Pro: the food was incredible. I had the lamb tarkari, which was very flavorful. The meat was tender and the vegetables were cooked through but still had texture. Nicely sized portions (filled me without being a ridiculous amount of food) served hot and presented attractively. Con: while the staff were kind and clearly working hard, our food wasn't in front of us until over an hour after we were seated. My stomach was definitely growling by the time we got to eat. I was impressed enough by the food that I may return again next week before I leave town, but I'll be prepared to wait if I do. read more

If I lived near Hanover, I'd go here all the time. We stopped here last summer on our way home to Boston from some Vermont river tubing and were very pleasantly surprised. My partner and I split a bunch of different dishes and pretty much loved them all. She's non-vegan, I'm vegan (the copious vegan items were clearly marked). read more

Authentic Nepalese food in Hanover?? Who knew?! I love this place. We eat here every time we pass through the area. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, our food is well-timed and always delicious. The flavors are often surprising and the gundruk soup is not to be missed! read more

Excellent experience! We wanted delivery at our nearby hotel and it went perfectly. Delivery was 3 minutes earlier than they had indicated via their extremely easy to use on line ordering system. Food was outstanding - hot, fresh and delicious! read more

I love this place. We felt kind and positive energy our whole time there, it was a much appreciated oasis coming in from a chilly wet afternoon. I had the lamb momas for an appetizer. I had the chicken and mushroom chili for the entrée (heat level 5). It was all very authentic, and delicious. Funny thing was after we finished our meal we felt this uplifting feeling of well being. Didn't feel bloated or stuffed, just experienced a very pleasant bhav. We also had a pot of chai tea- which was fantastic! Coming back here as soon as we can. read more

Okay. Had such a different experience from all other reviewers I thought I better dig back in my memory about 2 months and see why I recall feeling no need to go back. 1) deadly slow lunch service; 2) I had a boring lentil dal thing. Nothing interesting about the dish at all. Bread was basically just bread. Not particularly yummy flat bread. Just slightly oily bread. My friend had rubbery bite sized chicken breast thing that also was boring. No interesting flavors; 3) decor is a total mismatch. Still basically just the same Italian Bistro decor they took over; 4) it's pricey for what you get and how amateurish the service, decor and food are. So but all these other reviewers love all these dishes they call out. I'll go back and try one more time. read more

This place was amazing! I am a gluten-free vegan (with loads of food allergies) and it is so hard to find a place where I can have more than ice water when dining out for work. There were tons of options on their menu for me to eat, plus a dessert (which of course I ordered) and fun non-alcoholic drinks to boot! Love, love love. I'm in heaven and definitely bringing friends and family next time I go! Too good for just the work crew to enjoy. read more

Fantastic place to eat. Try the momos, and the tarkari, or anything else on the menu. It will certainly not disappoint. 5/5 stars. A gem to have. read more

I expected much more based on yelp reviews and feel cheated. Not that impressive. Better than average Chinese Indian restaurant and probably ok for rural NH but food is not that great. Seems like Americanized version of northern indian/Nepalese food. Meh. read more

I wish I lived closer! By far one of the best places to eat in this area. The food is fresh, full of flavor ( without being overwhelming) and light. The owners are the nicest people and take the time to explain the various ingredients/ options. You have to try the potato poppers....we had TWO and I would have had them for dessert had I not been so full! The bar is fully stocked and prices are incredibly low...for instance black label Johnnie Walker was $8 and the drink was served in a good sized glass. I can't wait for our return trip to Hanover so I can try another of their NUMEROUS Vegan options! read more

I was introduced to momos by my Nepalese friends when I was in college. The momos here are definitely not as good as the ones I had from my friends and from a Nepalese restaurant in Concord. They are very bland and all I could taste was the floury wrapping. The filling is minimal, and I don't think there was any sauce to go with the momos. Also they messed up my order when I called in for a takeout. Would not recommend and would not return, though if you want to try something Nepalese this is the only Nepalese restaurant in the area so there you go... read more

