I have been coming to this office to see Dr. Diego for a few months now and I highly recommend him. He is so passionate about his job, which is one of the reasons I trusted him with my care. I had terrible pains in my neck, back, and shoulders. I had seen several other chiropractors and just didn't feel like I was getting any better. Within the first month, I was already seeing results in the decrease of my pain levels. My 4 yr old son also sees Dr. Diego due to bowel issues that he has had since a baby. He was able to help my son have more consistent bowel movements. My son is always excited to go get his "massage" (adjustments) and thinks Dr. Diego is fun! I've been sitting on this for awhile, but here we go... Dr. Bates and his staff are friendly and incredibly accommodating, they were able to work around my schedule so that I could receive treatments. However, the treatments suggested wouldn't have solved my or my daughters issues. Lets go back a bit. My daughter was having some leg issues. She felt an adjustment might do the trick. Her treatment plan was setup for regular adjustments in order to assist with her posture, that would eventually help with her leg. Her pain never got better, the staff told me I met my chiro limit (which I checked with insurance and I hadn't) and would have to pay out of pocket. That didn't sit well and I finally was able to get a referral to an orthopedic specialist. Ends up, her knee cap had dislocated and popped back in. She was setup with physical therapy and chiro adjustments wouldn't have done the job. I was having issues with my shoulders. I saw my GP and an acupuncturist to assist with the pain. Finally, I met with Dr. Bates. he did X-Rays and said I had pinched nerves due to posture. The treatment wasn't covered by insurance and was going to set me back $1kish. The staff was pressing me a bit to get payment setup before I left for the day, but I needed to sit on it to mull over. Instead of his treatment plan I ended up going through my insurance, I wanted some 2nd and 3rd opinions. I met with an ortho specialist and a neurologist for studies. Ends up, I have carpal tunnel, pain in shoulders is actually a symptom. I now meet with a physical therapist to assist in strengthening the muscle and an 2nd ortho surgeon to monitor if I'll need surgery. All agree a chrio plan would not have assisted with this. I'm not slamming Dr. Bates and his team. I do believe me meant well. However, I feel that you should definitely make sure there isn't a bigger issue before agreeing to spend money on a treatment plan that may not assist with what you're experiencing. read more

I'm adding an extra star for the kind staff all around but I'm in agreement with the other reviewers--I felt like I was being sold a timeshare. I didn't get any relief and the second time I went, I felt worse afterward. I was told the only way to truly fix my back, which was described to me (a healthy young person) as facing spinal degeneration lol, would be to come in 3x a week for 8 weeks. For $60 a pop and that's with excellent insurance. I listened to my better intuition and went with another chiro in-network, who gave me a myofascial release massage AND adjustment. Copay: $0. It's been a week and I've been back to normal. I would do your research and find someplace else other than Bates Chiro. And yeah re: COVID, no one is wearing a mask. read more

Dr Bates is fantastic!! Went there with 20-year-old back injury.. he not only adjusted me.. He showed me how to strengthen the muscles around my spine and showed stretches and exercises to do for my hips.. in about 20 sessions I feel much better and am able to do the activities I used to do like surfing ,skating, and boxing without any pain afterwards.. coming from a background of athletic training I recommend Dr Bates to anyone who has had chronic or acute spinal problems. Best chiropractor in California. I have been coming for 24 years. I recommend anyone that has any back issue, hip issue. I had an issue with my last bien where he was breached on week 36. My OBGYN had scheduled a C-Section. Went to Dr. Bates all the way from Whittier where I was living at that time. I was going 3/week and my OBGYN was weekly. After the first week of going my son was head down ready for birth. My OBGYN asked how did I do it? It was honestly so easy and painless. Dr. Bates adjusted my hips, never once hurt me like those crazy YouTube videos of doctors flipping babies. Go to an experienced professional. Another son of mine had scoliosis and we were told he would need therapy. But thankfully Dr. Bates has plenty of experience with scoliosis and after receiving adjustments it was gone. My son's doctor could not believe it either he took an X-ray to plan our next steps for physical therapy and it was gone. Wow, what a shyster! This man is not a doctor, he's a salesman, and if you do not give him your money he will personally