Ordered the Thai noodles with Thai hot spice, and they absolutely delivered. The spice level was bold and authentic without overwhelming the dish, and the flavors were outstanding from start to finish. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that can make something genuinely spicy while still keeping it balanced and enjoyable. Combined with the welcoming atmosphere and excellent service, it made for a great dining experience.
The basil rolls were fabulous. I tried something new for my main entrée and was pleasantly surprised. The waiter had described it exactly.
Perfectly fine Thai food in Park Circle. Normally I'd give this quality of food 4 or 5 stars, but I felt it was rather expensive for what it is (take out level Thai) with a relatively limited menu than the typical Thai place. Food came out quick, service was friendly and fine (though I ordered the Yum Kung salad and got the Tom Yum Kung soup, which didn't bother me enough to say anything). If this was takeout at takeout price it would rate higher but it's takeout at sit down price with an additional "Park Circle Tax". J.Ja
One of the best Thai you can get around Charleston! This has been a staple for us when we feel the need for some Pad Thai. We came on a Friday night and it was reasonably busy but we were seated quickly. Both the spring rolls and egg rolls are super fresh and tasty. Between my husband and I, one of us always gets the Pad Thai and have tried a few other entrees. The Pad Thai is always solid and super flavorful with both chicken and shrimp! This evening, my husband ordered the Prik King and that was also really nice with a slight kick to it. They also have local beer on draft and a variety of wines to choose from. The service on this night wasn't great which was a little disappointing as we finally got our second drinks after we had finished our meal. But it's a cozy spot for an easy and delicious dinner in the park circle area!
This is my favourite place for Thsi food in North Charleston. They make special Veggie fried rice plus Nam pla, which no one asks...they give automatically without me asking. New owner Vishal and his family are outstanding. Hard working, dedicated
So I know we came during RW so I will not be judging this place based on the pace of service bc it was VERY busy and that would be unfair. Despite the longer wait times, our server was very nice and doing her best to take care of us. My review is solely on the food because the whole point of RW is to bring in more business during a slow month to invite more people to try more places and showcase their food. I appreciate that they had GF options since my hubby is celiac. We got the Tom khá (coconut soup) - I do prefer mine a bit more savory so a dash of fish sauce from the spice caddy made it taste better. 4/5 Chicken Larb- I didn't remember if this dish is usually served on the colder side. But the temp of the chicken was below room temp. Which for me I didn't mind bc I prefer my food not hot lol I know it's weird but perhaps for someone else it wouldn't have been as pleasant. I thought it was packed with flavor and the lettuce cups were refreshing with it. We didn't get that many larger pieces so it kind of turned into like a Larb salad towards the end with the inside pieces. 4/5 Panang curry- I do prefer my curries to be a bit more creamy, but this one was a bit loose. We did squeeze like 3 limes and added more fish sauce to it bc it lacked that depth of flavor we're used to in a curry. That first bite of curry usually tells us if it's right on point or needs a bit of this or that. 3/5 Beef Pad Thai- this was one of the best pad Thais I've eaten. I was pleasantly surprised and couldn't stop eating it. I like the type of noodle they used which was a bit thinner but the texture was perfect as well as the flavor. 5/5 Again, I do want to give this place another chance on a normal day but it was still a decent experience despite any delays. I would want to try some different dishes off their regular menu next time.
Everything at Basil is so packed with flavor and so many different varieties of flavor, you can't just pick one item, you have to over order to get the full experience. And that's exactly what we did. Not a single item was enough, we just wanted more and more.
I always love to support my local Park Circle neighborhood restaurants, but for some reason I often forget that Basil is over there. I used to live in Mt pleasant which also has a Basil and I love the space. Granted it was built brand new and has a very nice aesthetic. The ambiance here makes it feel like the 2nd place Basil. That being said, the food is great and it's conveniently located to me. I recently came in with friends for dinner and had a great meal. A friend and I at the table opted to share a bunch of apps instead of ordering entrees and I would definitely do that again. In total, we shared the steamed dumplings, stuffed shrimp, nam sod, and tom kha soup. The nam sod was a good size portion and great to share. I always love the Tom Kha soup and we love the presentation at Basil, but was disappointed when it came out and wasn't flaming in the middle. We mentioned it an the server said they just stopped it one day so I'm not sure what happened there. I'll definitely be back to Basil since it's in the neighborhood, but I do have some other favorite Thai spot nearby as well.
Cozy Thai restaurant in Park Circle with a variety of menu items from soups to spice-laden entrees. The drink menu is ample with standard wine, beer, liquor. As an appetizer tried the dumplings which had a nice mix of chicken, shrimp, pork, water chesnut, mushroom, and scallion. The dipping sauce on the side was nice lil' dive for the dumpling..found the inside to be well seasoned. For my entree I went with tom kha gai with sliced chicken breast cooked in coconut milk, galanga roots, lime leaves, lemon grass, button mushrooms, cilantro and scallions. Could do with a little bit more lemongrass but that's just me. I liked the presentation of the soup too with a flamed center! Service was quick and they checked in now and then.
Great place for families and friends to eat! Super convenient to take a walk in the park circle plaza afterwards too. You do not need a reservation but during the typical dinner times (6:30pm), the place does get packed. Our waiter forgot to submit our order, and he felt bad, so he got us free Thai tea. The satay came out on time, but we had to wait a good 45 minutes for our main dishes. We were so hungry by this point, I forgot to take a picture of the pad see ew with tofu I got. The Pad See Ew was very delicious and the noodles were not overcooked. The tofu was fried perfectly. There was also a lot of vegetables. A great amount of food was served so I had to ask for a to-go box. The satay was nicely grilled and the peanut sauce was very nutty and sweet. Parking is available all around every street in Park Circle, so don't worry Overall, 8.7 out of 10!
The food quality is always good when we've visited Basil. I wish their hours were different, at least opening earlier so I could go right after work at 4pm. They have a patio with overhead heaters in the covered area, which helped because it was a little chilly outside. Everyone at the table this time ordered Pad Thai, but different customizations. The food was good as always. The drinks were as well.
Seems like the bad reviews of this place are from a year ago, so I can't speak to that. I was here a couple of days ago and dined in on a Friday evening. We got outdoor seating because of our dogs. Seated very fast and waiters checked in on us frequently to make sure our dogs had enough water :) I ordered pad Thai and fried banana ice cream. I have no criticisms about them. Both were amazing. Pad Thai tasted like what it should, and matcha ice cream was good at balancing the sweet banana.
This is for an UberEats experience. Food is delicious. And they were generous with the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. Great portion too. Had leftovers for next day's lunch. Chicken satay tasted like every other Thai places. The peanut sauce is a bit sweeter than I like. But not too terrible. Just a note for the restaurant- Please pack condiments, utensils, and napkins with Togo orders. I was using the chicken satay as a spoon to eat my rice and the bambo stick to pick up shrimp. read more
Our last two trips in have been wonderful. We've had the same server who instantly recognized us and remembered all of my allergies. Service was perfect, food was amazing, and the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted. As someone who is allergic to Gluten and Shellfish, I feel very safe eating here as all of the servers are trained to know what food is safe and the chefs are also very knowledgeable. read more

