Honest Review of My Car Purchase Experience This review is a mix of highs and lows. Let's start with the positives: Pros: Jim in Service was outstanding--informative, helpful, and someone I truly trust. My current car is waiting on a back-ordered part, and because of my confidence in Jim, I felt comfortable making the decision to buy a new car and eventually pass mine down to my daughter. The negotiation process was smooth. Mick and Nate were super helpful and efficient, making the purchase experience pleasant. Cons: Brandon, the warranty guy, was condescending and disrespectful. When I declined the warranty based on Consumer Reports reliability studies, he suggested I wouldn't be in this position if I had purchased a warranty on my other car (which wasn't true) and went so far as to call my decision "foolish." After spending over $30,000, that kind of treatment left a sour taste. Picking up the car was disappointing. Even though it was a certified gold vehicle, I drove off with the gas light on. Thankfully, Nate met me at a Speedway to fill it up, but it took away from the excitement of the moment. Cleanliness issues. Since taking the car home, I've found spider nests in the hatch molding and dog hair on the back seat upholstery--definitely not what I'd expect from a certified vehicle. Final Thoughts: I love the car, and 99% of the staff treated me well, but there were some frustrating and deflating moments in the process. I have been interested in the 2025 Crown Signia for months. I contacted at least 5 dealers in the area and asked to be notified when it came in. I test drove a Camry and interacted with Donny regarding my new car wishes. The Basil Toyota test drive was a very pleasant experience even though I asked a zillion questions. A few days later, I was surprised to get a call from Donny at Basil saying the Signia had just come in from Japan. We test drove it the next day. I drove it home by 6 PM. The buying experience was smooth with no surprises after getting a good price. Donny was helpful both before and after the purchase. We live 2 hours away from the dealership and were interested in a vehicle on their lot. Made a appointment the day before and was set to go look. 20 minutes before our arrival they re-confirmed the appointment and when we arrived they stated they had just sold the vehicle but we could look at other more expensive vehicles. I believe they never even had the vehicle and used it to lure people to get in the door and miracle of miracles it's still on their site and it looks like they modified the photos from another dealership. Took my car in for a NYS state inspection and everything went great.They send a video to your phone and email to exactly of what they are looking at. In my case I needed rear brakes thanks to another shop not properly installing rear brake hardware which caused dangerous wear on my drivers side pad and rotor. Put 100$ deposit on car after talking to the salesman, donny about warranty, later the insurance guy says it's more than 3× as much. I say that this indicates they think the car could be a lemon. He agrees "thats why it's so high" so I call off purchase. They have not given back deposit. I will edit this review if they do. We had scheduled an appointment to see a vehicle here. Upon arriving, another couple was test driving the car, despite us having made an appointment. After saying we wanted to buy the car, the dealership low-balled our trade in by $6,200 (Kelly Blue Book said the car was worth $8,200 for a fair trade in value; they offered us $2,000). We spent an hour haggling over the trade in value, and then the manager came back and said that the vehicle has been sold to the other couple who was test driving the car when we arrived. If they had not low-balled us so egregiously on our trade in, we would have been able to purchase the vehicle; however, this dealership was stringing along two different parties at once to sell the same vehicle to, which seems like a very slimy practice, seeing that one party was never going to be able to actually purchase the vehicle if the other party purchased it. read more

I have been looking for a used 4Runner and found an older 2013 on the Basil Toyota website. Having purchased 2 different Toyota's in the past 2 years from Basil Toyota, I felt confident about looking at a 3rd. I emailed the sales dept. around 10am on Monday the 5th of July. Having the day off was a perfect time to go look at this 4Runner. I washed my Tundra that I planned to trade in and drove over an hour to Basil Toyota for a 2pm appointment to look at this 2013 4Runner. I was informed it was just in and had not been detailed. With 4 hours to my appointment I thought just maybe it would be presentable. I arrived a little before 2pm and the 4Runner was parked close to the showroom so I walked over to it, opened the doors and saw an extra set of tires, thats good! I could tell it had not been detailed but I made the trip so lets have a good look. I opened the hood to take a look. The Robin's nest was very big and there was still an egg in the nest. This 4Runner had to have been sitting for months for a Robin to move in like this. I walked inside asking for the sales person I was told to ask for, he was busy so a young woman came out and introduced herself. She wanted to get my information but I asked her to come look at this first. I showed her my shiny Tundra for a trade then walked over to the 2013 4Runner. When she saw the nest she said, Oh My! Another employee was reaching to [pull the nest out and said it hasn't been detailed.. No Sh#@* I drove over an hour with a 4 hour window to have this vehicle look like this?? I will never be back. Recently purchased a used car at this dealership. Disappointed to find one salesperson completely dismissive, and another in need of some basic instructions on professionalism and communication. First person handed us to someone ewould not even negotiate, gave a story about auctions as an excuse, assuming I do not know how they work because I'm a woman, not realizing I understood it was not a valid reason. We were able to get the cost reduced with another salesman within minutes. A third was friendly enough but handled communication poorly. There's a first time for everything - the whole experience at Basil Toyota was exceptional! We live about 100 miles away and used the SmartPath process to buy our truck WITH a trade-in via phone and text. Hannah's responsiveness was above expectation, the deal was fair, and we submitted our deposit