My aunt's gates were in disrepair and needed new motors and a general tuneup. Fantastic. He was able to add in some modern features where we can use the iphone to open the gates, schedule them etc and it all works perfectly. Raz is outstanding, polite, professional, good natured and took time with my aunt to make sure she was comfortable with the 'new fangled' software. We feel very fortunate to have found Bay Area Automatic Gates and we recommend them without reservation. 3 month update. The wheels had to be removed because they were squeaking very loudly - they didn't have any grease and were rusted internally. One board needed to be re-screwed onto the fence. The close sensor went out of alignment but that may be normal and was easily fixed. read more

We had our original gate installed by Bay Area Automatic Gate in 2019. It's a nice gate, they physically installed it well enough, aside from their stucco subcontractor painting the pillars gray instead of matching our house color which is cream. Using Cell Gate, a cellular company, to allow remote entry and camera use from our phones was recommended by BAAG. Every year without fail, the gate breaks. No cellular connection to the gate, only way to open it is manually with a lock and key, or by using our clickers. Very inconvenient. Can't see who is there, can't let them in, have to walk out to the gate to welcome guests. Also this is a security issue. We've subsequently been told by BAAG, who has been out at least 8-10 times following the initial installation, that we need a new solar panel, a new battery, more power, a hard electrical line trenched out to the equipment. On and on charging anywhere from a thousand dollars to 3000+ dollars per visit. We finally got wise, and figured out that every time the answer was to install something new, not to repair or problem solve for prevention of the problem in the first place. So we decided to get a 2nd opinion (duh) * see review for Automatic Gate Pros...* What was found was that one of the solar panels and battery arrays WASN'T EVEN HOOKED UP!!! No wonder there wasn't enough power!! This last visit the quote was for $8300 to increase and add on more power. If they inspected their OWN equipment at all or had the knowledge required to repair, this was and probably always has been an issue of incompetence not equipment insufficiency or failure. Getting them to respond has also been a nightmare. Recommendation: DO NOT USE this company! read more

Almost zero follow through after gate has been installed. Install was pretty good, but tracks/anchors was a shoddy install, so track wasn't fastened, and anchors were gone/bent. This caused the gate to hit the anchors, resulting in gate malfunction. I've called and e-mailed multiple times to get it fixed....zero fix. This gate company is shady. 800 number, no storefront. Who's in charge?? Luckily the gate is installed, but beware that this company definitely doesn't want to put roots down in the community or be a part of the community LOL. But does matter much - I have more important things to do than nitpick on these ( those who are interested can check below ) The main reason I am writing is to warn that you should not expect much after you pay for the work. Leo seemed very attentive and accommodating during the project, even though I felt that he tried more to sweet talk me rather than address my questions. Lately I called to ask to fix couple problems and offered to pay for it btw. I wanted to have the deadbolt reinstalled and have some gaps covered. I was met with outright hostility. He was short, argumentative, and in the end told me to email my requests. Of course, there was no response to the email. Problems: - It took 6 months and multiple calls between the time I paid the deposit and the work actually started. I wrote it off to Covid and 2020, which was a reasonable explanation - I asked many times whether the gate will stay in place in the wind. I was assured that "the opener was very powerful" and it would hold the gate. Of course, after the next high wind the opener position misaligned. There was a foot-wide gap opening between the gate and the post. I had to readjust it and now use cords to tie it on windy days. - A dead-bolt was part of the project. The first crew installed it. Slam bam, thank you ma'am. Bay Area gates installed a new keypad and motor for our gate. They programmed the keypad to be our address - not real secure. When I called to ask them to come back and program it to a secure code, they said, "Pay us $285. If you don't agree to pay us $285, we'll not come out." I called them three more times for help in reprogramming, lodging a complaint each time. The dispatcher as much as told me to get lost. "Pay or forget it." I found the programming instructions online and did it myself. Honestly, all they had to tell me was that they left the master code at factory set 888888. That's all they had to say. I contacted Bay Area Automatic Gates via Yelp Messaging 12/9/19 for a quote to install an automatic sliding gate at our residence. David S. responded promptly and their office set up an appointment to meet one of their techs on 12/18/19 between 11AM and 1PM, which was fine - - - albeit 6 days later than two other gate companies I contacted. 12/18/19 was a Wednesday, so I arranged to work from home so I could meet the Bay Area Automatic Gates tech for the 11AM-1PM appointment. Nobody had showed by 1:30PM so I messaged David S. on Yelp to ask what was going on. David S. and his office responded that the tech had been delayed but could make it before 4PM. I responded that was okay, but that I was unavailable from 3-4PM. At 3PM David S. messaged me that the tech was still unavailable and that they would have to re-schedule the appointment for another day. I responded that this was disappointing because I had worked from home specifically to meet the tech, and that the tech could drop by the property, take measurements and pics, and that we could discuss on the phone. David S. did not respond. Other reviewers indicate positive experiences with this Bay Area Automatic Gates, but given the above, I'm not impressed. Called for a repair of my call box and was told I needed a complete replacement for $2700. Called A&D Gate and the repairman fixed it in 10 minutes replacing the small transformer which is in a separate box next to the gate. I wouldn't recommend this company for any repairs. read more