2 stars for bartender only. I ate the six shrimp in my $19.50 Pad Thai and left the only other ingredients, noodles and sauce. The Chicken Satay was dry and the peanut sauce tasted just like the bottled type at Food Lion. read more

I've only had the shrimp fried rice here but it is delicious! It's definitely my go to meal! I absolutely love the fresh cut veggies! It's nothing like my lazy version of this meal at home. And the shrimp are definitely jumbo sized. Such great service! The bartender is so friendly and makes delicious cocktails. Forgive the container in the photos, I ordered my meal to go but ended up sitting at the bar and enjoying the atmosphere and speaking to some of the other guests! read more

Service and food was great! My parents and I are visiting for the weekend and they are older so it can be hard finding a place that isn't too loud and has options for seating. The staff got us a table outside as requested (no reservation was made) and Caroline was the NICEST server. My mom absolutely loved her and she was very patient w my parents and all of their questions even though I could tell she had a lot of tables to serve. We ordered the dumplings, chicken satay, green curry, fresh rolls, and pad Thai. Enjoyed everything! read more

We had appetizers and everything was amazing. We had a large party of 15 and service was excellent. I also ordered a a bourbon raspberry jam and I highly recommend it! I usually order old fashions and I was not disappointed. It is a little on the dark side in reference to lighting but cute inside. It suited us fine but felt more on the romantic quaint side. read more