just over an hour after making the initial inquiry. While we waited for the truck to arrive on lot from the manufacturing plant, Mike Otwell kept us in the loop and kept things moving. Mike was responsive, efficient, and honest - NOT a stereotypical "car salesman." We happily took delivery yesterday and Mike was very attentive and helpful in explaining the vehicle features and completing the sale. I purchased a new car from Basil Toyota on 6/30/22. They recorded the sale on 6/22/22, 8 days before the purchase date. Toyota Corp accepted the inaccurate date. For 7 weeks I've tried to get Basil (salesman and 2 different managers) to correct this problem without success. I spoke to the second manager after calling Toyota Corp Customer Care. She assured me that she would take care of the issue. I had several observations on how the sales person had failed to be transparent about pricing and preparing the car for delivery. Very unprofessional and deceptive. The manager seemed interested in finding out more about those issues. So far, after 4 weeks, I haven't heard back after 2 phone calls to her. They don't seem committed to doing what they lead you to believe they'll do! My opinion of their customer service capabilities is very low. Makes me wonder how they might feel if they were treated/ignored in a similar fashion. They continually state that they want customers to be happy but don't seem to understand what it's like to show consideration and respect for those who so misguidedly choose to do business with them. I will attempt to keep this brief. I was in touch with someone from the dealership for about 2-3 days via email. They had a used truck that I liked a lot however, I live a 2-hour drive from them. I made an appointment to look at the truck and went the next day. I told the guy who I assumed to be the sales rep that if everything checked out with the truck I want to buy it and drive it home the same day so I wouldn't have to travel the 2 hrs again and he made me believe that would be possible. I arrived at the dealership and a sales rep who I did not know or ever speak to told me he would be handling me. I thought I was going to deal with the guy I have been talking to for 3 days. Fine, whatever. That is when the unknown sales rep. Told me that the truck had not been through their service dept yet and I would not be able to drive away with it that day. This got me irritated. I still test drove the truck and loved it, but the thought of driving back 2 hours was not appealing. I have a very busy schedule and it is tough to take that kind of time out of a day. I told them I was angry that I drove 2 hours to deal with someone I haven't spoken to and the truck is not even ready. They knew I was coming! I would have probably stayed and closed a deal with them still at that point, but the unknown sales rep. told me to hold on 3 different times so he could go check his phone while another guy who came from nowhere stood with me and attempted to butter me up. I feel like I was just another sucker to them. They did not care that I wasted 4 hours of my precious time driving there and back and to top it off after my wife and I left frustrated and angry, they attempted to call me on my cell phone to get me to come back. I purchased a vehicle from Basil a couple years ago. The sales representative that sold me the truck also sold me on the paint warranty. Being that I was trading in a vehicle, his sales pitch was that I could increase my future trade in value since the paint warranty would cover scratches, paint chips, and dings. Come to find out recently that this was in fact a lie and that the paint warranty is only for "environment damage such as acid rain" and would not cover touch up marks. I called basil to speak to a senior manager (Ryan) to see where the disconnect was; unfortunately there was no common courtesy to return my call. Seeing that the Niagara Falls area was closest to me, I contacted a couple of dealers in that area to save on shipping costs. I first talked with Mick Colucci, who put me in touch with Scott Roeser. They both were very attentive to my questions, and never having made a long distance car purchase or a plug-in electric car purchase, I had many questions. They didn't charge a premium over MSRP when many dealers did, and they coordinated the shipping seamlessly. They kept in touch while the car was in transit to the US, and followed up after my delivery to make sure I understood everything I needed about the car. Car had numerous defects that seller was acting ignorant about. Turns out this model i got (2018 kia sorento) has numerous engine issues including potential fire hazard based on research and testimonies from others who have purchased it. Within 30 days my car is essentially a dud because it now needs a whole new engine. They took advantage of the situation that I was in as I was pressed for time and starting a new job that required a reliable commute and this car seemed to be in great condition (also let them know that my previous car was stolen hence why I needed a new one fast). Broke down along the i90 after laying my grandmother to rest up in lake george and all I can say is thank god I wasnt in a remote area, otherwise I would have been really in a bind dealing with getting a tow. Spoke with the Director of Sales Operations /GM Ryan Hunter and he was unreliable, trying to twist my concerns and complaints to relay it as being my own fault ultimately, even being as a brash as calling me "threatening" because I use my hands to talk and was quite exasperated at the situation. They are soulless creatures who wander aimlessly looking for poor average joes like myself to get over on. Avoid if you can and never trust a word they say because theyll charge 14 grand to replace your engine without any recourse. I am at the mercy of their extended warranty which they keep pointing to as the solution to all of my problems. Oh, and the engine is used! So there is still a good chance I deal with the same situation again because this is a faulty model to begin with. They have no empathy and are just money grubbing lemon bandits. read more

