You go here for the same reason you go to Mcdonalds- it is consistent and so you know exactly what you are getting. You don't go here for gourmet or cheap eats- you here for the 1litre beers and the $10 schnitzel night. Or if you want a big night of raucous beer and meat with the boys. The Bavarian beer café franchise have numerous locations through Sydney (and I presume further afar) so if you've been to one- you've been to them all and they are always a good place to get some good solid German beer. My all time go-to beer is the 'franziskaner hefe-weissbier hell' which in my opinion is about as tasty as wheat beer gets- but if you want to go super fly- mix it with mango juice and watch all your mates laugh at you and your lack of masculinity. Most importantly. If you enjoy beer and anything sacred NEVER try the beer mixed with cola (it's called diesel cos that's what it tastes like). Don't expect anything super special but expect a good time if you want to have one.

Cool and laid back bar situated on Manly Wharf affording you beautiful ocean views while you sip on your drink. They have an assortment of beers and some cocktails. I had the Blueberry mojito which was good but a bit light on the liquor side. I didn't try any food but some of the plates that came out to the tables looked delicious. Overall a cool spot to hang with some friends or by yourself.

One of several in the Australian franchise, the Bavarian Bier Café in Manly is exactly as you'd expect. The staff wear "traditional German" costumes (read; lederhosen and beer maid outfits) that have probably never actually been worn in Germany. The beer menu is extremely extensive, with every flavor of beer you could ever imagine being brewed on offer. The music and décor - think Berlin Bears - also go with the subtle theme, and the food is also very German and wintery. All of these things certainly have a place, but it's hard to imagine that the ideal place for it is Manly Wharf, with its summery vibes and world-class harbor side location. Still, the Bavarian Bier Café is a bit of fun; shots come out in a wooden panel that everyone takes together, and the kitsch is really embraced by patrons and staff alike. There are some concessions to location - alcohol other than beer is certainly available! The blonde wood of the bar and interior - seemingly so foreign to the dark and European theme of the café - go so well with Manly's chilled and summery vibes. The café is expensive for food, and not much better for drinks, some combination of the exotic and imported beers and beautiful location. If you're out to celebrate a special occasion though, this is a great spot to do so!

Grat view. Friendly staff and yummy food. In line with the chain. Parking in Manly is impossible and paid parking is a ripoff!

When arriving you're usually ushered in with great precision by a snappy little fella in a pair of Lederhosen, no messing about, it's all business & schnitzel. Most people know what they're going to eat before they even get there & usually your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Never fear order up & there's take away boxes available! Una's has a great selection of beers, or there's a bottle shop of the road if you'd rather to BYO with a bottle of wine. I tend to try & not drink too much beer here for the fear of filling up & not having room for my Schnitz. I've tried a few of the starters, Deep Fried Camembert, a decadent delight. The Dutch Beef Croquets are a favourite shared amongst friends & topped with a little of the mustard located on the table - yum yum! The mains, well it's hard to go past the Schnitzel! I've been here with friends & watched them order other great plates, such as the Una's Beef Goulash, with Spatzle. I'd love to try it some time, however I'm always drawn to the golden schnitzel. I've had the Vienna Schnitzel, & the Chicken, my favourite dish at Una's would have to be the Chicken Jaegar Schnitzel, served with mushroom sauce, rosti & a cabbage salad on the side. It's so HUGE you wonder how you're going to get through, I must admit though I usually do. I have to admit I even had an occasion where we were pressed for time as were going to a concert & had stopped in for a bite.. My sister said we haven't got long we'd better eat quickly. I think I ate that schnitzel like I was at the world class Hot Dog eating competition at Coney Island. No sooner had I finished my meal (in record time) that the patron's on the adjacent table commented on how well & quickly I'd gotten through it. I was a little embarrassed, but proudly so, lol! ;-) go ME! If you decide to get a take away box, or open the second stomach there's always a serve of Una's Apple Strudel & Ice-cream to top it all off, why not get one share it, just to try. So pack your stretchy pants & visit Una's, the perfect place to enjoy a schnitzel with friends especially in the cold winter months.

We started with Dutch croquettes for an entree (appetizer). They were delicious, reminding us of bitterballin in the Netherlands last year. Then we each ordered a meal. If we'd realized how much food came with each meal, we'd have split just one. I ordered the jaegar schnitzel, chicken, and it came with two huge cutlets, nicely coated and crispy, with a mushroom sauce on top. There was also potatoes rossi, which is like hash browns, super crispy on top layer, and a small bowl of vinegary coleslaw. The veal medallions were tender and tasty. That meal came with the same potatoes and some barely cooked mixed veggies...yum! There was too much for us to be able to eat it all. Being Anzac Day, they add 10% to the bill. Our server/host was friendly and helpful. We're glad we got to eat there while in Sydney.

The mister had the jaeger version and I stuck with the classic - both arrived with 2 pieces overhanging the plate along with a generous amount of roesti potatoes. Definitely more than either of us could finish, and we were hungry. Service is very nice and it's a family friendly place too.