We lucked out when my husband, friends and I fell into this restaurant on our way home from Mt. Washington. The sign for the restaurant is small, hard to miss. The restaurant is in a small mall, down on the lower level. The atmosphere was nice, cozy but nothing special. The staff was very helpful since none of us had ever had Tibetan food before. We started out with two different kind of Momos aka steamed dumplings. The chicken ones were good, the Paneer & Spinach one were the best. I had the Chicken and Mushroom Tarkari for the main meal. It was warm and spicy and delicious. Someone else in our group had a Chicken Stir Fry Noodle dish and it was also wonderful. The portions on all meals were very large. There was not a entree on our table that was not enjoyed. No one had room for dessert. I am not sure when I'll be back in Hanover, NH neck of the woods but I know I'll find a reason to get back to the Base Camp Cafe. read more

Flavorful and unique dishes. Great service, with very helpful staff that seemed to genuinely care that we enjoyed ourselves. The menu can be a bit confusing if you are not familiar with Nepalese food (how many people in the US are?) The chicken and mushroom curry is full of veggies and enough food for a hungry "dude". read more

I found this place okay and expensive. We had the boar ribs, which came out extremely inconsistent and were the tiniest rib bones I had ever eaten. I'm not sure if the size is typical, I just imagine boars to be about as big as a pig. Anyways every other rib was tender, the rest were tough and chewy. I also ordered their version of a curry (we did two dishes this way) and it was the same sauce for each dish which is disappointing. I expected different variations for each main (there is quite a selection of mains to choose from) to complement the protein or vegetable selected. I did like the healthy serving of vegetables they provided with each dish. I also didn't find their food spicy at all which was disappointing when I ordered spicy. read more

I so totally enjoyed my meal here. Vegetarian. I could dial it up in spiciness to "11." Introduced to some new dishes that I'd never experienced before. Peaceful clean spot. Crunchy crowd. Escaped from the weather outside. read more

I had the boar curry and I enjoyed it because it was different, but I didn't find the heat scale to be as hot as I'd like.

First - everybody is cheerful and helpful. The music is soothing. Beautiful decor. The DSL was sublime. Goat mo-mos delicious. We tried the tukra(?) soup. That was tasty with an unexpected flavor. Great dinner, our first time. Had app buffalo & lamb Momo's (steamed dumplings) yummy. Flatbread had a cilantro dipping sauce, this was great. John our waiter is part of the family ownership. Took us thru the menu. I had wild boar chili. More of a stir fry with fresh veggies & boar & balsamic rice Ordered it spice level 5 plenty spicy for me & I like spice. Loved my entree. Partner had wild boar ribs and enjoyed. Shared a rice pudding. Had a pot of black spiced tea. Liked the flavor. read more

Ordered the same meal as always. Got the wrong fish in our meals and it was so over cooked you could not chew it. Called to speak to staff and was told there is nothing they can do and the best they could was a credit. The "credit" offered was a verbal promised that they would remember me and give me a fee meal. After stating this was not satisfactory and I wanted the money back for my very expensive meal they said nothing they could do. I told them I would drive down to speak with them and at that point they offered me a full refund for my meal. The first person I spoke to lied to me and told me that was just the way they fish was supposed to be. We are disappointed. Won't eat here again. Bad experience. Are this meal every week for over a year. This could have been handled way different. read more

My wife and I stopped in here. Very good. We started off with vegetable momo (dumplings), which came with a spicy tomato curry sauce. That and the chai were probably the highlight of the event. And let me take a moment to tell you more about the chai. Unbelievable. Sick a elevate tea, spiced with milk and slightly sweet. This out of tea had renewed my love for chai. After so many American chai, so think with spice,I'd sworn it off completely. But the Base Camp's was so subtle, so warm and comfortable. Beautiful, really. I had takari (tomato curry) sweet potatoes.... so good! And my wife had Nepali grilled chicken, also very good. Tons of vegetables in both. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner! Ordered the momo's (dumplings) and waitress suggested we have half n half-2 types in one order. Yum! Nice sauce too. For entrees, he had lamb curry (distinctive from it's Indian counterpart) and I had shrimp Tarkara. We picked 7 level of hotness, plenty for us, and we shared. Rice presentation was lovely and a bright side note. We will go again when we are in the area! Total was about $50 b4 tip, quite reasonable for all the good food we got. read more

Good food and quick service. We will be back and would recommend! The Momos we great! My only issue was that there is zero bars cell phone service since it is basically underground. Looove their food and how spicy they could be; in your desire. If you're faint hearted you're missing out with what this place could offer

