I highly recommend this place for anyone who bought a bike off Craigslist and just needs a normal tune up without the added bicycle-guy pretension. Bring cash as Joe doesn't take credit cards. And be mindful of the very adorable storage policy - you will get charged $1 per day if you don't pick up your bike after three days of when it is ready. He does have some pretty sweet vintage Schwinns in great condition for about $150. I did take off one star because as soon as I test rode my bike, something fell off of it. BUT, Joe did get it back on in less than an hour at no charge. So...maybe just a heads up to take it for a spin down the block before you are on your merry way.

The shop is crammed to the gills true and you can't walk through it due to this but it didn't even matter. The purpose for my writing today, though, is specifically to relate to others about my experience. I heard about this place from a third party. They were having a Grand Opening event and after work, I decided to go check it. My goal was to gather information to educate myself more on e-bikes with the intent on owning one some day. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by Adam & since it was the Grand Opening, his family was there as well supporting him. After talking with Adam and later being offered to test ride the bikes around the park, I will say I was not expecting I would get the opportunity to ride and feel what a top tier e-bike is. Despite riding in the cold winds, the bikes felt great, smooth riding. Chattanooga definitely has amazing bike paths to enjoy. Once the weather gets warmer, I will definitely return and do a day rental. The rates [both hour & day] are very affordable. I appreciated that Adam took the time to answer all the questions I had and that I got to test ride the bikes. When it comes to warmer weather days, I can see this business booming. I will definitely be returning as mentioned and I definitely recommend this bike shop to all. He's had a bearing get stuck in the hub on the bike a few times and when he takes his tire here they are able to use a bearing puller to get it out for him. This is a real lifesaver since he can't use the tire when the bearing can't be replaced. They are so nice and have never charged him, either.

This shop is a joke. Was given a 2 to 3 week turnaround for a broken shifter, ended up taking 2 1/2…read moremonths. We were charged $1250/10 hours of labor after requesting a full motor rebuild, only gaskets and oil filter were replaced. Says he threw in a clutch but it is not on the receipt. Receipt does not even have his business name on it. We were not given a call when the bike was opened up to let us know that pistons were within tolerance and would not be replaced. He did not keep and show us any broken parts which is the norm for other shops. Charged for an oil filter... THIS BIKE DOES NOT HAVE AN OIL FILTER?!!!!!! Numerous parts hand tightened and scary loose, very very very dangerous. We now have other issues from parts that were removed and are very nervous to even ride it Now. When I stopped in…read morehis shop, I told him I was from out of town (Dothan, AL), and he still spent nearly 1.5 hours answering questions and walking me through the "need to knows" of bicycle purchasing and riding. After I left his shop I e-mailed him for two weeks asking additional questions so I could choose the bicycle that was right for me. I ended up purchasing a Cannondale Catalyst 1, ONLY, because a Fuji Nevada 1.7 was not available in my size at time of search, and it was a requirement for me to stay under $550. [The local Cannondale/Trek dealer in Dothan sold me the Catalyst at his cost ($500)] I highly recommend River City Bicycles, and Ronald, if you live in the Chattanooga area, or just passing through.
