Triple Play - The yellow cars

    Triple Play

3X THE FUN Triple…read morePlay is located in Hometown Square in between the train station and the season pass processing center. The ride opened in 1976 and was manufactured by HUSS Rides. It is also known as a Trokia, which means 'group of three' in Russian. The Triple Play has three arms extending out from a center column. Each of these cars can seat up to two people and are located at the end of every arm in a circle. Now the fun begins when the operator turns on the ride. The center column rotates in a clockwise motion while the cars located at the end of the arms rotate in a counterclockwise motion. I am getting dizzy just thinking about this ride and let's not forget the sweeping motion of the ride as it goes up and down. You will also notice a slight rocking motion of the car from side to side. Now my description sounds a lot worse then the ride actually is. In fact, this ride is quite mild. It is a great beginner ride for your little one as you slowly work your kids up to bigger and faster coasters. This is another one of those rides that I have ridden on as a child and with my child. It is always fun to share these childhood memories. The line may look long but it moves fast. If I do my math correctly 21 cars times 2 people means 42 people can potentially ride at one time. I also feel that many people miss this ride because it is tucked in the corner. Make sure to do not wait until the end of the night to ride this because it will shut down early to accommodate the evening stage show and the nightly parade. You have been warned. My little one loves this ride and it is always fun to ride with her on it. She laughs and giggles. It always cracks me up when she asks me to hold on to her. This ride only has a metal lap bar and it does feel like you might fly out as the ride goes into it's dropping motion. I was curious as to how many of these rides still exist. I was able to find out in the USA, there are at least eight Troikas in operation and they are located at Cedar Point, Palace Playland, Kings Island, Elitch Gardens, Kings Dominion, Fun Spot Amusement Park, Six Flags Great America, and Six Flags Over Texas. So get on board this classic Trokia ride and feel the spin.

What makes this coaster take my breath away (literally at times) is the fact that all you have is a frickin lap belt and no harness. There's not really even anything to hold on to except for this little loop on your seat belt. And i dont think its even made for that. I just tried finding anything that I can wrap my hands on to feel somewhat secure before conquering this giant of a coaster. And yes, although only being secured by a measley lap belt, you go upside down in loops. So the only thing holding you in to your seat other than that lap belt is pure G-force. That first drop is all that. Its the steepest one here at the park at an 85 degree angle and you are going at it at such a high speed! Pure adrenaline rush for you junkies out there. Keep in mind that this is another wooden coaster here but so much smoother than that of the Viper and old man American Eagle. I believe this is the best roller coaster here at Six Flags and of course, my favorite. Try riding it at night and enjoy the view before that first 180 ft drop!

The structure for this coaster is crazy it's the first of the wood meets steal hybrids I've seen that had this type of inversion where you spend a good amount of time upside down as the hang time is just not seen anywhere else! Goliath doesn't let you down in anyway whatsoever at any point as the entire ride was smooth and just super enjoyable at every twist and turn to the point of which it feels like you are still riding the classic wooden coaster right until you see that next Hybrid inversion coming at you with a good amount of speed! The line for Goliath can get super long I say this as the day we came to the park it wasn't that busy so do make sure you hit this ride early! Goliath here is awesome and I'll be looking forward to riding it the next time I visit this radical park of Six Flags Great America!

Condor - Ride and spin to the top and enjoy the view

    Condor

FLYING HIGH The…read moreCondor opened in 1991 and is located in Orleans Place next to the Superman roller coaster and Rue le Dodge, which is French for bumper cars. It was relocated to Gurnee from Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The ride was installed in 1988 at Six Flags Great Adventure and was one of the first of three production models to appear in the US. The ride is manufactured by HUSS of Bremen, Germany. HUSS introduced the ride in 1984 at the World's Fair in New Orleans and it was called the Cyclo Tower. Unfortunately it spent most of its time closed because of operating problems. It took an additional 4 years of re-engineering before the ride was put into production. Six Flags purchased two of the rides and had planned to use the condor as part of its ride rotation program. It was an idea for parks to have new rides each year at a reduced cost of purchasing a new ride for the parks. Luckily for us it landed in Gurnee and never flew away. The ride is a 112 foot tower and offers amazing views of the park and parking lot. I love going up to the top and looking for my car. My little one just loves this ride and it never gets old to her. We have been riding on it together since she has been tall enough. It is a great family attraction because riders can sit together. One child can sit in front of you in each car between your legs and they will feel safe and secure. It reduces their stress level making them feel protected. The ride was designed to be programmed for various speed cycles but at Six Flags it only has two. The normal operation during the year and a version during Fright Fest where it slows down at the top. I wish that Six Flags would actually utilize the programming and make the ride more of an adventure. Riders would never know if there next ride was going to be fast or slow or in reverse. Let's mix it up because we have the technology. At night this is one of the best rides in the park to look at. It says fun and carnival as it lights up the night sky. If you are attracted to the ride then that is a good thing. The lighting was designed for the "European Fair Circuit" where rides compete against each other to sell tickets. The flashier the ride the more people wanted to ride it. Luckily for me it's included in my season pass or my little one would have cleaned out my wallet. There are 28 gondolas all painted to resemble a condor. Riders climb in as two riders or they can ride solo. In addition to an added seat belt there is an original pneumatic air pressure sliding gate. I love informing my little one that when I was a kid there were no added safety features like seat belts. Thanks a lot insurance companies. It freaks her out and she often asks why I never flew out. The ride has a dual rotation as it moves up the tower. It is fun to watch but even more fun to ride. There is also a tilting motion of the gondolas when it reaches the outer part of its rotation. It makes you feel like you are actually turning. We love riding the condor and a trip to Six Flags would not be complete if we didn't jump on board for a whirl. My little one and I often make a bird noise like "Ca-cow" as we spin to the top. It is one of those traditions that I hope she shares with her children one day.
