Today was a weird experience. Some of the ice cream was fluffy kinda like air was pumped into it. So it didn't like staying on the cone. The Ofer scoop I had was basin Robbins firm and stayed on the cone just fine. My mother had the same this one flavor was fluffy and the other was the normal hard pack consistency of what we can to expect. The taste was on par but we had to eat the ice cream way too fast because of the fluffy scoop. The service was prompt and efficient. The store was clean and bright. One might call the store cheery! I haven't been to a 31 flavors in years!! The decor has not changed, not even the flooring tile but a few of the flavors have. My favorite thing was when I asked for a waffle cone I did have to wait a minute while they made one. There was a little extra chocolate in the bottom of my cone. They still offer free samples of flavors, but I jumped in and got a double scoop- Nutty Coconut and Tax Crunch- both good. I would even consider the Nutty Coconut in a larger take home size. I'm lucky enough to live just a few blocks from this location. Service is kind of a toss up. They provide a service to the community by hiring young people but it's not often that I see the same face twice. Except for the owner.... He's been a fixture for many years. One of the few ice cream spots open all year and I'm a fan of hard pack. Besides rolling the dice on service the place is usually pretty clean and they meet my needs. You have many flavors and they were good, but where are these two different ice creams dishes out like this by the same server? We had Reece's and jamocha almond ice cream scoops. This is the best place in the area to get real ice cream. I know it is a chain but the family that runs it seems to really care about their work. Like the name suggests it has a ton of flavors to choose from. They also do cakes and hand scooped quarts of ice cream. The guy who scooped out mine made sure to get the right weight and didn't just try to fill it quickly and give less. Overall I'll be back for sure! read more

I worked here about 2 years ago the lady who hired me was so sweet & nice but her husband I believe was terrible the first day I went in I was told to just sit & wait so I did nth else was said then he was being all mean & telling me to hurry up & come to the back. A girl asked me my shirt sized & before I could even answer he screams to get me a large. There was another new guy there too & he was just expecting us to know what to do on our first day being very mean wasn't trying to help or anything. When my shift finally ended & I was leaving we had to split the tips & he turns to me & says tips are for people who do work if I don't do work I won't get the tips anymore ON MY FIRST DAY! My daughter had requested an ice cream cake for her birthday and during my search I found a moana one at Baskin Robbins! I placed on order online which was very easy an convenient. I got a call the next day and they said they were out of the Moana Decorations but offered me a variety of other choices. After a talk with my daughter she decided she just wanted the Oreo topped cake instead. Day of, went to pick it up. It was ready on time and looked great! The staff was very friendly and I was refunded some of my money for not having the decor. Brought a cooler and it held up great on the 30 minute ride home. Ice cream cake was delicious! Placed a order inside the store for an Ice Cream Cake for my mother's 60th birthday. I was told they could put 60th on the cake like the picture online, which was in cursive and rather large on the cake and the cake would be ready at 2 pm the next day. 11:30 am the following day the manager called and told me that he was unable to make my cake because he couldn't do the design. Almost two hours before I was to pick up the cake I was asked what else would I like. I told him I wanted what I ordered and he told me that 1) I didn't order 24 hours in advance and 2) they should have told me that the design wasn't available because no one there was able to do it. I told him all of this was his issue because it had nothing to do with me. It was very apparent to him that I wasn't going to take no for an answer so he ended our conversation telling me the cake would not be finished until 5pm (3 hours later than I was told it would be ready.) At 2pm I got a call saying my cake was ready to be picked up. With all the arrangements I had to get someone else to pick up the cake. Epic fail. Yes, they did the design but got lazy and placed a crazy flag with 60th in the middle. So disappointed and will never use this dump again. read more

11 years ago my wife ordered a birthday ice cream cake for me on the phone. She told the owner that she had a $3 off coupon. When she went to pick the cake up he wouldn't take the coupon. The next year she again called in a birthday cake with the $3 off coupon. When she picked it up he refused to honor the coupon. I wrote Baskin Robbins corporate. They told him to honor the coupons. The coolers have duct tape on them, the floorboard had been stripped off, the freezers with the ice cream cakes were leaking water on the floors. It seemed clean, but just so worn out. I love Baskin Robbins ice cream but I'm rating this solely off of the service. It was terrible! The two girls working- one with blonde hair in a bun and the other with black hair with blue/green streaks- were so rude to everyone. It was the 31st so they had the $1.31 scoop deal and literally looked like they wanted to kill every customer. I asked the girl for sprinkles and she poured the entire container of sprinkles on my ice cream, slammed it down on the counter, sprinkles flying everywhere, and then stormed off. The place was disgusting even for being busy- these girls were slopping ice cream all over, the waffle cone maker had flies hovering over it so I definitely opted for the cup instead of cone. I hope the franchise owner and manager read these reviews because these girls are terrible. Next time I'll be sure to go to Cold Stone! read more

I've been here twice in the past couple of months. The first time, it was pretty busy around 6 or 7 on a Sunday. The second time, today, was around 7 on a Thursday and there was only one family in there. My suggestion for any ice cream place is this- if you don't like to wait, don't go during peak times. I like the variety of flavors to choose from. So far I've had the Praline & Cream, Mama's Cookies, and the Carmel Truffle. All have been d-licious. Today, I had the Carmel Truffle as a warm ice cream sandwich. I would highly recommend this. I wasn't asked what cookie I wanted, I was just given the praline because that's all that were out at the time. I did notice two packs of cookies sitting out on the counter of chocolate and chocolate chip, thawing perhaps. Had I really not liked Praline I would have said something but it was damn good. Other reviews have expressed how run down this place is and how much the service sucks. I concur, This place is old and run down, the bathroom is especially unsightly. There were no towels to dry my hands off with which made me wonder what the staff were drying their hands on... but that isn't a deal breaker for me. The service isn't outstanding but it's not horrible either.. not bad enough to keep me away :) All in all, this BR is by far not my favorite ice cream or ice cream establishment in Des Moines but they take cards (unlike Snookie's) and from a proximity stand point, it is pretty close to my house.
