Stopped in here to get a fresh salad to go. Upon arrival, there was a menu on the wall that had a number of pre-determined salad ingredients. Based on the menu on the wall, we were going to order the strawberry chicken salad to go. Upon going to order, we were told that we had to fill out a paper specifying what ingredients should go into the salad. This was a little confusing as this was a menu item so the employee should know what you need to put into the salad, AnyWho. Once we were able to select our salad, the base the ingredients and choice of dressing. Our salad was made within 10 minutes. Overall, it was really good and the ingredients were fresh. I will say that the onions needed to be chopped up a little bit as they were way too big to be red onions and on a salad. We also appreciated the poppyseed dressing which was really fresh and complimented the spring greens on the salad. Overall, if you're looking for a fresh ingredient meal, this is a good place. We also noticed that they make smoothies and bowls and so I would give this a try out if you're looking for healthier options to dine. read more

I can only imagine that this place is still in business only because Happy Poochie has terrible hours. I have never had any bad salads from there or from Caffe Tosi. I ordered a salad and quite a bit of the lettuce was wet and rotting, very mealy avocado, black hair on one of the croutons. And the supposed house ranch tastes like a bad shelf-stable ranch. I have never had a house dressing that does not taste fresh. $20 plus tip for this, never again. The chicken tastes like that packaged cooked chicken for salads from the grocery store. There was nothing good about this salad. They should be ashamed of selling this to people. I also had a bad online experience before not too long ago, and had no plans of even trying this place after that, but I was in the mood for a salad and thought maybe it would be a better experience this time. Experience from a few months ago... I attempted ordering from here and it did not go well. Instead of being reliable and staying present during their scheduled business hours, they decided to close early for a catering job. They did not update the Facebook page or the voicemail, and did not turn off online ordering. I show up for a curbside order. No answer when calling. I get out and see that they are closed and there is a sign on the door, so now I have to figure out something else for dinner. The owner keeps saying they did not receive the order. That is not my problem. You choose this third-party site to take your orders and collect your money. The order was placed directly on their website, but they use Square. A receipt with the order was emailed to me. The money was literally taken out of my account, so I do not understand what they are trying to argue. Square collects money for your orders, and then they give you the money. You are responsible for all of this. If you cannot handle online ordering properly, then do not use it. This is not difficult to understand. Instead of asking me to show proof of the online order and refunding me in cash, I was told I had to dispute this with my bank, which I did. Amazing spot! Would give it 6* if I could. The staff are over-the-top friendly, helpful and nice. They make you feel like you're at home. They even let us come in a few minutes early before they opened. My wife and I split a champion bowl and we loved the customization options. We got açai and spirulina as the base, with granola, strawberries, blueberry, coconut flakes, almond butter, and cacao nibs as toppings, and it was one of the best bowls we've ever had. Sad we don't live close, because we would be here all the time! In addition to acai bowls, they offer smoothies, lemonades, and sandwiches (they only offer sandwiches on days less than 80° because the oven makes the space too hot). They have a little bit of seating there, and they also have a great view at "the lookout" only four minutes away. Would highly recommend! read more

This kind of shop was desperately needed in the Saint Joseph area, and it's certainly filled with the kind of charm you'd expect at such a small location. You basically see the entire staff and workspace as soon as you walk in -- I doubt there's much more of a "back area" given the square footage. The drinks and food are solid -- I really enjoyed my smoothie, and they've got varied bowl options. Sadly they don't do sandwhiches in the summer. Good place, but the prices are up there. Regardless of how good it was, it's always tough to pay $13 for a smoothie. read more

Great people, but how they present their smoothies and smoothie bowls feels a little misleading. Both of these products have sorbet as their base. When I asked if there was added sugar in the base, they said no that it was just fruit. The base was not freshly blended either as we observed. After purchasing and tasting at home, I realized the base was clearly packed with sugar. I'm not sure if the staff was just unaware of the added sugar, but it seems pretty misleading to market it as a "smoothie bowl" accordingly. Especially for $14. I'm wishing them success but I hope they consider changing their product wording to include sorbet instead of "smoothie." read more

We stumbled across Base Bowls while strolling around the neighborhood. Having 3 kids under 10 I always struggle to find healthy choices while on vacation. In the past had to give in to a local hot dog stand. But thanks to Base Bowls we could had a healthy option of good sandwiches, veggies and fruits. The bowls here are incredible. I first fell in love with açai bowls while visiting Hawaii and I've had a hard time finding anything near that quality back on the mainland, and especially in Michigan. They are fresh, delicious, good size servings and worth every penny! Even when I try something different from my go to açaí, like the Kokonut base or dragonfruit, or even a smoothie/milkshake, I'm never disappointed with what I get from here! read more

SO FREAKING GOOD. Best place to get a salad in town. The price is a little steep but it is more than worth it, you would pay the same at Panera and get half the size. First time coming here. Upon walking in staff was very friendly and inviting. Felt as though you knew the staff so thumbs up to them in that regard. Bowls and smoothies looked great. My wife ordered a bowl and sandwich. I also ordered the brisket sandwich and soup. Total was over $65 for two people. Minimum tip on display was 18%. (I know you can do a custom tip, I just thought that was wild) My honest complaint is the cleanliness of the place-- which was wayyy below standard-- lack of service and quality of food in comparison to price. I highly doubt the owners have any previous experience running a restaurant or kitchen. It seems more like a passion project and a niche market grab with little understanding of health code standards and processes found in a fast, clean, quality kitchen setting. We were the only two people in there aside from one other gentleman waiting on a sandwich. For 4 staff members being on shift waiting 30 min for a to-go order was a little frustrating. Upon arriving home, I could see my brisket sandwich was clearly 2-3-day old brisket just reheated on non-toasted sour dough bread with a clearly melted Kraft single cheese and a little raw green pepper and red onion. I took three bites and threw it out. That sandwich was over $15. My soup was super bland and heated up on a tray in a turbo chef (Which i saw). That "cup" of soup was $6. My wife's chicken salad sandwich was so sweet and clearly store bought, (or out of a can) no disrespect but pricing again. She couldn't even eat it which was also a letdown. I spent $65 on food to come home and throw it out. Call me wasteful, but everything on that menu in regard to sandwiches, etc. should be cut in half when it comes to pricing to reflect the quality. I think this place would be amazing if they just stuck to smoothies, bowls, adjusted pricing and quality control because their profit margin has got to be insane. Don't venture into savory food if you don't have the facility and experience to maintain your own pricing standards. Great ingredients and wonderful concept. If your bowl isn't good...well...it's probably your fault haha. The only thing I would like to see is a option to order online rather than the printed menu things - but I can see why they do it that way. Overall pretty good. Everything was very fresh. Awesome selection of different ingredients. Friendly staff. Would have given 5 stars but was a little disappointed in the portion size. For the price wish i would have gotten a little more. Will be back though. read more
