BLACK CAPE : THE ORIGINAL INVERT Everything I covered in my previous review still stands, I just wanted to rehash some of it. This is the 1st inverted (feet-dangling) roller coaster ever built, and it's withstood the test of time magnificently. Decades later, Bruce Wayne's alter ego is still thrilling millions of guests and shows ZERO signs of wear. The ride experience is just as intense as ever; from disengaging the chain lift to station brakes, the coaster lasts less than a minute but nearly every second is fast and furious. When the track dips down into the trenches, you pull the better part of 4G's and definitely feel the blood rushing towards your feet. There are spots in the front and back rows that can lead to momentary 'grey outs' due to the high G-forces encountered. There would be no Raptor, no Alpengeist, no Montu, no Nemesis, no Banshee, no Top Gun the Jet Coaster, were it not for this one right here. So thanks, Batman, for making all of those possible (we still love ya). The build quality of Bolliger & Mabillard's coasters are rarely - if ever - questioned since they can run around the clock until the next millennium. Although the line can appear long at times, Batman's 4 across x 8 row seating arrangement cranks through guests in a very speedy manner, up to a maximum rate of 1,400 riders per hour (!) Six Flags repainted the entire ride in 2004 from a prior color scheme of all black to yellow track with dark purple supports. You walk through fake sewer tunnels to get to the station platform and the station itself is themed to look like the batcave. Restraints aren't the comfiest nowadays but at the time they were quite revolutionary. Generally awesome and running great for its age, Batman remains the original invert that has lead the way for some of the world's best coasters. Always, ALWAYS worth waiting for during your day at Six Flags.

Standing in line and loving rocking out to songs from all the Batman movies. Batman is an iconic coaster. It's the FIRST coaster that had the track at the top earning it a coaster landmark. You walk through Gotham City during the line. Part of the line is indoors, great in colder weather, terrible in super hot weather cause it kind of smells. This is a must do at the park

My first 5 star review for an inverted coaster goes to the first one to exist - Batman. (Though I'm not entirely sure why suspended coasters like Iron Dragon and the old Bat at King's Island don't count as inverted. Not that Draggin' Iron is in the same league as Batman: The Ride. Does it really need that subtitle? We can see it's a ride. And it probably should be A Ride since Six Flags couldn't resist cloning it.) As much as Cedar Point is head and shoulders above SFGA, Batman is head and shoulders above CP's resident invert, Raptor. Sure, ol' Greenie might be a little taller, a little longer and a couple years younger, but Batman is smoother, has a better layout, far better theming - not something I'm too into but the Caped Crusader is my favorite DC hero - and just an overall better ride experience. I would prefer the track be black than bright yellow like I'm told it used to be but at least the paint had a glistening new look. They probably repainted it so it wouldn't look neglected next to the brand new arch-nemesis ride, The Joker. I didn't exactly feel like a vigilante fighting crime but swooping around with legs dangling in the air really is an appropriate style of coaster to approximate Batman - much more than say, an indoor Wild Mouse. (We didn't ride The Dark Knight, but more than one Batman coaster in the same park really seems to cheapen the theme a bit. Especially since Batman: The Ride really seems to have it covered quite well.) I really dug the dingey Gotham City theming all through the queue - the grimy crashed cop car, the old warehouse with the rusty old billboard with the iconic Batman logo, the sewer tunnel going up the stairs, which thankfully wasn't too authentic. Even the trash cans were marked GCPW for Gotham City Public Works. The lagoon was a really nice touch, too, though I'm not exactly sure what it had to do with Gotham. The line for the front car could have used some sort of extra marking as it stretched past the station right to the foot of the stairs when Eric S and I rode. People mistook it for the line for the ride in general and as a consequence trains with empty seats were getting sent out. We were waiting for the front car anyway - it was really fun seeing everything come at me as we swooped through the air - but anything that increases wait times at at an amusement park is bad, bad, bad. Even still, the wait for Batman wasn't too outrageous, even for the front. The ride itself had a nice snappy pace and would definitely been worth a reride if we had the time. Oh, and best of all - you don't have to watch your parents get killed to experience Batman: The Ride! *giggles maniacally like a cartoon villain.