I love Basil. This location is the least good (food wise) of the Basil's but it is in the Park Circle area so it suits when hanging out there. The waitstaff is excellent. There are two good wine places in park circle and the wine offering at this** Basil isn't good. Like... ugh not good. So what do they do? Charge a $30 corking fee. THIRTY DOLLARS. That is the price of this Basil's most expensive bottle! ...mind blown... $30??? Basil- Make your selection better or lower your corking fee. What a terrible customer experience... you look cheap. Also, your walls are dirty. Your waitstaff is excellent. read more

This location has been one that I've always wanted to try. I went for a girls night and it was a bit crowded. My seat was in the walking area for the servers so I was constantly moving around to make room. The appetizers were good. I enjoyed the wontons and spring rolls. I got the Pan Tai... I've never had it before. I ate off of it for 2 or 3 meals! Lol it was a lot. Definitely eat this with the the sweet and sour sauce. That added more flavor to this dish... lol I'll go back and try other items for sure. read more

"George likes spicy chicken." Perfect, affordable business lunch spot in Park Circle. Yes, having a special lunch menu is best for everyone. Smaller portions = smaller prices. Hey, they get it. Yes, we love the Basil downtown too, but the Park Circle one is smaller, quieter, and more intimate. Hearing each other talk during a business meeting is HUGE. Server was attentive without being overbearing. Basil is one of those places where you go and say "everything is good" and actually MEAN IT. Seriously, we've had the pad thai (have them punch up the spicy) twenty times and love it every time. Perfect texture, flavor, etc. Other standout dishes include: Dumplings (just the right amount of crunch) Beef fried rice Sweet and sour chicken Again, order the pad thai. It's the best in the area and reminds of our "go to" place in South Florida. After typing, I'm ready for my next spicy pad thai. read more

Date Night! Loving the food and atmosphere. Weekdays are the best not too pack and comfy outdoor sitting. All employees are wearing their masks. We ordered an appetizer (nam sod) some tom yum kung. Two yummy entrees and chicken wings to go. Just coz hahah Got food left for lunch today! Parking gets a little crazy in park circle but if you park a little further park circle is a great walking spot. They used to open lunch time but I think dues to COVID they only do dinners now. read more

Came with a group to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere is sophisticated. I ordered a lemon drop martini and the steamed dumplings as my appetizer. The food arrived relatively quickly. The dumplings are huge and delicious. I ordered pad Thai which was good. It lacked flavor compared to pad Thai I've had at other restaurants. The portion was enormous -- definitely made for sharing! The presentation for both was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a good time and I would return. read more

Don't order take out from here. Took over 2 hrs and was missing one of 2 entrees when it arrived. I called twice to check on the order and the people on the phone could not have been less helpful or more rude. Never will go there or order take out again. read more
This place was almost as good as the downtown location. The staff here is really friendly and attentive. It took awhile to realize they were open since it's difficult to see inside the windows. The food was delicious. I always love the spring rolls and the wonton soup. I did not have as much time to venture any further into the menu but what I got was reminiscent of what they serve downtown. It was quick to get our food considering that we didn't order a lot of food. One thing I'd like to say is that they always kept my iced water flowing. I only drink water with my food so keeping my yeti full was a bonus and very much appreciated. read more

This is one of our favorite spots for Thai food in a fun environment. The patio in the Mt. Pleasant location is amazing when the weather is nice! My favorite is the Pad See-Eu, especially with some hot chili oil to take the spice up a bit! The Basil Rolls are also a great starter, as are the dumplings! And of course, their cocktails are on point as well! read more

A group of friends and I were in the area for dinner one night and after finding out every place in the area had atleast an hour wait we decided to try these guys out. Although they were busy as well, we were greeted immediately and seated. We were able to sit out in the patio which was much more intimate than inside. Little loud and just well, busy lol. The restaurant is moderately spacious with a cool and cozy vibe to it, good ambiance. Upon getting greeted by our waiter I knew the night was about to be fun. One of the best waiters I think I've had! From the moment he started talking to us until we left we were cutting up with him, laughing, and having a good time. Besides that tho he was awesome at service! Making great menu rec's and always there to serve us however we needed. I hate that I can't remember his name tho, he was great! Food wise everything was good! Little pricy menu but I guess if there's no other Thai food around you'd be willing to pay it. I ate a big lunch so I settled for the Tom Yum Kung, it was cold outside so a big bowl of soup sounded like it would hit the spot. And it did! Pretty good Tom Yum and it was served in such a neat way! Never had it brought like that so I was pleased. Overall a great experience at basil! read more