insult you and tell you you do not care about your health. He may seem charming and nice but so do any salesmen. He will tell you that despite the fact that you have never, ever had any back or neck pain, never had a bad checkup by a legitimate doctor, and never had any reason to start seeing a chiropractor, that you should start seeing him three times a week. He doesn't even spend five minutes on your adjustment. He will throw you on the table, snap your bones, and throw you out, but he's happy to take the time to tell you all about how much money you need to spend to get better from a problem you don't actually have. He charges exorbitant amounts, unless, of course, you pay almost a thousand dollars up front for a 40-visit plan, then you get a discount. Because apparently to him, the medical profession is a fun little store and the more you buy, the more you save! Whether you need it or not, he'll sell it to you. Save your money and your poor bones. Go see a real chiropractor. I see Dr. Bob Benaderet in Long Beach that charges $25 per session (without some scam 40-session contract), and you get far more than you get with "Dr." Bates. You get an hour on a real heated massage table to loosen you up, an evaluation of what is actually bothering you that day, and a proper adjustment that he takes his time to do right, and never, ever, ever has to insult you to try to get you to see him or pushes you to see him more than you want to or need to. Even if you don't see my chiropractor, find a different one. Don't see Dr. Bates. Your body will thank you later. Edit: After reading many reviews, apparently his popular spiel/scam is to tell people that they are in such bad condition that they NEED to come see him three times a week! This place is a total scam. I went to Bates Chiropractic because I had very specific back pain. I was not treated for my issue, but instead was given an exhaustive and expensive regimen to problems I did not come in for. They required that I got a $50 X-ray before discussing my problem, and when I took the photos out of the envelope before I was supposed to, the assistant snatched them out of my hand. When I left, I asked if I could have my X-rays and they said no. Honestly, the glimpse I caught it didn't look like my back. I have a metal plate in my left shoulder which would have shown up. I am absolutely dumbfounded that people actually trust this man. He is not a doctor. Go sell cars Mr. Bates, and please do not attempt to treat me for problems I don't have. read more

Like son, like father? Apparently so. I had the good fortune of discovering Dr. Rob's son, Aaron Bates when I lived in Camarillo. It was a miracle because he cured a case of sciatica that no one else could. So naturally when I moved back to L.A., I was worried about where I was going to continue my care. Thank goodness Dr. Rob is close enough for me to continue with the same quality care I'd received from his protege son. Dr. Rob's techniques are indeed unique. I found Dr. Bates through my company's In Network list, looked at the reviews, and decided to check him out. I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, they squeezed me in the next day--even though they had no availability until after the weekend--because I told them how much pain I was in. After telling me there was nothing available, Dr. Bates had them call me back and have me come in the next day so he could adjust me. What service! His office is neat and clean and full of useful items to help loosen you up and right yourself on your own before even heading in to get adjusted. The staff are extremely kind, knowledgeable, and helpful, and they're ready and willing to talk with you and answer any questions you may have. They were also very flexible with me about how I paid for my visits, considering my insurance company is kind of a joke when it comes to how they cover chiropractic care. Dr. Bates himself is very personable and gentle when doing the adjustments--but not so gentle that he doesn't get it done! I'm feeling better now that I've been going to see him on a regular basis, and I definitely feel like my phase 2 subluxation will get better from here on out. My only complaint would be that there's no parking--only street parking, and it's metered, so a visit can cost an extra 75c to $2, depending on when you get there and how long your visit takes. 