    This means we need help!

IS HE A VAMPIRE? He likes bats but he's not even Dracula! And why do all the chicks dig vampires? Those dudes wear too much sun screen and sleep all day. I just don't get it. Batman doesn't really have any super powers. Batman is just a regular guy with too much time on his hands. He's just some rich dude who uses his parents money to make stuff to look cool and he doesn't even brag about it. Hello...doesn't he have a twitter account? This ride was kind of developed with that Bruce Wayne attitude. A general manager at 6 flags helped in the development and concept of this coaster. This ride first appeared in May 1992. The costs were never disclosed but it was extremely expensive. Bruce Wayne would be very happy to hear that. In fact, this original ride was cloned at many of the other 6 Flag owned parks. Batman was the worlds first inverted roller coaster when it opened, which is really cool. In fact, it has coaster landmark status by the Amer. Coaster Enthusiasts. Batman would totally be tweeting that to the other superheroes if he liked to brag. He doesn't even tell anyone who he is except for a few trusted people like Morgan Freeman. This ride reaches a height of 106 feet and top speeds of 50 MPH. It even went backwards for a few months in 2013. I never got to try it backwards because the lines were insane. Two hour waits did not seem like a fun time. Hopefully they will run that promotion again in the near future. I was surprised they didn't extend it through the end of summer. Bruce Wayne would have totally extended it. Again I love the front row and I love riding this at night. As the rider you are sitting in a chair lift with your feet dangling. The roller coaster track is above your head, so when you go upside down all you see are your feet and sky. Yes this ride is fun. It is located just past the Lobster (original ride name) and in front of the Whirlywig, which are the suspended swings that go in a circle. So if you want to fly and ride in a coaster that set the bar for all roller coasters, then you need to check out Batman. Now remember there are two batman coasters here which can get confusing. If you are riding Batman and you are indoors, then you are not on this Batman ride I am reviewing! Confused? Don't be...just look at a map.

Batman's loop. It's full of happy riders!

3X THE FUN Triple…read morePlay is located in Hometown Square in between the train station and the season pass processing center. The ride opened in 1976 and was manufactured by HUSS Rides. It is also known as a Trokia, which means 'group of three' in Russian. The Triple Play has three arms extending out from a center column. Each of these cars can seat up to two people and are located at the end of every arm in a circle. Now the fun begins when the operator turns on the ride. The center column rotates in a clockwise motion while the cars located at the end of the arms rotate in a counterclockwise motion. I am getting dizzy just thinking about this ride and let's not forget the sweeping motion of the ride as it goes up and down. You will also notice a slight rocking motion of the car from side to side. Now my description sounds a lot worse then the ride actually is. In fact, this ride is quite mild. It is a great beginner ride for your little one as you slowly work your kids up to bigger and faster coasters. This is another one of those rides that I have ridden on as a child and with my child. It is always fun to share these childhood memories. The line may look long but it moves fast. If I do my math correctly 21 cars times 2 people means 42 people can potentially ride at one time. I also feel that many people miss this ride because it is tucked in the corner. Make sure to do not wait until the end of the night to ride this because it will shut down early to accommodate the evening stage show and the nightly parade. You have been warned. My little one loves this ride and it is always fun to ride with her on it. She laughs and giggles. It always cracks me up when she asks me to hold on to her. This ride only has a metal lap bar and it does feel like you might fly out as the ride goes into it's dropping motion. I was curious as to how many of these rides still exist. I was able to find out in the USA, there are at least eight Troikas in operation and they are located at Cedar Point, Palace Playland, Kings Island, Elitch Gardens, Kings Dominion, Fun Spot Amusement Park, Six Flags Great America, and Six Flags Over Texas. So get on board this classic Trokia ride and feel the spin.

