Why 5 stars? Because they saved my Dad's life…read more --- --- --- A hospital having a Yelp page is definitely a different ballgame than just about any other kind of business. I'm sure that there are countless others who have lost loved ones at Bay Area Regional Medical Center, and it probably had nothing to do with the doctors/nurses not performing up to a certain standard during their visit. Life's randomness sometimes trumps precision that the most wonderful medical professionals on Earth have to offer. But in our case, BARMC could only be described as a God-send. My dad had a heart attack on Thanksgiving. In an instant, my Dad transformed from the most active 58 year old that anyone knows, to the guy laying on the bathroom floor at the gym with no pulse. My brother was fortunately by his side, and was able to call 911 pretty instantly. The paramedics arrived swiftly and were as efficient as possible in literally bringing him back from the dead. He was then transported to BARMC. He quickly had to have a stent placed in his artery, which went very smoothly. By the time I got into town a few hours later, he was heavily medicated, but still awake and talking. I didn't even know what any of this meant prior to Thursday, but apparently, it was nothing short of a miracle. Not only that he was alive, but that he went from a goner to very normal in a few hours. This is a testament to my dad's excellent shape/conditioning, but I'd imagine all of medical people involved played a role as well :) Where we really began to appreciate BARMC is the quality of care that he received in ICU. All of the nurses/doctors were absolutely phenomenal. Kayla, Natalia, Shelby, Dennis and all of the other names that I'm forgetting - you were all the absolute best. It's amazing that people who work in a place that's filled with so much sadness on a daily basis, could manage to be so cheerful and happy. All of them had the demeanor of people who were on vacation, in that, they were just so happy and joyful. Maybe it was that my dad's story was so amazing, or maybe this place just breeds super heroes. Either way, we loved it. All of these wonderful folks really helped me to put life in perspective. I love my job and always give it my all... but these people literally save lives for a living. Instead of enjoying Thanksgiving with their family, they perform insanely advanced procedures on people, while crying family members wait in the lobby with lives hanging in the balance. Much like folks who join the military, it's a job I could never do, but I'm forever grateful that others can.

My dad was in this hospital and too many mishaps to list. It took 48 hours to reconcile his home…read moremedications. They never responded to the call button and they employees are smart ass and mock you when you ask for help. I know several people work there and the place is rotten from the top down. Good people will not stick around and it will only get worse until upper management does something to change the culture. The HR department needs to be completely fired and built from the ground up. All the employees seem to be rejects from other hospitals in the area that were willing to accept a lower wage to have free reign to do whatever they want. They do not know how to staff, compensate or develop their employees. You can't teach someone to be a nice human being though.

POOR FRONT DESK!!!…read more Came with my spouse to see Dr. Naser Elkhalili and checked in on the phone. We also were assisted by the front desk rep Maribel who was rude and unprofessional. She advised of the copay which was incorrect and would not listen to what I was explaining to her with regard to our insurance/benefits. She made it clear she was not concerned with what he should have paid and insisted the copay was more than what the benefits stated. I paid it because it was obvious she could not accept what I knew he owed. My background is insurance and I've been a claims analyst, so I'm very familiar with our benefits. The "manager" Cheronda was sitting next to her and wasn't very helpful and stated they would reverify the benefit but it would prolong our wait from being seen. $15 dollars should not have prevented my husband from being seen nor them doing their job efficiently. Once we were called to the back the intake nurse Nicole was very warm and welcoming just like a doctor's office should be. It all starts at the front desk!! I did voice my concerns to Dr. Elkhalili and he unfortunately made excuses for his poor staff. It was sad seeing how the front desk interacts with their patients.

Another woman yelling into her cell phone like she's in a train station and the whole place packed with people just waiting. Waited an hour for a friend to get a shot. So, this is basically a people warehouse taking copays, not even the decency to hire enough staff. Find a better provider if you can. If you can't, find a better location. This one is off the rails.

The most unbelievably unprofessional place I've had my Dad since we moved to Kingwood…read more He was there 12 days. Extremely difficult to get hold of nurses station. Dr never returned calls, was told my dad was doing extremely well. Three times, he texted me to call them to return his call light to the bed after linens were changed. He is 90 years old and cannot hear and sight in only one eye. He cannot stand up as he has neuropathy in both legs. I was not allowed up there because of COVID. We were supposed to have family training. That never happened. On discharge day, dad was given his discharge instructions to sign. He had NO idea what they were. There were prescriptions, instructions, etc. I was told nothing. They shoved his discharge folder in the dirty clothes. Nursing 101. That's a NO NO!! I was told he was walking 179 ft with touch assist. The man cannot even stand up much less walk. They sent him to rehab the last day in unbuttoned and unzipped pants then discharged him that way. He had 3 sets of pajamas and a hanging bag full of clothes. Upon phone calls to case manager, I was heard and she assured someone would call me, which they did. There were several directors with me on a conference call and they assured me something would be done. The Rehab director again said her understanding was that he was walking. I told her that was false. He needed 3 of us to get him in the car and my husband and I could hardly get him in the wheelchair at home. He's worse than when he went in. I will update if I get more information. This was PAM in Humble.