75 cents may not seem like a lot, but when you're on a budget and have to go three times a week, all that parking can add up. I have no recent injury, I just needed an adjustment to help with scoleosis(sp?) back pain. I had to get up about 2 hours early to make it before work, I wasted about 45 minutes in the office. He is always reading up on alternative aides rather than living off of pain killers and harmful medications with multiple side effects. His staff is always upbeat and friendly, they are very knowledgeable also. I was injured while at a pole fitness class and when I say injured, I mean I could not move my left arm I was in so much pain. It was hard for me to do everyday activities like getting dressed. I tried a foam roller, I tried massage, ice, cold compress, Bio-Freeze and rest but I was still in very bad pain a week later! On a Friday, at about 4pm I called Bates Chiropractic I had no idea it was walking distance from my work at the time, and the doctor was not in. Fortunately, the woman who took my call had empathized with my pain and actually gave me his cell phone number! I left a message on his voice-mail and received a call back within about 15 mins! He was out of the office that day but actually told me he would come in for me. I could not believe it! I walked over and he did an x-ray, talked to me about my issue and explained why this occurred. Honestly, I was not sure I believed that my spine could play such a huge role in the pain that was going down my left back and to the front of my breast, it seemed impossible. He was in his workout clothes so I know he really did come in on his off time to see me and that meant a lot to me. He was very caring and knowledgeable but the BEST part was that with only one adjustment after reviewing my x-rays, I woke up the next morning virtually pain free! How? I don't even know. It seemed impossible. I was able to enjoy my vacation that weekend without the pain I was having just one day before! I am still gradually healing but what a difference it made. This review is simply way over due. Dr. Rob Bates is a master of his craft. Let me give an example. I was 260lbs, and in 18-20 years never saw anything below it. I had sciatic pain, headaches daily for 10 years, no core strength and low motivation, I would have colds regularly, and after the first 5 sessions with Dr. Bates, my sciatic pain was gone, headaches gone. I've found myself listening to his logic about self care, and after 1.5 years of his motivation, I'm down 35lbs, I haven't had a headache since my first few visits. My back is stronger than ever, my stance is proper(but he still pushes me), I haven't had a cold in 2 flu seasons. Dr. Bates is the only chiropractor I trust with my ex-athlete, injury-prone body. I've seen many chiropractors over the years, some have hurt me, some over-charged, some do nothing at all. Not Dr. Rob. Dr. Rob doesn't do things the old school way. His adjustments are fast, accurate and effective. He encourages use of the therapy equipment in his clinic at any time, training you to perform exercises before your adjustment each time you come in, which you can do on your own, and also more therapy work after your adjustment. His goal is to educate you to help fix yourself and to help you maintain a healthy body throughout your life. He charges very little compared to his piers, but in my opinion, gives so much more. I have been a fitness professional over 25 yrs, with certifications through ACE, NASM and many others. I am also an ex-pro commercial dancer, elite gymnast, and coach for 2 Olympic Gymnastics Clubs, along with being a dance/acro teacher, and sponsored martial artist for Century Martial Arts Equipment and a member of the Chinese Circus in London back in the 90s. I've seen dozens of sports therapists and chiropractors during my career. My body has been through a lot and it is very easy to hurt my hyper-flexible joints during an adjustment. I can also lightly adjust myself almost everywhere due to my lax joints. Despite this fact, most chiropractors can't manage to fix any of my subluxations and end up causing ligament strains and consequent swelling in my joints. When I first was introduced to Dr. Rob, I was skeptical he would be any better or provide a different outcome. Instead, he has saved my spine! Not only this, but without me telling him about it or asking for his help, he found a chronic hip complaint I had been dealing with for years that only manifested during extreme activity. Basically it only caused me issues when I tried to hold my leg above my waist line without using any hands for a prolonged amount of time. Especially out to the side. For dancers, I basically couldn't devlope and extend my leg in 2nd at all! Since retiring from professional dancing, I didn't bother to go through the process of trying to fix this complaint for about 18 yrs since I could do everything else I needed to do just fine. I had retired entirely from dancing at all by the time I met Dr. Rob. Within 2 weeks of starting to see him, I could lift my leg again. I went back to dancing for fun after that and was able to do things I never thought I'd get to do again, including perform on stage again. read more