What makes this coaster take my breath away (literally at times) is the fact that all you have is a frickin lap belt and no harness. There's not really even anything to hold on to except for this little loop on your seat belt. And i dont think its even made for that. I just tried finding anything that I can wrap my hands on to feel somewhat secure before conquering this giant of a coaster. And yes, although only being secured by a measley lap belt, you go upside down in loops. So the only thing holding you in to your seat other than that lap belt is pure G-force. That first drop is all that. Its the steepest one here at the park at an 85 degree angle and you are going at it at such a high speed! Pure adrenaline rush for you junkies out there. Keep in mind that this is another wooden coaster here but so much smoother than that of the Viper and old man American Eagle. I believe this is the best roller coaster here at Six Flags and of course, my favorite. Try riding it at night and enjoy the view before that first 180 ft drop!

The structure for this coaster is crazy it's the first of the wood meets steal hybrids I've seen that had this type of inversion where you spend a good amount of time upside down as the hang time is just not seen anywhere else! Goliath doesn't let you down in anyway whatsoever at any point as the entire ride was smooth and just super enjoyable at every twist and turn to the point of which it feels like you are still riding the classic wooden coaster right until you see that next Hybrid inversion coming at you with a good amount of speed! The line for Goliath can get super long I say this as the day we came to the park it wasn't that busy so do make sure you hit this ride early! Goliath here is awesome and I'll be looking forward to riding it the next time I visit this radical park of Six Flags Great America!

FLYING HIGH The…read moreCondor opened in 1991 and is located in Orleans Place next to the Superman roller coaster and Rue le Dodge, which is French for bumper cars. It was relocated to Gurnee from Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The ride was installed in 1988 at Six Flags Great Adventure and was one of the first of three production models to appear in the US. The ride is manufactured by HUSS of Bremen, Germany. HUSS introduced the ride in 1984 at the World's Fair in New Orleans and it was called the Cyclo Tower. Unfortunately it spent most of its time closed because of operating problems. It took an additional 4 years of re-engineering before the ride was put into production. Six Flags purchased two of the rides and had planned to use the condor as part of its ride rotation program. It was an idea for parks to have new rides each year at a reduced cost of purchasing a new ride for the parks. Luckily for us it landed in Gurnee and never flew away. The ride is a 112 foot tower and offers amazing views of the park and parking lot. I love going up to the top and looking for my car. My little one just loves this ride and it never gets old to her. We have been riding on it together since she has been tall enough. It is a great family attraction because riders can sit together. One child can sit in front of you in each car between your legs and they will feel safe and secure. It reduces their stress level making them feel protected. The ride was designed to be programmed for various speed cycles but at Six Flags it only has two. The normal operation during the year and a version during Fright Fest where it slows down at the top. I wish that Six Flags would actually utilize the programming and make the ride more of an adventure. Riders would never know if there next ride was going to be fast or slow or in reverse. Let's mix it up because we have the technology. At night this is one of the best rides in the park to look at. It says fun and carnival as it lights up the night sky. If you are attracted to the ride then that is a good thing. The lighting was designed for the "European Fair Circuit" where rides compete against each other to sell tickets. The flashier the ride the more people wanted to ride it. Luckily for me it's included in my season pass or my little one would have cleaned out my wallet. There are 28 gondolas all painted to resemble a condor. Riders climb in as two riders or they can ride solo. In addition to an added seat belt there is an original pneumatic air pressure sliding gate. I love informing my little one that when I was a kid there were no added safety features like seat belts. Thanks a lot insurance companies. It freaks her out and she often asks why I never flew out. The ride has a dual rotation as it moves up the tower. It is fun to watch but even more fun to ride. There is also a tilting motion of the gondolas when it reaches the outer part of its rotation. It makes you feel like you are actually turning. We love riding the condor and a trip to Six Flags would not be complete if we didn't jump on board for a whirl. My little one and I often make a bird noise like "Ca-cow" as we spin to the top. It is one of those traditions that I hope she shares with her children one day.
