Due to moving from Atlanta, this is our third preschool experience and Epiphany has the spark of magic I want for my kids. The community events help me reflect on the changes in nature and the joy of friendship. The staff have this ability to remember all that each young child holds most precious, while also having the patience to get them dressed in the right gear for all the different weather. (The gear is important, but they give great lists to help parents be prepared and we've been able to get almost everything on Buy Nothing from our Neighborhood group so it hasn't added extra cost.) I regret not pulling him from the school immediately when he complained of an adult putting her hands on him. She would pull him by the arm when he refused to walk with her. I complained and requested that he never be alone with her. Additionally the CSS principal is either uncaring and incompetent. The school has had budget cuts and no longer had a full time psychologist for the CSS kids. Instead they've hired very poor IAs and a woman who worked in law enforcement. My son has the same teacher for two years and she absolutely did not care about the kids or her job. It was evident that she'd given up trying.

He wanted to play with the toys and didn't want to transition to the next room without crying. The school complained about him that day in regards to that incident. They seemed to have no empathy towards my son and did not extend any courtesy on allowing him to get comfortable with the teachers, environment or learn their routine. The following week, I was completely caught off guard by receiving an email that states they came to a conclusion that they can't handle his outbursts and feel that he needs extra support that they can't give and that they PRAYED about it with the other staff and felt like God gave them HIS blessing that they should give up on this sweet 4 year old boy. I mean, of course, God doesn't want a child to learn more about Him and the Bible, that makes total sense! I was stunned by this remark and am disgusted how they would weaponize prayer to enhance their personal, inconceivable agenda. They also used an excuse that they are a small school which is nonsense because now my son is at a small school and the teacher there is more than accommodating on giving him time to get to know him, understand his personality and allow him to get familiar with their learning techniques. Almost all schools that I talked to while trying to find a new school agreed with me on that and thought it was absolutely ridiculous for him to be kicked out and judged so quickly. Way of faith has NO FAITH in a child to adapt at their own pace and doesn't seem interested in wanting to bring out the best in your child. If your child doesn't fit their mold they will kick you out and you will be scrambling to figure out what to do next. I'm glad my son is too young to understand this situation because this would have hurt him to know he was not accepted and given up on. I never would have expected a Christian school to do this.

What stands out to me is that the teachers are here because they care and not because they need the money. The teachers are older which means they have more experience and are not going to leave the second they find a job that pays better (an experience we had at another local preschool). The school is "old school" so unlikely another local preschool we were at that played Paw Patrol and PJ Masks episodes every day, there is almost no screen time (just on rainy days when they can't go to the playground). Finally, the class size is small (about 5 kids). Not only does this mean more one on one attention, but in this era where everyone is worried about getting sick, I value my kids being able to attend school and me getting my work done. (In comparison, the other preschool my kids attended had 20-24 kids per class and I did not have a single week that at least one of my kids was home sick for at least a day.)

It has taken me quite a while to write this review, mostly because I've been avoiding reliving the horrible events that led up to it. My daughter was just over 2.5 years old when she was enrolled here in April 2022. As a pandemic kid, she had never been in any sort of daycare setting and did not have many opportunities to be in social or group settings until her first day at Cedar Lane. Nonetheless, she was (and remains) a highly sociable, sweet dispositioned and inquisitive little explorer who soaks up knowledge like a sponge. As first time parents, we were so excited to widen her world with a Montessori education, but Ceder Lane sullied the whole experience for us. Within the first two hours of drop-off, we got a call from an exasperated Ms. Pamela saying that our child was refusing to sit and listen, just wanted to play with toys, and was requiring more attention than the other kids. None of these things sounded developmentally abnormal to me, as it was her FIRST DAY away from home, and yet Ms. Pamela had the gall during that FIRST conversation to suggest we consider an Early Intervention Program for her. I immediately called our pediatrician who was flabbergasted by this suggestion. The Pediatrician said they recommend at least 3 weeks for a child to adjust to a new routine and environment and for any sort of recommendation to b made within 2 hours was completely out of pocket. We asked Cedar Lane to work with us by allowing her to come in for 1-2 hours a day for the first couple of weeks to get acclimated. We did this for a few days and noticed that our child's face was completely red and puffy each time we picked her up from crying. A few days later, we were called in for a meeting with Ms. Tabitha, the Director, who said our child can't self-regulate. I was taken aback by this assessment given the fact that no 2.5 year old can self-regulate, and teaching them to do so is the whole point of preschool programs at that age. Our child did not hit, bite, push or disrespect others personal space. The only thing she was doing "wrong" was wanting to explore the classroom during circle time and she was labeled as having a "problem" because of that! Mind you, this was still within the FIRST WEEK of her being in a new environment. Isn't discovery and independent exploration a main tenet of the Montessori method? During our meeting, we asked that they work with our daughter and develop a performance improvement plan, and at least give her the recommended amount of time from the Pediatrician of 3 weeks to adjust. Ms. Tabitha refused, and tried to hand us informational paperwork for a developmental psychiatrist. She kept reiterating that they can't make medical diagnosis but were at the same time diagnosing our child as needing a developmental psychiatrist. Our pediatrician thought this recommendation was ridiculous, after having closely evaluated her and never seen even a single marker or indication of any sort of developmental issue. We pulled our daughter out of Cedar Lane after a mere week of her being there for 1-2 hours a day only. We re-enrolled her somewhere else, where she has been for the last 2 years. Lo and behold, her new school has never once indicated that she has had any issue at all. Our parent-teacher conferences always include glowing assessments of her as an extraordinarily intelligent child, a leader in the classroom, academically advanced, sweet, funny, and a pleasure to be around. Can you imagine if we had taken Cedar-Lanes half-baked assessment to heart? In retrospect, I believe they labeled her as a problem because they are severely understaffed and under trained. They have the among the highest student-teacher ratios in the area. They probably just didn't have the resources to properly educate the children in their charge, and so culled the herd by axing out the least docile of the group. This is an institution that will shift blame from their own shortcomings onto CHILDREN who bear no responsibility for the schools own failures. I'd give zero stars if I could!

Children were often given toys to play without caregivers interaction all day. Caregivers weren't properly trained to manage the room and instead yelled and aggressively taken toys away. I didn't sign up for this environment, and it's sign of merely exploited for financial gain.Lacks of interest in children's education and fails to provide a caring and safe learning environment. It is not only about meeting the expectations, this center does not meet standards as a daycare.