I really don't like writing unfavorable reviews, especially when I had a referral from two trusted sources, but I don't want others to waste time and money on what turned out to be poorly executed marketing pitch to get me to commit to an intensive 3-day per week treatment program for three months to a year, without much concern or willingness to treat the acute pain I was in at the time. I had what I think was a pinched a nerve in my neck and was in excruciating pain. When I called for an appointment I asked if I could be treated right away and was given an appointment right away. When i saw the Dr. I asked if I would receive an adjustment that day and he put me off and talked me into spending $50 (discounted from $150!) for x-rays. I asked again if I could be treated because I was in excruciating pain and he said, no, he had to review the x-rays and I could come back. There were so many red flags during that meeting, and most questions he asked me were of a marketing nature, not medical, like "On a scale of 1-10, how committed are you to getting better?" When I left, the zombie-eyed receptionist asked me, "Can you tell me one reason why you might not keep your next appointment?" I guess someone took a cheesy marketing seminar about client retention. :) Two days later, I came back for the reading of the x-rays and was told the bad news was that my spine was in horrible shape and the good news was that he could fix it. How? He only showed me part of the x-rays until I asked to see the whole spine, and I asked again if he was going to treat me. He then asked if now that I had seen the sad shape of my spine --the x-rays didn't look all that bad to me-- was I willing to commit to a treatment plan 3 days per week for the next three months. I said definitely not, and asked about 1 day per week. At that point, the good Dr. crumpled up the sheet of paper he was writing notes on, got up and said we were finished. Very unprofessional. "But wait," I said! "What about 1 day per week? What about the pain I'm in right now? What about costs? You didn't even mention costs." He refused to talk further and walked out ahead of me. He said he couldn't work with me if I didn't commit to 3 days per week. To his credit, he did say the door would be open if I decided to come back. Ha! Later I called to ask for a copy of my x-rays and was given a disc that doesn't have images on it that my computer can read. Please stay away from this one. Save your time and money. Get massages and do exercises for your neck pain. I did and I'm feeling 100% better two weeks later. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Rob for less than a year and I am convinced that he is the most dedicated doctor I have ever met. His knowledge and passion makes him a joy to work with. The office atmosphere is great. The ladies behind the desk are so friendly and welcoming; they genuinely care about everyone who walks through the door. Covid Related Review: I want to be clear upfront this is a Covid related review and not necessarily about the treatment/level of Chiropractic care from this practice. I went in yesterday and none of the staff including the Dr. were wearing masks. I was the first appointment and desperately needed an adjustment and was wearing a mask so I continued the appointment despite being uncomfortable by the lack of precautions being taken. By the end of my appointment the waiting room was PACKED, no distancing as I have experienced in other waiting rooms where typically they space out patients in efforts to not have lots of people in confined spaces. Some of the patients had masks on but not all. There are three treatment tables spaced about a foot apart in one small room and they were allowing multiple patients to be on the tables at the same time in very close proximity. Also, I did not see anyone wiping down any of the equipment. It may have been done after I left but I didn't see anyone attempting to sanitize the area. The only precaution I saw was cups for clean/dirty pens for signing in/paperwork which is kind of ridiculous to have that in place but aren't wearing a mask. I called the next day to cancel because I did not feel safe and the woman who appears to do the scheduling was very alarmed/confused as she had supplied the office with adequate masks and cleaning supplies, they were just simply not being used. I did have a good adjustment but wanted to make others aware that even though you can get a $100 ticket walking out the door without a mask on, widespread proven science that masks prevent the spread of covid and even our president finally "getting used to the masks" the office staff of a medical office and Doctor didn't deem it was necessary for them to wear one to protect their patients. read more

