My boyfriend and I bought a Groupon to try this for the first time. We came between 12-3pm on a Saturday where they have walk-ins for our Groupon voucher to be redeemed. We got to spend 1.5 hours learning to perfect our aim and activity. I think that's really generous for our Groupon! The lady helping us throughout the stay was super friendly and nice. She taught us how to throw properly with one and two hands, games to play among your group, techniques, and how to throw the big firemen axe! Arms are definitely sore after this, but well worth it and would love to return with friends to have a friendly competition :) also there's a bar with food and ample seating, pool table, and lots of space for events. This place is pretty new- they just got their alcohol license earlier this week- beer & ciders only for now. They're also waiting on a few more supplies for the lobby area (billiards, etc). It was easy to make reservations for 4 adults (celebrating a couple of birthdays). The check in & waiver process was a breeze. We spent 5-10 minutes with orientation, instructions and safety precautions. Kaylie was a great instructor and gave us tips and tricks to throw better. Once we got the hang of it- the real fun began! Kaylie stayed with us the whole time to keep score and color commentate for the round robin tournament. She was a fun addition to our group. Caleb did a great job taking care of our drinks and snacks. The food menus available are from two neighboring restaurants. We recommend the buffalo chicken flatbread! Went with the family yesterday and had an awesome time! I'm a bit terrified my wife was incredibly good at it, but otherwise I highly recommend for a get-together or an event. I would say a group of 4+ people would be ideal. There's one main lane with 2 individual targets and they have games you can play 1on1 or as a group. Beer is mostly cans. No complaints about the food. I would definitely come here again! Noodles was axe trainer and she was extremely attentive and helpful. Overall a great experience! read more

I cannot say enough good things about the experience Hannah and team (Noodle with excellent service) provided. We had mostly novices ages 20-60s for an 11-person tournament and everyone felt included and encouraged and were landing axes like a pro by the end I will definitely be back as will the rest of the crew! I highly recommend BATL for a corporate event! We were there with around 30 clients this week and I can confidently say this was one of the most well-received events we have hosted. Strawn (the Manager) and his staff - Noodle, London, Devon, and Daniel - were extremely professional, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to ensure our guests had a good time. Safety is definitely a priority for them as well. We had 8 lanes which was perfect for our group as it meant there was less standing around. The friendly competition was a lot of fun and very well-organized (I liked the electronic scoreboard). It's a relaxed atmosphere and they have a bar with beer, cider, and wine and you can have food brought it from neighboring restaurants (quesadillas, nachos, pizzas, etc.). The event lasted around 2 hours, but it sounds like they customize each event to your needs. Thanks to the BATL team - I'll definitely be back (for both work and personal). read more

A little birdie told us about this new place offering up freebies before their opening and we stopped in last Friday to try it out. Since ancient times, man has longed to build fire, cook animals, and throw things at other things...preferably sharp things that will stick into other things. The axe throwing craze finally comes to south Scottsdale! It's in the old Pranksters building so it's a large space. We were greeted by the enthusiastic manager and 3 other employees. Signed a waiver and were given a quick 2-3 minute tutorial...mostly on how to be safe (very important!). Our instructor observed us throw 1-2 times and THEN gave us tips on how to do it better. Sure nuff....my wife stuck her axe on throw 3, I got it on throw 4. We tried double and single arm throws and then after 2 dozen throws, took a 10 minute break. Then attempted again and we hardly missed the target at all! It was really cathartic and felt good to stick that hatchet! They don't have everything set up yet and they told us they will have food service provided by the sports bar connected to it. They have leagues and apparently it's very popular. So go throw sharp things without worrying about getting arrested. You'll feel like Jason Momoa in no time! read more

Who knew throwing axes could be so much fun. BTL knows how to provide safe fun with an edge. Each "cage" has a coach that gives tips and pointers to make you feel successful. The rounds go by quick. My first throw was a bullseye. Did that continue? NO. But my coach never gave up and after a while I was throwing consistent. The coaches are knowledgeable and friendly and as all good coaches should be, BTL coaches were very supportive and positive. Overall the place is clean. If you are not into throwing axes there are a couple of pool tables located inside as well. The beee list is the typical Phoenix offerings. Maybe they will expand to include some of the better craft beers, but for being open just 6 months is doing well. Thank you Yelp for giving me the opportunity to throw an axe! I have not even been here yet. However, I have to leave a review about the patience we received from their booking staff and the local staff in AZ. 14 of us are in AZ for vacation and we had the unfortunate situation of many of our family contracting the flu while staying in very close proximity to each other in a house. We had a reservation at the same time this all happened and we had to call many times to try and accommodate our sick members and ended up asking to move the reservation altogether to give time to those inflicted to get better. The staff at BATL were extremely accommodating and were so very patient and understanding with our situation and made an exception to reschedule our reservation on our vacation. This alone pushed me to leave a great review about their customer service! We cannot wait to have a great time throwing axes and giving them our business. Thank you folks at BATL! read more
