Battlefield Golf Club is a local " hidden gem" in the golfing community. Although lacking in the modern amenities as a clubhouse and dining facilities, it has a very unique course layout with several challenging holes. The course is in good condition and the staff are extremely friendly and professional. Best time to play is late afternoon. read more

This place to me is one of my favorite course to dial in your game. It has so much character in the links style layout and can challenge every club in your bag! It used to get so many negative reviews but from what I've seen, it's in better shape than so many courses in the area! Greens are in great shape and the price you can't beat. It doesn't have a clubhouse but that really doesn't matter to me as I go there to get my game back on. Once I dial in here, I feel like I can overpower the normal municipal course in the VB area. Went here this afternoon and walked on. The guy at the clubhouse was not very friendly at all and I was surprised that it was $45 a person. Seemed a bit high. The clubhouse was nothing more than a trailer which was disappointing. Was also surprised to find out they do not sell or allow alcohol consumption on the course. Played the front nine and had to call it quits because it was blisteringly hot out. There is no tree cover or shade. So recommend going on a cloudy cool day. Overall a good course to play golf, however we just canceled our fourth tee time of the year because of a policy that doesn't make any sense. That policy is that when conditions make it cartpath only, they do not allow walkers prior to 11 AM. We've agreed to pay the full cart price so the revenue loss is not the problem. Speed of play is definitely not a factor because walkers would be playing much faster than cart path riders. Don't understand the policy but there's many nice golf courses around that will allow you to walk When the conditions dictate cartpath only. read more

I am not one to typically write.reviews good.or bad, but this mornings fiasco was one that can not go untold. Me and 5 workers had confirmed tee times for 945am. At 850am we arrived at the golf course to hit a few balls before our 18 holes. When we asked for the club rentals for 3 of our teamates (also confrimed ahead of time that club rentals would be available), we were told that club rentals were not available until 2pm. Then we were informed that whomever took our reservations messed up and shouldn't have scheduled us because they have shipyard folks playing there today and wouldnt be unable to accommodate us. When I made one final request to direct me to the restroom, before departing,, they informed me that they had none, but Porta John's were available. What a completely unprofessional golf course. Needless to say we will never be back and I will be glad to spread the word about the poor staffing and facility this place.turned out to be. read more

This is a surprisingly great course! Their clubhouse is currently a work in progress but the course is great. They have rental clubs available, a low inventory "pro shop" and also offer golf camps and lessons for kids and adults. Really, once this place develops a little more and has a clubhouse, it's really going to be a five star location. They have a decently sized driving range, a dynamic putting green, and plenty of rough/sand surrounding the green to practice your chipping. Their golf carts are gas but surprisingly underpowered. Also after playing for a few hours I was surprised with a course of this size to not have anyone come around with a drink cart. They do have several individuals patrolling the course in "ranger" carts to ensure course rules are being followed, so there isn't a lot of horseplay in this club. Honestly think it's pretty great. If you're looking for a solid place to spend a few hours, you should genuinely give this course a shot. I can't wait to see how it develops over the next year or so. read more

I know that these guys are trying. The clubhouse is lacking due to building permit issues. However, the overall layout of this course is actually really cool. I bet that in five years this will course will have grown up a lot. There is a lot of wind generated out here which adds to some very challenging shots. There are some long bomb par-4's and a the track has a few trick shots up her sleeve (think drilling a 6-iron into a stiff cross wind only to have it go 120 yards out and maybe 40 yards right). The practice facility is acceptable and the range is alright. I am sure that the facilities will continue to improve over time. This is a great value for a ridiculously low price. read more

