Don't bother checking their business hours online. They close early when they feel like it and service is trash.

Delicious ice cream in a cleaner-than-usual environment. Not too busy or loud. Lots of coffee.

Then Caputo's whispered - in bright neon - OPEN. Could it be true? At 10:22? Yea. And yay! This new homemade shop brings the goods with a huge list of flavors to enjoy. Top notch quality ingredients*, perfect texture, great flavor, the whole 9 yards. The banana ripple was the perfect gooey balance of banana and fudge. The peach Melba has chunks of peach, fantastic in every bite. Then there's the cookie dough... I forget the name but it's the one that included other cookies as well. That was my pint, reasonably priced and expertly assembled. Even though I was there at closing they kept insisting I take my time and answered every question about flavors and ingredients. *Several that I wanted to try appeared to have artificial color. I stay away from that and advised them there, as I do here, to avoid its use. Apple shouldn't be green... Anyway, other than that, this special place has plenty going for it, and I think I have finally found ice cream that stands up to my local favorite Curly's. Caputo's takes the crown as the best food in East Hanover... okay, in my mind that title has been vacant for 25 years since Cobb's went away... but you get the idea. (:

It's sort of Flushing very West. Often we are among the few diners who are not Asian. Food is excellent, authentic and reasonable. Yes I said reasonable. Quantities are large and often you take home leftovers for tomorrow. The kitchen is very accommodating to vegetarians, or just don't eat some food like pork and those who want less spicy food. Great dishes - I go with several mostly adventurous eaters so here goes - Cumin Lamb, Dan Dan noodles, Beef and Tripe with Chili Sauce (true confession I love tripe), Hot and Sour soup, Hunan Fried Fish with Spicy Sauce, Hunan Whole Braised Fish and Sichuan Mapo and Sichuan Fried Fish. One absolutely wonderful dish is Eggs with Tomatoes, which is sort of street food in China, as well as in many other cultures. It's simple and delicious. I've taken to making it at home using a New York Times recipe. But don't think the "regular" dishes aren't prepared with the same care and aren't as tasty. They are. The setting is pleasant and they have several tables with Lazy Susans so you can swirl food around. Service is prompt and quick. And if you get a dinner, you get ice cream!

I enjoyed a delectable dinner last night that was wonderful from start to finish. The figtastic martini was addictive! It was the perfect combination of fig flavored vodka, pomegranate juice, elderflower liqueur and fresh lemon. For starters, I tried the spinach and artichoke dip that was topped with crispy bacon that wasn't greasy. Also, I tried garlic parmesan pretzel sticks with a really tasty cheese sauce. For my entree, I had a delicious burger that was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by fries that weren't greasy. The burger and fries was a sizable portion, but I still managed to make room for dessert. The brownie with ice cream that I had was fantastic, but I absolutely will order the house-made bread budding that my friend said was to die for! Our server, Erick, was attentive, knowledgeable and very pleasant. I will absolutely be back, particularly for that bread pudding!
