One of the best Thai you can get around Charleston! This has been a staple for us when we feel the need for some Pad Thai. We came on a Friday night and it was reasonably busy but we were seated quickly. Both the spring rolls and egg rolls are super fresh and tasty. Between my husband and I, one of us always gets the Pad Thai and have tried a few other entrees. The Pad Thai is always solid and super flavorful with both chicken and shrimp! This evening, my husband ordered the Prik King and that was also really nice with a slight kick to it. They also have local beer on draft and a variety of wines to choose from. The service on this night wasn't great which was a little disappointing as we finally got our second drinks after we had finished our meal. So I know we came during RW so I will not be judging this place based on the pace of service bc it was VERY busy and that would be unfair. Despite the longer wait times, our server was very nice and doing her best to take care of us. My review is solely on the food because the whole point of RW is to bring in more business during a slow month to invite more people to try more places and showcase their food. I appreciate that they had GF options since my hubby is celiac. We got the Tom khá (coconut soup) - I do prefer mine a bit more savory so a dash of fish sauce from the spice caddy made it taste better. 4/5 Chicken Larb- I didn't remember if this dish is usually served on the colder side. But the temp of the chicken was below room temp. Which for me I didn't mind bc I prefer my food not hot lol I know it's weird but perhaps for someone else it wouldn't have been as pleasant. I thought it was packed with flavor and the lettuce cups were refreshing with it. We didn't get that many larger pieces so it kind of turned into like a Larb salad towards the end with the inside pieces. 4/5 Panang curry- I do prefer my curries to be a bit more creamy, but this one was a bit loose. We did squeeze like 3 limes and added more fish sauce to it bc it lacked that depth of flavor we're used to in a curry. That first bite of curry usually tells us if it's right on point or needs a bit of this or that. 3/5 Beef Pad Thai- this was one of the best pad Thais I've eaten. I was pleasantly surprised and couldn't stop eating it. I like the type of noodle they used which was a bit thinner but the texture was perfect as well as the flavor. 5/5 Again, I do want to give this place another chance on a normal day but it was still a decent experience despite any delays. I always love to support my local Park Circle neighborhood restaurants, but for some reason I often forget that Basil is over there. I used to live in Mt pleasant which also has a Basil and I love the space. Granted it was built brand new and has a very nice aesthetic. The ambiance here makes it feel like the 2nd place Basil. That being said, the food is great and it's conveniently located to me. I recently came in with friends for dinner and had a great meal. A friend and I at the table opted to share a bunch of apps instead of ordering entrees and I would definitely do that again. In total, we shared the steamed dumplings, stuffed shrimp, nam sod, and tom kha soup. The nam sod was a good size portion and great to share. I always love the Tom Kha soup and we love the presentation at Basil, but was disappointed when it came out and wasn't flaming in the middle. We mentioned it an the server said they just stopped it one day so I'm not sure what happened there. I'll definitely be back to Basil since it's in the neighborhood, but I do have some other favorite Thai spot nearby as well. read more

As an appetizer tried the dumplings which had a nice mix of chicken, shrimp, pork, water chesnut, mushroom, and scallion. The dipping sauce on the side was nice lil' dive for the dumpling..found the inside to be well seasoned. For my entree I went with tom kha gai with sliced chicken breast cooked in coconut milk, galanga roots, lime leaves, lemon grass, button mushrooms, cilantro and scallions. Great place for families and friends to eat! Super convenient to take a walk in the park circle plaza afterwards too. You do not need a reservation but during the typical dinner times (6:30pm), the place does get packed. Our waiter forgot to submit our order, and he felt bad, so he got us free Thai tea. The satay came out on time, but we had to wait a good 45 minutes for our main dishes. We were so hungry by this point, I forgot to take a picture of the pad see ew with tofu I got. The Pad See Ew was very delicious and the noodles were not overcooked. The tofu was fried perfectly. There was also a lot of vegetables. A great amount of food was served so I had to ask for a to-go box. The satay was nicely grilled and the peanut sauce was very nutty and sweet. Some friends and I went to Basil for an early birthday and back to school celebration. We arrived shortly after they opened because things can get busy on a Friday night. We were seated immediately upon entering. We had a nice booth that was roomy for four. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and kept us laughing throughout our dinner. Service and food was great! My parents and I are visiting for the weekend and they are older so it can be hard finding a place that isn't too loud and has options for seating. The staff got us a table outside as requested (no reservation was made) and Caroline was the NICEST server. My mom absolutely loved her and she was very patient w my parents and all of their questions even though I could tell she had a lot of tables to serve. Seems like the bad reviews of this place are from a year ago, so I can't speak to that. I was here a couple of days ago and dined in on a Friday evening. We got outdoor seating because of our dogs. Seated very fast and waiters checked in on us frequently to make sure our dogs had enough water :) I ordered pad Thai and fried banana ice cream. I have no criticisms about them. Both were amazing. I've been a big fan of Basil for years (mostly the Mt. P location) but me and a friend went to the North Charleston location last night and it was massively disappointing. We ordered curry and there were no curry properties to the dish at all - it was as if the cooks dumped water in coconut milk and gave up. it was thin, watery/soupy, flavorless, and gross. We also asked for extra veggies and they just dumped peas in a green curry?!? no thanks. I've had curry at the Mt. P location and it's been full of flavor, thick, and delicious - but last night they charged $20 for a main dish that was utterly terrible. won't be going back anytime soon. read more

My husband and I have eaten at this location many times and food and service were both good. In our most recent visit on 11/15 however it was not as good. The service was probably the main thing that made it worse. The wait staff in general seemed very inexperienced and unprofessional. Some were not dressed in any type of way that you would expect in a restaurant this nice. Hair hanging in face and not tied back, graphic t. Staff were just hanging out by the bar and drinking out of their styrofoam cups and chatting. We ordered the stuffed shrimp which was good, the beef satay was mediocre as were the Thai noodles. Our friend from the Philipines dined with us was dissapointed in her red curry, she said it was very thin and soupy and lacking the flavor that she was hoping for. I love Basil. This location is the least good (food wise) of the Basil's but it is in the Park Circle area so it suits when hanging out there. The waitstaff is excellent. There are two good wine places in park circle and the wine offering at this** Basil isn't good. Like... ugh not good. So what do they do? Charge a $30 corking fee. THIRTY DOLLARS. That is the price of this Basil's most expensive bottle! ...mind blown... $30??? Basil- Make your selection better or lower your corking fee. What a terrible customer experience... you look cheap. This location has been one that I've always wanted to try. I went for a girls night and it was a bit crowded. My seat was in the walking area for the servers so I was constantly moving around to make room. The appetizers were good. I enjoyed the wontons and spring rolls. I got the Pan Tai... "George likes spicy chicken." Perfect, affordable business lunch spot in Park Circle. Yes, having a special lunch menu is best for everyone. Smaller portions = smaller prices. Hey, they get it. Yes, we love the Basil downtown too, but the Park Circle one is smaller, quieter, and more intimate. Hearing each other talk during a business meeting is HUGE. Server was attentive without being overbearing. Basil is one of those places where you go and say "everything is good" and actually MEAN IT. Seriously, we've had the pad thai (have them punch up the spicy) twenty times and love it every time. Perfect texture, flavor, etc. Other standout dishes include: Dumplings (just the right amount of crunch) Beef fried rice Sweet and sour chicken Again, order the pad thai. This is one of our favorite places to go, especially since they have some vegan options and are typically super helpful in explaining the menu. Lately, our go-to dinner has been the Masaman Curry dish, which consists of three main ingredients - potatoes, onion, and cashews. On this occasion (Saturday evening, Dec 19), our rice bowl was brought out first and literally sat on the table for about 25 minutes until the rest of the food arrived. Once the curry arrived and we had started eating, we realized there were no cashews in the meal (we both ordered the same thing). When we brought it up to the server, she apologized and said, "well, the kitchen is really busy tonight." No offer of a replacement, nothing taken off the check. Very very disappointing. When there are only 3 ingredients, leaving out one of them pretty much makes the dish not the dish. This was not at all indicative of the type of service we usually receive at Basil. A group of friends and I were in the area for dinner one night and after finding out every place in the area had atleast an hour wait we decided to try these guys out. Although they were busy as well, we were greeted immediately and seated. We were able to sit out in the patio which was much more intimate than inside. Little loud and just well, busy lol. The restaurant is moderately spacious with a cool and cozy vibe to it, good ambiance. Upon getting greeted by our waiter I knew the night was about to be fun. One of the best waiters I think I've had! From the moment he started talking to us until we left we were cutting up with him, laughing, and having a good time. Besides that tho he was awesome at service! Making great menu rec's and always there to serve us however we needed. I hate that I can't remember his name tho, he was great! Food wise everything was good! Little pricy menu but I guess if there's no other Thai food around you'd be willing to pay it. I ate a big lunch so I settled for the Tom Yum Kung, it was cold outside so a big bowl of soup sounded like it would hit the spot. And it did!
