I was in the area and this place caught my eye because of its cute, full of character exterior. The…read moreBake Shop in Ghent is tucked away and has a wonderful front and side patio/porch to sit on which really made the vibe great. I got in there about 30 minutes before closing so they were pretty cleared out of stuff and they mentioned how they stop serving lunch/sandwhiches 30 minutes before closing so just a heads up on that. The service was great and the two ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful. It appeared that some of their refrigerated items may be bought for sale and not baked in house but all their baked goods in that case were made by them and had a large selection of baked goods from breads, biscotti, bars, tarts, cakes, and more. it also looks like they offer made to order/custom cakes so that is pretty cool! Although not pictured, we tried several macarons and they had a subtle flavor, nothing overpowering which was nice. We also tried their mini tarts in lemon and cherry, as well as their apple crumble in phyllo dough. This was interesting and I have never seen it wrapped in phyllo dough. We also tried the carrot cake which after unpacking it, I do not believe it was made in house as it was part of the other refrigerated goods. Everything was light and pretty tasty. I would give this place a try if you are in the area as it has a lot of charm and variety of goods so I am sure you can find something you will enjoy!

How nice to have a European pastry bakery AND a European restaurant all in one! I had a late…read morebreakfast and was seated immediately in a two-top booth. The staff are very friendly and help create a homey atmosphere. It was hard to choose what to eat, as the menu items all looked amazing, but I went with the pork schnitzel with paprikas sauce, two eggs, home fries, and toast and a side of smoked Slovenian sausage. I wanted to try the crêpes, but was too full. The portions are hearty and very reasonably priced. Everything was delicious. The pork schnitzel was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. The paprikas sauce was a nice accompaniment. The home fries are homemade and come fried on the griddle so the outside is crispy and the inside light and fluffy. The coffee was delicious. Very rich, mellow flavor. I'll definitely be back. Those European pastries beckon!

Do not let the strip mall location deter you. This homestyle restaurant and bakery was a great place to meet. Melissa, our server was very friendly and helpful. We all ordered food that we enjoyed. Only two boxes, but mostly, because we wanted to save room for dessert. I had the Hungarian sampler plate with cabbage and noodles, chicken paprikas, stuffed cabbage and cucumber salad as a side. Every part of it was delicious. My husband ordered the polish sampler with pierogis, Slovenian sausage and cabbage and noodles, he also liked it very much much. We bought a cheese strudel to go that we will have for Mother's Day breakfast with coffee at home. Definitely recommend! Would like to go back if I'm in this part of town again! PS- they only take cash or check. Plan ahead.
