told us it needed a five dollar fuse and ten minutes worth of labor. As a repair shop, E-Bike of Duluth is indifferent and incompetent. I'll be suggesting Rad Bike remove them from their recommended service locations.

Conti had me bring my wheel in less than an hour before they closed and had it rebuilt and retrued for me to come pick up the next morning. They knew I wanted to ride early, and even called me to tell me I could pick it up before they officially opened. Many bike shops wouldn't have got me riding again, and I would have lost the chance to ride some of Duluth's awesome new trails, but Conti did. Definitely above and beyond the call of duty! After a week, having not received any shipping info, I emailed them to ask for info. The next day they replied in email that it turned out they didn't actually have the bindings that I'd ordered so they never sent them. We checked with a number of shops in the are to find enough bikes for our group and that would also accommodate 1/2 day rentals. We found the Ski Hut location near Spirit Mountain to have a good selection of bikes with half day rental available and located right adjacent to the trail. We worked with Chris and Shawn to get bikes lined up for our group. They were both really great to work with, totally low key, knowledgeable and helpful. We upgraded our original plans to ebikes which were a big hit as we had widely different endurance abilities in our group. Chris set us up with Trek bikes with the Bosch mid-drive system. Really a nice quality bike for a rental and decently priced too. Easily my first choice shop for my next visit to the area.