Let me start off by saying that I'm in my 40s and have been to several other chiropractors in the past so I have an idea of who knows what they are doing and who doesn't. I was having a small amount of soreness in my lower back and only wanted one adjustment. I scheduled an appointment on the phone and specifically requested an adjustment. When I get there, I got an hour long spheel about how a 'perfect back and neck are supposed to look etc' and even got quizzed on it! X-rays were taken and I never even got an adjustment. I asked the doctor about it and he said he was too busy and I would have to come back (which meant paying even more money). I made another appointment and finally got an adjustment (at this point I should have gone somewhere else). But before even getting an adjustment, I was shown my x-rays and told what terrible shape my back was in and that it was going to cost $2000 and taken 3 months to get it repaired....seriously? I've never felt so much pressure to buy something in my life. How would they know it would take 3 months and what real doctor asks you to prepay for services?? I'm in great health, work out on a regular basis, teach boxing for a living and am at a very healthy weight...no way is my back in that bad of a shape. It's very clear that Dr. Bates pays his staff on commissions and how many "packages" they can sell. Never, never, never will I go back nor will I recommend this place to anyone I know. This office needs to make a certain amount each month to pay its rent and do whatever they need to do to make that money. They don't care about the patients, only their pocketbooks. read more

Wish I could give this place a zero star review but let me start of by saying I have not read any of the other reviews... I am a motorcycle technician and I work on my feet all day in weird positions and on top of that I practice jui jitsu four times a week... well something happened and I was in pain... not the hey my back feels kinda sore today pain I'm talking the horrible pain that doesn't let you sleep and when you do wake up good luck getting up from bed. I saw the stars on this place and decided to give it a shot and on top of that it had a fifty dollar credit for any session so I figured why not.... I called and made an appointment. Monday I go in and wait... I'm called in by the receptionist and she goes over some basics... no biggie. She proceeds to tell me about different spinal conditions and tries to sell me on some package deal of treatment plans??? I politely ask her how she was trying to sell me anything before the "DR." Even saw me... she explained he would be in shortly In comes the "dr." (I'm using the quotes because he is not a doctor, forget the papers on the wall) he gives me the exact same lines that she did... (sounds like it was all pretty well rehearsed) and proceeds to tell me that he needed to take xrays to properly diagnose the issue... blah blah blah I agree and somehow it costs me 50 bucks for xrays they say I can request to keep ... WITH TEN DAYS NOTICE!!! Thay was monday I go back on wednsday for a follow up to the xrays and find out what is going on .... in comes the receptionist blah blah blah she gives me the whole diagnosis and tries ohhh so hard to sell me on a 40 session plan!!! That's when I said woah woah woah hold on these are my exact words " with no disrespect who the hell are you.. normally when a doctor gives his patients the news... the doctor does it personally not thru his secretary. I've spent over two hours at this clinic and this "dr. Bates" has only seen me for a total of five minutes." Went in for back and neck pain. They made me buy $200 worth of equipment to use at home. The treatment was really too intense. He was trying to correct a spine imbalance that has developed over 30 years in 30 days. I stopped doing the at home exercises and going in after 2 weeks because I was hurting more after each treatment! I ended up finding a great orthopedic surgeon who agreed with the underlying problems, but she is treating it totally differently - with rest, followed by strengthening exercises and better habits. read more

Dr. Bates and his super star staff helped me get thru a very rough time. I injured my back thru a combination of exercise, yard work, and getting old. I got to the point where I could not tie my own shoes and then enough was enough. Physical therapy did not help (2 months of it). A friend recommended Dr. Bates to me and I went for a consultation. He prescribed a 3 month, 3 times a week plan that really worked. I don't understand folks who are looking for immediate results with their back. How anyone thinks they can undo a lifetime of damage in 1 week is beyond me. Like anything else you get out of therapy what you put into it. Best corrective care I've been too. I love all the exercises dr rob gives me. I've been feeling less stiff in the morning ever since doing my spinal molding exercises. My favorite part about his office his the vibe u get when u walk in. Everyone is working on their spinal molding excises in the front room. I noticed that the more I do my exercises as recommend my spine moves better during my adjustments. I've been to a few Chiropractors and dr rob has the best touch. His adjustments are gentle but get the job done. And his hours work great with my busy schedule.