Take a trip to the lower level of this shopping center for some excellent Nepalese food. We went there for lunch and the service and food were great. I got the #7 level of hotness on my chicken dish and boy was it hot, hot, HOT. Though, I'm not sure on the authenticity of bell peppers and jalapenos in that part of the world but it still was delicious. I will come back. read more

I'm not sure where else you can get food like this and what Hanover did to deserve this. But you should try it. The wild boar ribs were tender and really flavorful--I can't say I've ever had anything like them--with a generous portion of stir-fried vegetables (onions, peppers, broccoli, carrots). I had spicy level 5 and that was fine for me but I could see people going much hotter. The saag paneer Mo (dumplings) were also really nice, maybe just a tad doughy for me, but maybe that's just me. Another reviewer complained about the pricing, but there are a range of dishes at a range of prices. Portions are generous, so you could easily split a larger dish. It's hidden downstairs off Lebanon St., but well worth finding. Nice, comfortable place, seemed like a good place for a date. Some people were dressed up, some more casual. read more

My husband and I were visiting Hanover and stopped at Base Camp for lunch before leaving town. It was delicious! We shared a pot of spiced tea, a sweet potato appetizer, my husband had Takari and I had grilled basil and thyme lamb. Our expectations were exceeded! The meat was cooked to perfection, the curry was on point. My only regret was not having gone to Base Camp earlier in the trip so we could eat there multiple times and try multiple plates- yes, we loved it that much. More positives: relaxing music, quiet and respectful atmosphere (we had a sleeping baby with us), above average service -- overall amazing experience. read more

Easily my favorite restaurant in Hanover. This is the only place I've had Nepalese food and I'm hooked. The food here is great. The momos are these wonderful little dumplings of deliciousness. The tarkari's (chicken and mushroom is my favorite) are fantastic. They also provide a good amount of spice (I usually go with spice level 6), which is great for a place that's freezing cold for most of the year. The wait staff are casual and very friendly. read more

Delicious food. Great drinks- had the Muddy Base Camp and have been trying to recreate it at home ever since. Completely accurate spice rating /requests- I asked for a 6 and my friend asked for a 3 both were perfect for us. One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. My boyfriend and I make a point of going at least once a month. The chai, momos and chilis are absolutely to die for. A fantastic ambiance and legitimately home-cooked food makes this place a must-eat. Do not miss out. read more

We went in after 8 on a Friday night and were given excellent service. We like Indian food, but had no idea what to order from the menu, as we were not familiar with Nepalese or Himalayan food. The server was extremely helpful explaining each item and we were very happy with our selections. The Sunny Base Camp cocktail was delicious, and our favorite was the special chicken Nepali style with spinach paneer. The spice level can be customized from 1-10, and we both chose 6. First of all, if you have never eaten Nepalese/Himalayan food, please take the time to read this and head directly to Base Camp! We were in Lebanon on an errand, and using Yelp reviews decided on Base Camp at around 3pm. It was a little hard to find, and is situated near some more familiar cuisine, but I'm so glad we stayed the course! Even at 3 the food was hot and fresh, and came out quickly! We told our server right off that we were newbies, and she took the time to explain the menu and types of dishes to us. Everything looked amazing! Based on other yelp reviews we started with the vegetable Momo's, and asked for the dipping sauce at a 5. It would have been too much for me in a full dish, but was perfect as a dip. The momo's were absolutely heavenly. I cannot recommend them enough. With guidance on lunch/dinner my husband ordered the sweet potato tarkari at a 5 and I ordered the grilled chicken Nepali stuffed with spinach and paneer, mild. Both came fairly quickly, piping hot and fresh. The veggies that came with them were fresh and still slightly crisp- cooked perfectly. Having never had Nepalese, I can describe it as a blend of Indian and the best Thanksgiving dinner you have ever had. Seriously. The spices blend beautifully without ever being overpowering, and the restaurant works hard at making the heat level just right for their guests. We rounded out our meal with a pot of chai, which they make in-house. The spices are more delicate than one normally finds in local coffee shops, and it is a perfect complement to the flavors in the meal. I cannot recommend Basecamp enough. From the service to the fresh and flavorful food, it was one of the best dining experiences I have had in recent history! read more

Pretty good place. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only bc I wasn't blown away. Definitely recommend.

The momos are fantastic! We often come in just for a meal of momos and beer! We also enjoyed the spicy chicken appetizer. We were not quite as impressed with the main curry dishes, but we make a lot of great curries at home. read more