I saw Bay Area Automatic Gates on Yelp with 4 stars so decided to give them a call for a free estimate to see why my automatic gate would not close. Tom came out and took off the circuit board. He said it had gotten wet and was "fried". He said there are no replacements available since my gate opener was 20 years old. He said he could repair my board for $1800. I thought that sounded like a lot of money so I googled the board and found one online brand new for $275. I showed it to him and he said it was from China and would not work. And anything I find online would not be compatible. So we let him take our board back to his lab to see if it was repairable. I asked him for a business card and he said he ran out. He called me and said it was not repairable and my only option was to get a whole new swing door gate opener. He quoted $4800 at first then lowered it to $4000. My husband and I were feeling like we were being taken advantage of. I called another company. They brought a new circuit board that was compatible, installed it in an hour. I would have taken less time but they found that Tom had disconnected the battery so it didn't work right away. When they saw that they reconnected the battery and everything works great! The board was $260 and the labor was a $100. Beware of this company! read more

My gates have not worked since the first week they were installed. Service is disappointing. Also, I received my final invoice and pressure to pay as it was overdue upon receipt! They were moderately responsive until I paid, now I can't get a response to fix what has been very inconvenient for us. Who cares about warranties when there is no service? This has to be one of the worse companies I have ever had to deal with and unless you want months of your time wasted I would totally avoid. I requested a quote in February and finally now in July they have provided a quote for installing gates without any breakdown of the costs. When challenged, they responded saying that they don't itemize their quotes. In additional both sales reps were under prepared and gave poor information when they arrived on site, leaving no confidence that what they were quoting for would ever get built or installed correctly. Had 2 new gate motors installed in march 2023. One of the motors started leaking hydraulic fluid, called technician to inspect and he told me it was fine. I said no it's not. He removed motor and said he sent to manufacture for repair or replacement. I have called multiple times with no updates. I've text and emailed them with no response. It's been 6 weeks since the motor was removed. I have called all numbers listed on website and there is 7 of them and all have no answer. They seem to have implemented a call block on my number. I had a tech that came out to resolve my gate issue. Paid $159. I requested an invoice, none was provided. Very unprofessional. He resolved the issue with the gate however two weeks later it happened again. I called them back with no avail. The lady said I needed to make another appt. and will be charged again. I contracted with Bay Area Automatic gates to install a set of swinging gates. Its been a challenge from the beginning. Scheduling of the work took several months, then the gate posts were installed incorrectly and had to be modified. I explained in detail exactly what I wanted and lack of communication or supervision got the electrical installed wrong. The loops were installed at the wrong location, the access control box was installed in the wrong location the material used were incorrect and installed half ass. All was removed and reinstalled correctly. Then the fence panels got installed using cheap material and very poor welding. Im very unimpressed with the quality and lack of supervision. I'm hopeful Bay Area Automatic gates get there act together and corrects these mistakes so I can provide an update to this post. read more

I called to schedule a bid for a large (25k+) automatic gate. The appointment was scheduled a few days out, but the estimator called the night before (around 6:30PM) to ask if I could see him immediately. I said I wasn't at the property and reminded him we had an appointment the next morning. He promised to meet me then. The next day, I drove from Oakland to SF to show him the work and get a bid. I waited for about 40 minutes before calling the office to report a no-show. They were apologetic but unaware that he wasn't working. They offered to reset the apt but I declined. They learned later that he ditched his appointments and stayed home. Things happen. Maybe he (or his kid) was sick or had another kind of emergency. I can deal with that. But him calling the night before (when he was in the area) and ditching the appt the next day wasn't OK. I can't do business with contractors who don't show up on time FOR THE BID!! That is the most professional and reliable you can ever expect. The trip was wasted. I had to call more contractors for bids and make the trip again. So thanks-but-no-thanks to Bay Area Automatic Gates & Fences. I'll avoid in the future. read more