If you like distance, dealing with wind and golfing at a good price then you'll like playing here BUT the grounds are tough making it hard just to place you tee. Unfortunately Battlefield Golf Club has been prevented from building a club house due to a legal battle with locals about the soil. Apparently, the locals are concerned about the remnants of coal mines used to form the hills at Battlefield Golf Club sweeping into the water table. This might be the reason on why there's not to many trees. The fairways' are good but the grass immediately off of the fairway is 50/50 grass to weed at best. The putting greens are good but not easily seen on a few of the longer holes. This course just needs a little more love, which usually equates to money. My guess is without a clubhouse there's not enough members and/or events to cover the costs related to maintaining a solid course. The staff is nice and the golf pro as friendly and easy going as they come. Despite it having perhaps the best prices, including the military courses, in the area I can't give it 4 Stars. It's hard to make up for the lack of a clubhouse, etc so I'm giving it an A-OK rating of 3 Stars. read more

The course was in terrible condition. Website and staff noted that two greens were closed and under construction. Apparently they were the two best holes on the course. A number of greens were dead, and I mean dead. Others were in different states of repair. Apparently the staff couldn't mention this to anyone while taking our green fees! I will never play this course again, and I suggest that you contact the course prior to booking and see if you can get a honest status on the course greens. read more

Played here with my teenage son and his buddies and we all LOVED it. We loved the generous fairways, the rough was playable and some of the holes were really pretty. We all had a blast. We're from the DC area and we couldn't touch a course anywhere near as good for what we paid. So far, this one is our favorite in the Va Beach/Sandbridge area for having a fun laidback round. read more

Dave M The course has really came a long way. I usually play it a couple times a year but played last Friday and again on Sunday. The greens were perfect and the fairways have really improved. The elevated Par 3's over the water were awesome and a bit challenging with a little wind. I play most of the local courses and the military bases at least twice a week and I'll say that battlefield is defiantly getting close to the same quality of most of them. If the course can get a clubhouse and a few more amenities I think they will be on par with most of the local courses in the area, but I personally don't really mind the lack of a clubhouse I just think they would be able to bring in more capital to improve otherwise. I really like this course a lot. It has the best driving range in Hampton Roads, and great practice green, chipping, and even two practice bunkers. The layout of the course is nothing exotic - but it's fun. The greens roll very fast, lots of water in play, and good distances. No way this course is worth $30. Always slow players with no Etiquette. Oh wait, no club house, no cart girl, no beer. Hmm what else. No indoor bathroom, hope you don't need a #2. Tee boxes suck some to soft some you need a hammer. Goose poop everywhere . I'll stop for now. It use to be $15 and that was worth it, but now don't waste your money. I played this course for the first time yesterday(11/23/12) This was without a doubt the worse course I have played in my short time of playing golf. the green fees of $24 including cart was way to much for what condition the course is in. There is no pavement anywhere, dirt parking lot, dirt cart paths, and the yardage markers are non-existent. I would rather spend the money I used here on another course with more amenities. The club house is nothing but a trailer, we almost choked on the fumes of the golf cart, the cart was held together with bailing wire and bungee cords. I realize that this property is in litigation, but to charge for play at this place is almost criminal. read more

The course is in great condition. The staff was very friendly. I played as a single and finished 9 in 1.5hrs.

I've played the course pretty regularly over the past three years, and I also play in a league that travels all over Tidewater, incl. Sufflok courses, Portsmouth, and Norfolk. There is absolutely no better value for your golfing buck than this challenging, windy, tight course. If you need to test your game, go to BGC. Plenty of variety, side hills, some tough undulating greens, and simply some of the nicest folks you'll ever see running the place. This place is just terrible! Let's just say the greens were so bad I didn't even have to pull out my divot tool. SO HARD. Let me help you out and say keep your $30 and play somewhere (anywhere) else. my family and i went to battlefield golf course the day after christmas,and had the worst golf outing ever. which was very disappointing since one of my brothers had just returned from an over-seas deployment (he is in the service) and will be leaving again the next day. i would not take an enemy there let alone a friend or family ever again and i recommend you avoid the place as well. i sincerely hope this review prevents someone from having their family time ruined by this golf course especially since there are many other choices in the area read more