My lease was coming to an end in a year and I wanted to trade in early and the dealership that I was with previous to BASIL didn't have any vehicles I liked so I figured I'd give BASIL a shot because there were no other Toyota dealerships closer to me other than the one I was currently with at the time it was quite a ways further than my Previous dealership and way further from my house but the fact that I don't have to visit the dealership very often I figured I'd give it a shot anyway right off the bat and this should've been a sign right there and I probably should've walked out then but when I walked in given the current car market I was expecting to be bombarded by several salesman tripping over each other for my business however that wasn't the case I walked in and was walking around and stood there for quite a few minutes not that long but in a dealership would be considered a long time to not be approached by a salesman there was no receptionist in the front and no salesman or woman approached me for quite a few minutes which was a shocking surprise when a salesman finally did approach me after I kind of looked into the office window as to kinda Unverbally say hey does anyone wanna make a sale today I told him I was looking for a new vehicle they had 2 new vehicles on the lot two 2022 Highlanders one was already being looked at by another customer and they had another one a 2022 Toyota Highlander xse all black with red interior which I really liked so I test drove it and ended up leasing it after working on a payment plan which I am now a little bit regretting the down payment I did feel a little pressured to put down way more than what I wanted to put as a down payment but that's mostly on me don't get me wrong I am extremely happy with the vehicle I leased and like it better than what I had previously but I did feel a little bit pressured into putting way more down then I wanted to but that like I said is mostly on me and I don't really blame the salesman for that and now to the second issue that i had and now a little bit of a backstory so I can explain another negative issue with this dealership so with the vehicle I had previously which I got from a well-known local dealership I was looking through my manual one time and seen that I could put my windows down with the key fob but it was a feature that had to be programmed by the dealership so I went to the dealership and they did it for me so I wanted to do the same thing with my Highlander I forgot to mention it when I leased it so a week or 2 later I went back to the service center to have it done I got checked in and then was told that it was going to be frigging $80 which is completely insane so needless to say I said screw that and left and I was pissed because I drove all that way for nothing and to charge $80 for something that my previous dealership did for free is absolutely frigging ridiculous there is no way it should cost $80 there is no reason or excuse to charge that much all they have to do is literally hook a tablet up to the car change a couple settings by pushing a couple buttons on the tablet and you're done I've watched a dealership do it on a YouTube video so it's not like they have to take the car apart or do hours of labor it's hooking a damn tablet up to a car and pushing a couple buttons on the screen completely insane so given these experiences don't think I will be returning to basil Toyota when my lease is up will more than likely return to my previous dealership read more

I asked about getting it done at least three times before picking up the vehicle, and they said they will call me to bring vehicle back in. I took my vehicle in to have a noise checked out coming from under my passenger seat. They called and the service man made it sound like no big deal, easy fix; we said go ahead fix it. $1500 later, the issue was still there. We told them they never told us the price and agreed, gave us a free detail worth $200. Woo hoo -_- Took it back for the detail and they peeled the paint off my tires, didn't even notice till I pointed it out, and said thy didn't know it was painted. Plenty of people paint their rims, we have power washed them plenty of times, and they blamed the power washing ( it was their chemicals they should have known not to use if they've ever detailed a car) Also did an inspection and told me the parking brake lines needed to be replaced, would be $130 each, then $240 for labor (2 hrs). I get there will be an up charge. But the brake lines are $60 each. Cmon. When we explained why we had the free detail they apologized again and did not offer to reduce the charge for ruining the tires Never been happy with them and wouldn't have even got the detail or inspections from them if it wasn't free, now it will Actually be costing me money to get al the paint off my tires that have perfectly lasted 2 years. The manager will call me back and probably offer $15 iff my now $500 brake brake replacement. I'll have it done for $250 through ANYONE ELSE. read more

Your service dept is the worst piece of crap I have ever been to. My car overheated and drove directly to your service dept. They told us that the clamps are bad. They are not replacing them. They did one clamp. I was told that that is all we are doing. You have to take care of the rest your self. I paid for one year extended warranty on the car. YOU GUYS SUCK at customer service. I was interested in a Toyota Supra so there was a discounted price on their website. It also stated if you fill out your information, you can get an E-Price. So I completed the online form and submitted it and instantly an Eprice showed. I then received an email from Jennifer Wisniewski regarding the Supra. I stated I received an Eprice and am interested in purchasing the car . I told her I am an out of state buyer. I told her to give me the payments based on the Eprice and sales tax based on my residency. She emails back and gives me a quote on a monthly payment. That quote was way off compared to my calculations. Again my calculations were based on the Eprice plus dealer fees plus sales tax. Her quote was over $100 a month more than my quote. Her quote was based on MSRP of the car while my quote was based on the Eprice which was $6500 off the price of the car. I then emailed her my calculations. This was on Tues April 26, 2021. So far as of this writing on April 28, 2021, there has been no response from anyone from the dealership. Talk about poor customer service. I guess they are not interested in selling a customer a car. Why would anyone want to do business with this dealership? I will never recommend this dealership to anyone. The good news is I went to a local dealer to test drive the Supra. I enjoyed the car and I showed them the eprice that I received from Basil Toyota. They matched the price of the car and I bought the car on the spot! I also saved shipping costs as well.
